  1. And here's a source for that. I actually can't come to a conclusion that [as] is losing the show, if only because of what happened with Futurama where Comedy Central was still able to air it with Syfy. We'll probably know for sure within the next few weeks.
  2. Just because you said that, I bet the ratings are gonna go even lower when AoT S3 premieres. As in, Dragon Ball Super fails to get 700K on a weekly basis.
  3. Okay, why in the fuck is Alchemist amused at every other reply on this page?
  4. Well, would you look at what Jason just posted... there's even an interesting bit about One Piece.
  5. Turner has outright said they don't trust the Nielsen ratings anymore. It took me a while, but after seeing Toonami get lower and lower and yet the block was apparently still doing well enough to expand, with comments from DeMarco to compliment that, I've all but stopped trying to look for anything meaningful in the raw numbers. Looking at it from another angle, this idea seeks to spread division within the Toonami fandom, and it overrides a lot of meaningful discussion about the shows themselves. To hell with all that.
  6. With ratings this bad, why even bother discussing them?
  7. "Vehement hatred"? I thought that mentality only existed on the ASMB. Nowadays, if you visit Twitter, you're more likely to hear someone yelling about the new She-Ra cartoon. Really weird live-action shows are pretty far back on the list of priorities.
  8. For some reason, I have a gut feeling that Madoka Magica is going to replace the Space Dandy rerun. Toonami could presumably manage that, even with two dub premieres ready to air the following week.
  9. Well, the disambiguation between the first series and Z is not present in the manga. Things keep trucking along after the King Piccolo arc as if it's just business, even despite the timeskip. That's another sticking point in DB fandom... some people prefer that you read the manga, because the pacing is even better than Kai. You also don't have to worry about off-model animation.
  10. I've said before that the easiest way to accommodate AoT would be to just expand the block, and I still think they're going to do that. Why bother with shifting most of schedule just so FLCL Progressive can finish early? Also, it'd be awful if Pop Team Epic gets moved down the week it features Hellshake Yano. FLCL Progressive's rerun would end with a gap in the schedule, but to hell with that. Just play the premiere a third time. Or... heck, they could re-air the subbed version of Alternative's premiere from April Fools' Day.
  11. No time has been announced for it, because Toonami is really sadistic and has to make every schedule change twice as complicated as it needs to be. Whatever happened to Occam's razor? But still, get hyped. Also, do you like that most of my thread titles are done as complete sentences? I think it makes them feel more casual.
  12. I take it you mean the ones who think DBZ is the best and most intense action show ever made? There's actually a contingent of fans who hate that idea, and love Dragon Ball because of the comedy. And note the lack of Z in that sentence, because they do love the original show and lament how it gets forgotten. Hell, some of them don't even like the idea of splitting the two anime up.
  13. So, Nickelodeon Magazine? Except the Dragon Ball franchise has almost always been a mix of action and comedy. Saying otherwise will get you massacred by the hardcore fans. For what it's worth, a lot of them don't like what the Toonami treatment has done to their franchise.
  14. Well, I haven't done quick thoughts in a while... My Hero Academia: IMO, Mineta isn't that bad, although I have a feeling that people only hate him so much because he's a male pervert. Either way, him and the fight he was in were the highlights of this episode, as the action was otherwise unevenly paced. Pop Team Epic: The segment where the show makes fun of itself having "too many lame parodies" is actually right on the mark for me. The Space Cat Company segments don't offer much other than banal jokes about all the different anime genres... except the show sometimes manages to screw up that up, too. Last week's "Vanver" segment is a good example; the title made it sound like it was going to be an MMO anime/isekai parody, but with how things were set up, Popuko and Pipimi could've been telling the characters of any show to shut up and do some improv. This basically means my biggest complaint about the show is that it isn't surreal enough, which is the last thing I would've expected. About the TV-MA straight, my money's on all the middle fingers earning the rating, even if they were censored. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: If there's one thing that seemingly unites people in these troubling times, it's that the voice acting in these last few episodes has been phenomenal. Doug Erholtz has done a lot of heavy lifting in this series, considering that some parts of the story are almost uniformly Polnareff-focused, but man, he's done a great job handling the emotional moments surrounding Avdol and Iggy's deaths. Last week's cliffhanger was really good, too. I felt kind of emotional even though I was spoiled in him surviving to the next episode. Hunter × Hunter: Is becoming quite the slog. Man, even if it's really good, how can someone watch over one hundred episodes of one show on a frequent basis and not eventually think of it as a slog? This is mirroring my thoughts with One Piece, where I had largely given up on it by midway through Thriller Bark on the Toonami run.
  15. To be fair, Samurai Jack S5 reran at the top of the block, and that got pulled after three episodes. Length presumably doesn't count as an excuse. I'm not too concerned about the Progressive rerun bombing, because Toonami has been doing so well lately despite much lower ratings overall. Even if it does cause the numbers to take yet another hit, I assume they'd have lowered expectations anyway, and could absorb the blow. The worst case scenario I see happening, if such a thing is even possible, is that they temporarily remove the slot, shift DB Super and MHA down for the last few weeks, and then re-expand the block to 10:30 when Alternative arrives. Because of this, there's no logical reason for them to move the rerun down.
  16. The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Theater S2 #2 Girls' Last Tour #8 Recovery of an MMO Junkie #2 (rewatch)
  17. IMO, since the first episode began by finishing up D'Arby the Younger's plot, calling this one Part 2.5 would be more accurate.
  18. It's a little of both. Now, I'm not questioning the logic in rerunning this. A lot of people (me included) were actually expecting that to happen. On the other hand, this might be the first rerun near the top of the block that manages to air every episode.
  19. Weren't Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' assumed to be canon when they premiered? Since this movie is a continuation of Super, I would think the same way... at least until the (inevitable) next Dragon Ball show comes out and spends its first cour recapping it.
  20. That's not the reason. You know, I actually intentionally abstained from posting here because I didn't want the discussion to spiral out of control and start a fight. At least you've gone a while without up and doing it now, but you still could.
  21. That description for WorldEnd from the article doesn't sell how weird it is. The world the show takes place in consists almost entirely of anthropomorphic characters with no human features. One of a few exceptions is a troll maid that supposedly eats people. There's also a dog woman who I guess is some kind of cook, and she has a sentient smiley face as a co-worker. And in half of one episode, they break from the main story and talk about movies made by lizards. It's hilariously surreal, and this is before you get to the dramatic parts of the show, which is more of a "cute girls violently murder things and eventually get killed themselves" deal. I wouldn't call it underrated, but for a light novel adaption, it wasn't too bad.
  22. My opinion on Kill la Kill is that the first half is pretty good, as I liked all the outrageous, schlocky fun it had... but then the writers made things more serious, and tried to cram in as many plot twists as they possibly could (most of which were pretty trite), which the show suffered for. It was still enjoyable up through the last few episodes, but that definitely put a hamper on things. As for the other Trigger shows, When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace is literally only remembered for the scene where Saori Hayami's character goes on a five-minute breaking rant at someone, which has some of the most insane overacting in any anime made in the past ten years. Basically, Trigger got upstaged by someone else, which is ironic.
  23. It was more from a standpoint of Hidomi being the embodiment of teenage nihilism. I wondered if her parents and/or other adults in the FLCL world were going to be revealed as responsible for it, and the show would make the teenagers fight back to create a more just world. Basically, insert any anti-capitalism metaphor you want in there. I'm not as caring about same-sex relationships, but it seems like FLCL Alternative will at least offer a chance of that happening. There was a dude wearing a skirt, which seemed to indicate at least a more positive spin on subverting gender norms. But then the show revealed Mori to be a general dork and a loser who couldn't get a date, so he had to pay someone to act as his rental girlfriend. Also, Haruko announced she was leaving her job as a teacher (after becoming "pregnant") so she could become a housewife and settle for mediocrity, which is the wrong message to get out of that. Heh... this must be what we get for being one of the few developed countries in the whole world to not offer paid parental leave. But, then again, the original series had lots of sexual advances that would get #MeToo'd out of existence today, plus one character wearing a Nazi uniform. It's probably foolish to expect any thoughts more constructive than those.
