Yeah I agree with this. A lot of what they talk about in the movie makes more sense when you at least know of Endless Eight, especially Nagato's plight during it.

So Toonami is finally back to 6 hours, huh? Truth be told, after the disastrous 2014 I didn't think we would see Toonami be this long again. And Super is knocked from the front for MHA? While I love that Super is no longer the top show, only time will tell if MHA will be up to it. How have the ratings for MHA been? I haven't been able to watch Toonami regularly since the beginning of June so I'm kinda behind on this stuff.

Unsurprisingly, Toonami will air Attack on Titan S3.

I'm actually in the same boat as you here. I loved the first two seasons of JoJo. Stardust Crusaders I didn't like at the start, but it grew on me, and I'm still watching it happily. But I really don't think we need any more JoJo after this. Season 3 seems to be a good endpoint for the series, and to be completely honest I really don't have any desire to see Season 4 and beyond. -

From SDCC: Boruto coming in September
CaptainStarwind replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
...So I spend close to two weeks moving into an apartment, almost entirely shut out from the internet, and THIS is the Toonami news I return to? I may actually skip this show. I tend not to skip shows on Toonami, but I truly have no desire to watch Boruto. Didn't Toonami say they were going to mix it up? That they were going to get anime from genres other than action? Apart from Pop Team Epic, exactly HOW are they doing that, I ask? -

Cowboy Bebop: I've never actually sat down and watched it straight through. I HAVE seen all the episodes, but I've seen them all out of order over a period of 2 years or so. I really should do a full watch through of this. But, as it stands, I finished watching the "series" in 2012. Trigun: 2013 FLCL: 2013 Evangelion: 2013 Wolfs Rain: I've never actually watched this InuYasha: 2014 Ghost in Shell:2014 Full Metal Alchemist: 2015 for FMA 2003 (when the new blu-rays came out), 2013 for FMAB -
So, Episode 23... yeah. I might as well take this chance to comment on some of the things that bugged me in Episode 22 as well, since I never did before. Both Kokoro and Mitsuru, as well as their "romance", has been handled rather terribly over the course of the show, and these last two episodes are no exception to that. Episode 22 sees Kokoro confirmed as pregnant. I knew this scene was going to happen, and I expected that they would handle it thusly: new Nana tells Kokoro she's pregnant, then tells her she'll be getting an abortion, so as not to lose her viability as a pilot. Kokoro immediately refuses, having gained some motherly instinct, and the rest of the kids back her up. To my utter surprise, they handled that scene rather well. Considering Kokoro doesn't even remember Mitsuru himself, let alone having sex with him, it makes complete sense that she would be shocked, confused, and HORRIFIED that she is pregnant, and that's how the scene portrays her. New Nana isn't even really vilified, which, given how she was treated a few minutes earlier in the episode, I completely expected. Unfortunately, Kokoro and Mitsuru's interactions in Episode 23 ruin pretty much all of that. See, I had a theory about Kokoro and Mitsuru from the moment that they got their memories wiped. My theory is that their memories weren't "wiped" per se, but that they were moreso "locked", or that they were given forcible amnesia. I base this theory on the fact that Hiro had his memories wiped, and seem to have gained them back around mid-series (admittedly, he could have just been viewing 02's memories at that point, but the show was never totally clear on that, so I stand by my point). I figured my theory was given some credence after Episode 20 or 21 (I forget which, exactly) when Kokoro and Mitsuru's FranXXX goes down. The way that series of events happens, I figured they were starting to break down the mental barriers put in place to lock their memories of each other. Mitsuru's action before and after that event added to it. Before that, he was being level headed with Kokoro, treating her nicely, but like a person he just met. After that, and in particular during and for the rest of the episode after the pregnancy reveal, he looked guilty and worried, presumably because he not only remembered his relationship with Kokoro, but also the fact that he got her pregnant. Then Episode 23 comes along and reveals that NEITHER of them have any of their memories. But they get back together at the end of the episode because...? They never really give an explanation for it. They just say that "they were together once, so they can do it again," and boom, "married" again. Given how this relationship progressed throughout the show, I shouldn't be that surprised, but this just wreaks of laziness. How hard would it have been to write in that they get their memories back? Seriously, how hard? Hell, I did it in the preceding paragraph, and my creative writing experience consists of writing poems about angst in the 7th grade. Are they seriously trying to say that the two fell back in love with each other or the course of what had to be no more than a month of losing their memories of each other? What bull. What complete bull. This was a terrible romance that they somehow managed to make even worse. I hate Kokoro so much. She's written in this show to be nothing more than the human embodiment of a doormat. I swear, her only purpose is to be "saved" somehow by Mitsuru. But enough on that, let's get to Hiro and 02. To be honest, I thought the interactions between Hiro watching 02 vs. the rest of the group trying to farm and make a life on Earth were actually pretty good. Hiro was in love with 02, and she's now effectively a vegetable. It makes sense for her condition to always be on his mind, so I really can't blame him for wanting to be with her pretty much every moment, hoping she comes back. At the same time, everyone else is valid in what they do, too. Their food is cut off, so they need to farm and find water to live. It's entirely in their right to be somewhat mad at Hiro for not really helping out with this, even if it's because of an equally valid reason. Goro's blow up towards Hiro at the end of the episode actually echoed a lot of the sentiments that I was feeling in the latter half of the show, particularly that Hiro was pretty much placing all his time and emphasis with 02, keeping the rest of his friends to the side. Goro is one of the few characters in the show that I don't actively hate, so seeing him punch Hiro felt really good. Gurren Lagann was the first thing I thought when I saw the beginning of Episode 23, but that probably works against DitF, since all it did was remind me of a much better show. I don't really have many complaints about Episode 23 (other than what I said above about Kokotsuru, of course). I do like how that blonde Nine (the one who calls 02 Iota, I don't remember his name) effectively admitted to Hiro that he's pretty much lived for fighting, then blew himself up. I didn't really like him, but I would have hated it a lot more if he got redeemed by the power of friendship or something. I kind of figured something like that would happen with Hiro and 02. Specifically, I thought that both 02 and Hiro would end up abandoning their bodies to ascend to a higher level of consciousness within Strelitzia, defeat VIRM, then go off and either wander the galaxy together or ascent to a higher plane of existence. Kind of like what happened to Eureka and Renton in Eureka Seven before Nirvash ejected them (which is honestly probably the reason I thought it would happen here). And... it sort of happened, I guess? To be honest, I really don't want the story to end with Hiro and 02 coming back to Earth and living together. The story emphasized how much the two wanted each other and would never abandon each other, so if 02 is unable to come back to Earth, the logical conclusion is that her and Hiro form a new merged consciousness or something. Back on Earth, they unfreeze the rest of the Parasites that they randomly kept frozen for no other reason than to restart the population on Earth, Kokoro has her baby, and the human race rebuilds and returns to having sex. But, it doesn't really look to be shaping up that way. How disappointing.

Randomly particular Eureka Seven Topic
CaptainStarwind replied to viperxmns's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well hell, since it's my avatar I might as well chime in, shall I? Storywriter piqued my interest when I first heard it in Episode 1, and completely sold me on the series when I heard it again in Episode 26 (I marathoned the rest of the show soon after that). Get It By Your Hands is one of my favorite tracks. I always got the feeling that I was flying while listening to it, and to be honest I'm still trying to find other songs that make me feel like that to this day. Niji is a wonderful fucking song, and a perfect fit for the end of the series. I also really enjoy the song Memory Warehouse. I think it might just be the feeling of uneasiness I get from it, but the song makes me feel like something unexpected is about to happen. Oh, and in addition to all of that, Eureka Seven was also the show that piqued my interest in Joy Division and New Order, the former of which became my favorite band, and the latter of which I listen to on a near daily basis. The show also sparked my interest in electronic and dance music, which I now listen to more than the classic rock I used to listen to before. So yeah, Eureka Seven is pretty much the reason that I listen to what I do today. -

Given that the target audience for shonen is adolescent boys, I'd assume that a lot of authors just avoid the topic of romance so as to not alienate their audience. -
POP TEAM EPIC ON TOONAMI JUNE 30TH
CaptainStarwind replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Speaking of old ASMBers... I found Moose the other day. He was commenting on a youtube video about how One Piece deserves to be back on Toonami. So basically, just what we all thought would become of him. -
Yeah, good point... spoiler tags removed.

Well we always still have this one

It's getting 24, but I totally agree that it felt like the last episode. This last episode wasn't actually terrible, in my opinion. Being more of a plot episode probably helped that fact. Tell me, am I the only one who can't help but compare VIRM to the Covers in Kill la Kill or the Anti-Spiral? Because now that they said they're aliens, that's all I can think of.

POP TEAM EPIC ON TOONAMI JUNE 30TH
CaptainStarwind replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I do have to say that I'm a bit concerned as to how this will do ratings-wise. I don't find it to be a bad pick (Toonami need to branch out IMO), though I can definitely see the logic behind branding this under the comedy side of Adult Swim. But then again, ratings pretty much don't matter for Toonami anymore, so maybe I shouldn't be concerned at all. -
POP TEAM EPIC ON TOONAMI JUNE 30TH
CaptainStarwind replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Odd, I was just thinking this morning about how Toonami hasn't announced another show yet, what with DBZ Kai ending in a couple of weeks. This has been on my list to watch for a bit, but I never managed to get around to it. Guess I can just watch it on Toonami now. -
Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki Chio's School Road High Score Girl Island Sunoharasou no Kanrinin-san Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs I'm continuing with Steins:Gate 0 from this season, which brings me up to 7 shows. I was heavily debating watching Back Street Girls, if only for the sheer cringe of it, but decided against it for the time being.

Hey, I'll roll with it. This is actually the second semi-violent Toonami Ratings thread closing I've been involved in, the first being Toonami Ratings 1.0 over on Toonzone, after some guy attempted to argue that Family Guy deserved a spot on Toonami, using Peter and the Giant Chicken as justification. As long as none of yall do that, I'll be cool here.

It's actually rational, not rationale.

Eh, if it happens, then it happens. I watch most of my anime online, anyway, so if Toonami does end up cancelled at some point then I'll just pick up wherever the shows left off online.

Wow, I think this is the first time Toonami (marathon or not) is going to get preempted since it came back in 2012. It's my hope that Toonami just won't run a 4th of July marathon, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

So Kokoro is pregnant. Like I didn't call that! Of course, you could see it coming from a mile away, but that's besides the point. Considering how they haven't explicitly said she's pregnant yet (as well as the fact that her and Mitsuru seem on the cusp of recovering their memories), I'd have to guess that both of them are going to survive the show through the end, probably helping to lead humanity back to having genders and sex and stuff. The Franxx are klaxosaurs? Who would have guessed that?! APE is evil? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. The entire last half of the episode played out like End of Evangelion, except whereas End of Evangelion was (debatably, though I think so) well written and foreshadowed well in advance, this was rushed and barely explained at all. And even IF you don't really like Evangelion, the fact of the matter is that the basic plot of Evangelion, as well as the ending to the show, has pretty much entered every anime fan's public consciousness. Unless you are entirely new to anime, it's almost impossible not to know what happens in Evangelion. And that, to me, is what makes the course this show took even worse. I keep looking back at Evangelion while watching DITF and thinking, "They've done this before" or "They've done this better." The show just isn't original. Klaxosaurs are Angels. Franxx are EVA. Hiro, for the first half of the show, was basically Shinji. APE is Seele. Whatever happened in the last episode sounds pretty much like Instrumentality. Hell, one of the pilots (can't remember her name, oh darn) IS Asuka with a flat chest. I mean, there's homages, and then there's just blatant ripping off. And that's what this show is: a blatant ripoff of Evangelion. This is a bit more vitriolic than I tend to be, which is what happens when I need sleep, I guess. I'll go do that now.
