The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
CaptainStarwind replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Maybe it's just that I'm still used to seeing the first two shows on the block get 1.1-1.2 million, but that drop from Super to DBZ Kai looks worse than it probably is. Regardless of that point, I'm sick of Dragon Ball on Toonami. I could deal with it when it was just DBZ Kai, since I do like Dragon Ball Z, and the show had a definite end point. But both of the shows on the block are getting to be too much, I think. It doesn't help that I'm not a huge fan of Super whatsoever. It keeps me entertained enough when I watch it, but the tone of the show is so different from that of DBZ (or even of Dragon Ball, I'd argue), and a lot of moments in the show genuinely make me cringe when I watch them, that I wouldn't be sad if the show left Toonami. The drop from DBZ Kai to Black Clover leaves me stunned. I want to give the show a chance, but if the ratings continue to be like that, then it needs to be moved back. -

Then why is Black Clover airing on the block? -

You're pretty much the only one who is offended by this, Ben. -

Actually with the way things have been going we're probably just going to expand to 10 PM when we get the new show so your point about Dandy "taking up a premiere slot" is entirely invalid. God forbid they they assume that a process is going to go smoothly when they were given no indication otherwise. Just like it's my fault that I assumed my roof wouldn't cave in when I paid for a decent builder to build my house. God forbid someone make a mistake. But of course they cater only to you, Ben, so they have to be perfect 100% of the time, otherwise they fail. -

Space Dandy Returns On January 27th

Wow, you'll really go out of your way to blame DeMarco for everything, won't you? While he admittedly doesn't make the best of decisions at times, this doesn't seem to be the case here. The other show fell through for the time being, so they needed a replacement. It's nothing major, really. Besides, Space Dandy hasn't been on for almost 3 years at this point, and the second half of the show never got a rerun anyway. It's also airing at such a late hour that no one can really even complain that it's taking up a premiere slot. Seems like a decent choice, actually. I've been wanting a Space Dandy rerun for a while now, anyway. -
Thanks. Turns out I also got a job offer so this birthday is good so far lol.

I definitely think that GIF looks better than anything in Super. I'm also definitely biased in saying that, because I prefer anything that was hand-drawn and inked over digital ink and paint. Thus, pretty much anything produced in the 80s and 90s looks better to me.

I don't think that Roshi's character is too much of a problem right now. See, it would be one thing if he was groping women and was still seen as doing something okay, or being in the right. That really isn't the case. It's pretty obvious that whenever he goes for a grope that he's just a dirty old man, and that when he fails, gets caught, and gets beat up, that he's deserving of it. The show isn't really accepting of his nature, just playing it for laughs. Trying to tone down his character completely would be a bit of an overreaction, IMO.

DeMarco deconfirms more shows, admits One Piece bombed.

I didn't really hate Akame ga Kill. I didn't find it the best show Toonami ever aired, but it was definitely entertaining, which is about all I can ask for. -

Is it wrong of me to say that I actually like Casshern Sins better than Deadman Wonderland? -
just finished watching death note(bluray)the other day
CaptainStarwind replied to CountFrylock's topic in Anime & Manga
You could always take the *ahem* less than legal route if you wanted to watch Steins' Gate and Madoka with her. If you're desperate, anyway. The second half of Death Note was definitely less interesting than the first, but I still enjoyed it enough. -
what the hell is going on inside Demarco's head?

Okay, that makes sense now. The way he phrased it just didn't click with me. -
What will Toonami's first new show of 2018 be?
CaptainStarwind replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'll be the first one to admit that I'd love so much to see that on Toonami. Well, that and a rerun of FMA 2003. It'll never happen, of course. But I can dream. I think Blue Exorcist S2 is a decent guess. Of course, my guesses for what Toonami will pick up are always dead wrong, so it's probably gonna end up being Thundercats 2011 Season 2, co-produced by Jason DeMarco. -

I've no doubt Toonami is definitely going to try for SAO III. Whether or not the get it is questionable. They have precedence for it, due to airing the first two seasons, but I could also see Aniplex going and immediately putting it on a streaming service instead. -

Because Netflix has a budget? -
Chris Benoit is a different situation than this, or at least I see it as such. Rurouni Kenshin is, at the end of the day, a piece of art. You can separate the artist from the artist. Chris Benoit was Chris Benoit, even when he wrestled, so it's much more difficult to watch his matches and not think that he killed himself and his family. I'm not going to downplay the seriousness of what Watsuki did, but to think that Rurouni Kenshin is going to be ruined for most people forever is overreacting to the situation. It'll probably be just fine. I can definitely see manga sales dipping a bit, at least in the short term, but if something is good, people will be attracted to it. You'll definitely get some mention of of his child porn charge when you google Watsuki Nobuhiro, but probably not so much for Rurouni Kenshin. I just googled it. Looking over the first 30 results (looking past that is isn't really worth it), only 4/30 of them reference Watsuki's arrest in some way. Of those 4, there is 1 on the second page, and 3 on the third page. Two more links state only that the manga is going on hiatus. Unless some major development happens in his prosecution, I don't think news of Watsuki's arrest will show up much in Rurouni Kenshin search results.

Excuse me for not stalking you and your viewing habits. You do know that they spend money on these tapes, right? Regardless of whether you consider that a waste of money (I'm sure you do), the fact of the matter is that they spent the money. It would be a waste not to air the tapes at this point. And why do you care what show is marathoned if you're not going to watch anyway?

...What? -
I typically don't post in the talkbacks, but I feel I had to for this one. This was the first episode of Black Clover I watched live. Between these two episodes, I can safely say that this show is the most cliche thing I have ever seen in my life. It hits all the points; annoying protagonist who everyone seems to hate, aloof rival, protagonist unlocking some great power, people being inspired by the protagonist. It's actually really impressive how generic this is. Akame ga Kill was more original than this. I'll watch it, of course. I don't hate it, and I doubt I will. But... WOW. I expected it to be generic, and it somehow exceeded those expectations. Bravo, Black Clover.
