2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Insipid replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
Union participation has gone done from over 35 percent of Americans in the 1970s to less than 10 percent today. We are in a gilded age, with rich people making more money than ever before. Social issues and where they stand on the spectrum change over time. Who exactly was it that started making trans using the "wron bathroom' back in 2014 conveniently around the time Caitlynn Jenner came out? It's ok, plenty of dumb people will still fall for your shit. -

Utah, a state full of white Mormons, is the only state that shifted slightly to the left. Every other state shifted more to the right. Oh, the irony. -

I'd say 40ish percent do. There is a sizeable amount of Americans who feel nothing will change for them regardless of who is president, and that proportion probably has increased after this election. -

Again, celebrities need to permanently shut the fuck up with their shit takes. White people moved more to Harris while non white people moved more to Trump. -

Dumb populism is exactly how Trump got elected. It works. Many of these celebrities talk about social issues, but almost all of them can never relate to working class struggles. Promoting a personal rags to riches story just makes a stronger case for Republicans, which is where these celebrities belong anyway. Many of them hate to pay their taxes. -
I don't think RFK is gonna last that long.

I'm glad people are fed up with celebrity endorsements. Oprah and Gayle can go eat each other out in contempt for Trump supporters in the French Riviera on a yacht, for all anyone should care. -

I'm a little more patient, but not that hopeful overall. -

Another thing interesting is the 180 degree change in attitude my Gen Z brother has about January 6. Just four years. The right wing propaganda is strong. -
His last name gives away that he is Jewish. Miller is a generic onee.
-
I didn't know he was Jewish. What a fucking weirdo.

lol, purifying. Oh yeah, that's some strong Aryan genes right here.

He could be in a coma and they'd still let him be president. Nobody wants to dare defy their cult leader and face the ire of his followers. -
If that's what you want to do, go for it. Traveling the world is fun and enlightening.

I think I finally get why "passport bros" has become such a prominent thing, especially to Gen Z. These dumbasses don't realize the type of Asian women who are willing to leave their countries and families behind and settle in another are almost never the submissive traditional wife type. Western women are too woke for them though. Their leader Trump himself is a passport bro: all his wives come from Eastern Europe. Oh, I really fucking hate this. -
I get the feeling you'd be living in an expat bubble in another country . . . but if that's what you want, it's not exactly a bad thing, depending on your worldviews. In fact, I bet most Americans wanting to leave after the election probably just want to live the expat lifestyle and not properly assimilate into another society with different values.

Why exactly do you want to immigrate then? This "go fuck yourselves, I got mine" attitude is very stereotypically American, and an attitude foreigners tend to hate about America. You specifically will most likely be fine under Trump anyway.

Well a lot of these people didn't feel their wealth increased under Biden, even though the inflation was a global phenomenon. They are gonna suffer, and many are gonna double down on their horribleness despite everything. I am not looking forward to any of this.

If you really wanna see something interesting, look at the millennial and genz subreddits and how they differ on the topic of the election. -

Are you sure about that? College enrollment is going down. Republicans are in control and they love to gut education. Test scores in reading and math scores have declined across the country. They give almost everyone a high school diploma these days regardless of how well they did. People can rightfully shit on JK Rowling for many reasons, but I feel she did help many millennials actually appreciate the written word. -

It's my Gen Z brother saying this, who I agree is an idiot, but I feel listening to him gives a valuable insight into his generation. He does listen to those horrible manosphere podcasts. Meanwhile, my sister and I are millennials and voted for Harris. The most troubling thing my brother said is that the media controls the objective truth. I guess we may be heading into an idiocracy after all. Harris did win the college educated vote by a significant margin. -

One thing that's really pissing me off is Republicans complaining Kamala didn't concede defeat early enough when Trump never officially accepted the results of the 2020 election. I also am hearing that Democrats' reaction to Hillary losing is the reason January 6 happened. Some are even going so far as to saying Democrats are gonna have our own January 6. I swear, some people's worldviews always need adversaries to work, regardless of how much it matches reality. The energy just is not the same as a Trump defeat woukd be. The vast majority of us have accepted we lost.
