  1. I feel like this is an unanswerable question. People can have their opinion for what the "best" anime they've seen might be, but that will probably change over their lives. Even if you're trying to define "best" objectively based on the technical aspects of the anime, I still think you're going to get differing opinion. Eureka Seven has been and probably always will be my favorite anime. The degree to which this show influenced my life, opinions, and thinking is huge. I probably never would have given electronic music a chance unless I watched this show. But I'll be the first to admit it's flaws, and I don't consider it the best anime ever made. While I consider a lot of other shows favorites (Toradora and FMA 03, for example), I also know that those shows can be divisive, so they aren't the best. I've been out of the anime scene for a year or two, so I might be a bit out of date, but here are a few metrics I can define for best: -Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the top anime on MAL, so by that metric that makes it the best. While this isn't a very good metric, there's enough people who've talked about a show "dethroning" FMAB on MAL that it's noteworthy enough to include. -Cowboy Bebop is the best anime I've seen thus far based on technical aspects. The animation was great for the time it was released and still holds up today. The story is well written, makes sense, resolves well, and doesn't have any plot holes or poor writing that I can see. The music used incorporates well with the setting and enhances it. While one could argue personal distaste for aspects of the series, on technical aspects I think it's flawless. -If we're arguing best based on mass appeal, I'd argue Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro. Some anime like DBZ have mass appeal, but are either misunderstood or looked down upon by older adults (though this is changing as people grow older). Whenever anime used to be referenced in movies or TV, if it wasn't stereotyped as tentacle porn, it was stereotyped as a DBZ parody. Miyazaki has always seemed to enjoy (rightfully) a healthy respect from people of all ages, and if his works get referenced there's nary a critique. So in short, I feel like this question is unanswerable.
  2. Totally not surprised but also not disapponted. Glad it isn't Dragon Ball Super.
  3. I wouldn't know so I'll take your word for it. Though if that's the case that might explain why it's nowhere online.
  4. Well I'd rather them than AT&T, I guess? Just trading one corporate parent for another. Hopefully Sony just let's them be and doesn't decide to meddle.
  5. I think the funny thing is I never questioned the fact that Terminarcher existed until this moment. Until now I was just kinda rolled with it and never really questioned it. Though now that I think about it, he's definitely a bit out of place... but I don't care because the concept is so over the top it becomes awesome again.
  6. I think it's more likely that people just didn't bother putting it online due to lack of demand. I can't imagine that a show like this aired on Disney XD at the height of Marvel popularity and someone didn't record it. Someone out there has this, it's just a matter of time before it finds it's way online.
  7. Do the Japanese have the same love of Deadpool as the US does? Not that it matters, I'm sure they would have made it anyway.
  8. Admittedly though, Kingdom Hearts basically has a special level for itself in terms of lore at this point. When it gets to the point that you have to search Youtube videos to watch cutscenes from a mobile phone game to get world building, I think your series has a problem. Code Geass, let alone almost anything else, isn't there just yet.
  9. I agree, and I think you put that better than I could have. Everything wraps up a little too neatly for me in FMAB. Admittedly, it's a fun watch and a great climax for the series, but I can't help but prefer the bittersweet ending of 03.
  10. I definitely like both series but I like 03 more, honestly probably because I watched it first. I feel like 03 gets more melancholic towards the end of the series, and I enjoy that feeling more than huge grand finale babies ever after at the end of BH. I also agree with all the points that 03 is much better paced for the manga material it covers than BH, and if I watch the series again I'd probably do it in that order. That animation is (clearly) much better in BH, and the final fight is awesome, so I see positives about both series. I don't particularly hate Shamballa but I would not have ended the series that way. The alternate universe stuff at least comes up in 03, so it's not out of left field, and I think it still keeps the tone of the end of 03, but I'd much prefer that two people didn't get stuck in an alternate universe at the end of the movie.
  11. Well at least there's an anime coming out of it. Can't say I'm terribly excited for it, since I thought R2 wrapped the series up well enough (unstable world government aside), but it might be worth it. I'd want to check out the movies first.
  12. I'm not watching right now, is that what that was? I was wondering why I saw a Youtube thumbnail of Renton Thurston pop up on my phone.
  13. It's a temporary shift and one made out of necessity. Not exactly what I would have picked to fill the slot but I'm glad it something different and not just another Cowboy Bebop rerun. And if it doesn't work with the audience, what does it matter? Ratings mean nothing right now due to the pandemic.
  14. Yeah, I mean tons of old movies have smoking in them. Imagine them trying to edit the smoking out of something like Ghostbusters. No way that would work out any sort of well.
  15. Well this definitely explains a lot of it. I wasn't aware of Netflix' policy on it (I don't really watch it), but if that's their policy that's how it is. I don't particularly agree with the "higher age ratings" restrictions on it, but it's a minor disagreement and neither here nor there.
  16. I can accept changes to Faye's outfit on the basis of..."taste"...for lack of a better word, though I am a bit confused about the removal of a lot of the smoking. Now I'm not a smoker and I don't particularly like the habit, but both my parents and a lot of the people I work with are, so I guess I'm just habituated to not considering smoking wrong in and of itself. If this was a live action show aimed at children, I could understand why they don't want to glamorize smoking. But all I see of it is that it's aimed at an adult audience. An audience that has probably already formed their own opinions about smoking. A change like this, I feel, really isn't necessary, isn't something people were clamoring for, and going to just knee-jerk upset a lot of people. I'll admit that on it's own, it's not a huge change, but it's a confusing one, and a bad sign if indicative of changes to come.
  17. So does this count? I am glad Toonami commented on the matter, as I believe that this is something that has moved beyond politics. I will not discuss my viewpoint on this further, so don't bother arguing or debating with me about it.
  18. Toonami reruns would no doubt have significantly less viewers. The same is to be said of any TV network now. Cable TV is on the downturn with the rise of streaming, it has been for years. I think the key thing to remember here is that Toonami is niche and it knows it. Anybody who just wants to watch MHA or any of the shows Toonami runs can just do it almost anywhere online without having to stay up late on Saturday night. Toonami caters to a very exclusive audience who, I believe, come for the atmosphere as much as the shows. Anybody can just air anime on TV and say nothing of it, but Toonami puts in the extra work to create bumpers and game reviews and all the other little things they do to go with the shows they air. And I truly believe that people come to see that as much as the shows. This argument has been made before, but I think it's an important one to restate: Adult Swim knows that airing anime isn't exactly the best for ratings. They could literally put anything on in Toonami's place and it would get ratings just as good, if not better, than what is currently being aired. Adult Swim funds Toonami because it wants to. If Adult Swim was so dissatisfied with Toonami's ratings they would have killed it years ago now. And in the face of all cable TV being down, especially in the middle of a pandemic, I don't think Adult Swim's stance on the matter is going to change. Toonami's viewership will certainly decrease with straight reruns, yes, but I think Adult Swim expects that. But I don't think it will be cause for Toonami's cancellation. EDIT: WHOHOOOOOO! 1000 posts for me! I was so close to it before I took a hiatus, too...
  19. Never watched Ballmasters before, though I'll admit I was a bit interested in watching it. Can anyone tell me what the humor is like in it? More specifically, is it anything like King Star King? Adult Swim would be crazy to consider that Toonami is doing poorly enough for cancellation due to extraordinary events like coronavirus going on. Like many other in the thread have said, all of TV is basically hurting right now. And even if states are opening back up that doesn't mean this just goes away forever. I've heard reports of a possible resurgence in the late summer fall, and I'm sure that people moving around again is going to see a marked increase in coronavirus cases. This is something that is going to be prevalent until the end of 2020 at the very least. Even if Toonami goes all rerun by that point, I doubt it's in any serious danger.
  20. I probably won't bother with this if it doesn't have the ADV dub. I'm not particularly interested in the netflix dub, though if this does have both I may watch it out of sheer curiosity. On another note, I'm glad it will have End of Evangelion. I have the slimpack platinum edition boxset but I wasn't able to find End of Evangelion before the price jumped wildly.
  21. So we can hope for the same for this? I feel like the hardcore fanbase for Naruto is sufficiently rabid enough that they'll throw a huge hit if this doesn't go over anything less than perfectly.
  22. After the fiasco that was Ghost in the Shell companies are getting to know better than to cast Caucasians in all the lead roles of anime adaptations. It doesn't matter than Naruto and Sakura don't look Asian, it's an anime adaptation, and arguably one that's more Asian flavored compared to Dragon Ball and GITS. Casting white teen actors as Naruto and Sakura is asking for trouble and backlash.
  23. I still can't bring myself to care about this. Live action anime adaptations just really aren't my thing. It's a shame, though, since it really seems like they're trying to make this not horrible. If it is good I do hope it does well. Kanno being involved is definitely a step in the right direction.
  24. I agree with the sentiment that Toonami won't go into straight rerun mode. They will have premieres, though I think the question is what kind of premieres they'll have. If they want to conserve budget, then I'll bet we're gonna some more low key shows as the year goes on, or at least shows that haven't aired on Adult Swim before.
  25. I actually really liked Urotsukidoji. It's like porn with plot, only I actually watched it for the plot. I even have some songs from the OVA on my phone, I thought they were that good.
