I guess there's been some paranoia regarding the former source being shut down due to leaks. Therefore, we're not putting the direct links out in the open, but you can still view the enhanced backdoor.

Yeah, Al's wrong. I checked the backdoor schedule and saw it was normal.

HELLSING-WEEN 2018 (A Retrospective)
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
You know, I think I'm just jaded. Your downright religious appreciation for Hellsing is somehow more annoying to me than anyone else's liking of a certain show, but I should stop with that. And on a similar note, using your favorite show for a tangent about the block, instead of stating it as "Toonami used to air like this, but now it's longer and starts earlier." That seems like the making of an insufferable genius... except when me or Poke says something like that. Then it's acceptable. But hey, I'm not meaning to hurt anyone. You can just give this post the "laughing" reaction and get back to whatever you're doing. Most of the problems are on me. -
More shows DeMarco wanted to get but couldn't due to reasons
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
That show apparently had a lot of raunchy humor, comedic gore, and even intense swearing. Plus, the final episode was intentionally made to be offensive to the point where it couldn't be aired on TV. Why the hell DeMarco thought he could air that in an afternoon cartoon block, I have no idea. -

I'm not totally convinced that Toonami should air another Gundam show. Both Unicorn and IBO were shrugged off by the Toonami audience; the former due to being obtuse and requiring knowledge of other Gundam shows to fully appreciate, and the latter because... well, it wasn't that good. And what is available that DeMarco might want to air? Thunderbolt, maybe? They would probably choose a full-length show over that one. There's also Reconguista in G, although that one seems to be polarizing, thanks to a nigh-incomprehensible plot. At this point, the only Gundam show I would accept them airing is G, and only because that one has a different tone than the others I think I'd like better. But what I really want Toonami to do is just air any original show that has no connections to anything they've aired before, because the block is in desperate need of that.

HELLSING-WEEN 2018 (A Retrospective)
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
This thread would be more interesting if it was about a rewatch of the show. I hate it when we do nothing but pointlessly rattle off facts. -
Do we really need to mention that again? In conclusion... who cares if there's an AnimeGate.

Episode 218 airs this weekend, and there are exactly 500 Shippudens in total. You can do basic math, but if you'd rather I get to the point, we have... 282 left. With holiday weekends factored in, there's about six years to go.

The Worst Thing About the New Season of SAO
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Good. That gives all the righteous people more time to blithely ignore it. You know, while I completely understand the appeal of Klein, I don't think a show featuring him would be much more exciting than SAO. He's supposed to be your everyman who got trapped inside the game and was the only sane person while people were dying... but that's largely all he is. It comes down to being as bland and inoffensive of a character as possible, and I don't think that would translate to an exciting story. -
Holy shit. So they finally went out and negotiated for a Kai rerun, eh? And they took the fans' advice (but not mine) and moved Shippuden early. Personally, I'd rather have them just get that show over with, move it to weekdays, and premiere as many episodes as it fiscally makes sense to every week. Anything to make it go by faster, although you know they're doing this just so they can keep pimping one of the long-runners. And then you have Samurai Jack making a rather pointless return at the ass-end of the block. We could get reruns of the new FLCL seasons after it finishes, although I think they'd be better off in a slightly earlier slot. Either way, this is smiles all around. But to get to the biggest point I want to make... I think the block is starting too early now. Anything earlier than 11 p.m. was already pushing it, and I was hoping 10:00 would be the limit. While it's nice to have even more anime than ever before airing on Saturdays, I'd much rather be out and about and doing stuff with friends and/or family in the evening hours, and then get back by some point before midnight so I don't miss much. At this point, I'll probably DVR My Hero Academia and watch it at 11 or so (if at all) before joining the block live. At least this will do a tiny bit to prevent people from saying the ratings suck and Toonami will be cancelled soon.
-
Wow! My Hero Academia has largely closed the gap to DB Super. So much for it being "the forgotten show". Of course, if the ratings actually mattered, I'd be even more pumped.

Predict the rest of 2018's holiday marathons
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Having not had the usual Independence Day marathon this year makes me think they'll push for Halloween's to stay, even if I think that one shouldn't exist at all. Now, the list: Halloween: Black Clover Thanksgiving: Samurai Jack (S5) Christmas week: Attack on Titan New Year's week: Both FLCL sequels -
flcl3 FLCL Alternative Episode 1 Discussion
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I don't necessarily agree, although I will admit that the first episode didn't do much for me. I think the best parts were getting to hear Marieve Herington in a dub again, as well as a few of the trippy-like animation of a few moments. On the other hand, I was a little frazzled for all the Toonami shows I watched due due to not having ideal viewing conditions, but that's a meaningless story. -
I've heard the manga is more than a hundred chapters ahead of the anime, so they shouldn't/might not ever need to rely on filler. That must be why they immediately barged ahead with a new season.

flcl3 FLCL Alternative Episode 1 Discussion
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Eh, I'm not sure. There are apparently a lot of people who went to the Alternative screenings and hated it, although many of them aren't as vicious with their criticism. And I'm sure there are people who went and liked it, with some thinking it was better than Progressive. The thing is, you're going to get differing opinions like that all the time. On the plus side, Poke, you might end up liking it even more out of spite just because other people hate it so much. That must be the plan in this day and age. -
flcl3 FLCL Alternative Episode 1 Discussion
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Uh... fuck. You'll see excerpted complaints threaded to the tweet. Basically, about the only things people liked from the screening were the new music from the pillows and a scene involving basketball. I wouldn't take this as a guarantee that the new season will be bad, if not worse than Progressive, but this isn't a good sign. -
For what it's worth, I'm really looking forward to the rest of DiU. Even despite the smaller scope of this part, the bar has definitely been raised regarding creative and/or epic fights, at least with the Jotaro and Josuke vs. Angelo encounter from two weeks ago. It managed to make quite a few epic moments out of the typical water-emitting utilities in a house. So what crazy shit did Araki manage to come up with next? It boggles the mind to wonder.

If you thought Black Clover would end at episode 51...
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Was there any good reason to post the entire top 50? But yeah, Black Clover is popular now. For better or worse, the campaign to make this show a genuine success has genuinely succeeded, and now the haters have to live with it. -
Western funded anime and how it will affect Toonami going forward
Blatch replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The way I see it, Toonami will have to keep making originals if they want to stay afloat. This is a side effect of what the industry has become, as fewer anime are available to air on TV compared to ten years ago. They apparently have plans for stuff for about the next three years (mid-2021), and I'm sure they consist mostly of co-productions. It's just that we haven't heard about anything on the level of Samurai Jack S5 and the FLCL sequels since those were announced, which was a long time ago, and Alternative will be over and done with pretty soon. We can complain that Jason and friends aren't doing a good enough job of airing new anime, but that regards licensed shows they have to wrangle the TV rights for. I have no reason to be pessimistic about original content. -
Now that is a show I love seeing brought up again. People loved it upon release and thought it was wholesome as fuck... but, as with seemingly everything nowadays, it was forgotten in the deluge of new shows coming out, as well as because of the anime community's desire to accentuate the negative. Kemono Friends gets a new season... and another controversy.
Blatch replied to Blatch's topic in Anime & Manga
Well, they forced the seiyuus for the anime apologize for the creative team getting fired, and that was the end of it for a lot of people. The only reason why Kadokawa is going through with this is because, as I've alluded to, the show has become a genuine juggernaut over in Japan. It's caused tons of otaku to start getting out of the house and visiting zoos, which local establishments then milked for all that was worth. Remember the story of Grape-kun? And then you have that they made idol groups out of the show, including PPP, and those have become pretty popular. While I wouldn't be opposed to supporting this, the fact that I started watching the anime because it had a wholesome story that was undermined by the capitalistic goals of the rights holder. At this point, I'm waiting for any headlining seiyuu to voice a Cinderella Girls character (except Aya Uchida, obviously) so I can give them support that way. It's all very unfortunate and bad. The anime is not a direct adaption of the manga. The latter is more in line with the original mobile game, as it began while that was still in service. You can probably check it out if you watch the show and like it enough, but do be aware of what you're getting into. Look up the "Welcome to Japari Park" shorts on Nyaa to see what I'm talking about. And then you can stare at the footage in unbridled existential horror!
