  1. i tried to pick up some of the offerman edition but they were fresh out. went with the laguvulin 16 instead. the selection is coming along nicely...
  2. dude, this is the middle of nowhere. 700 club is always on in the waiting room at the local hospital.
  3. it's been asked for.
  4. anything from lifetime
  5. getting started on the big electric brewery build this weekend. first step is cutting a bunch of holes into a big steel enclosure for the control panel. got my patterns all put together and ready, and bought up a bunch of hole saws for all the different cuts. i could probably save a bunch of time and frustration by taking the box and patterns to a local cnc shop to let them chew it up, but that's not very diy so fuck that.
  6. i appreciate it. never noticed it until a couple hours after my workout yesterday morning. been getting progressively worse since then, like a muscle injury that i'm aggravating by remaining upright. i'm gonna have to dip into the wife's stash of happy pills if this shit doesn't turn around soon.
  7. i really don't think so. it's just below the shoulder blade. wife has had kidney stones quite a bit in the past, and she thinks that pain would be a few inches lower than this.
  8. got a pain in my back on the left side that won't fucking go away. feels like muscle pain, but nothing has been touching it, not pain pills or muscle relaxers or heavy stuff, nothing. wonder if i cracked a rib or something. whatever it is, it fucking sucks and i'm mostly useless on my feet unless i'm leaning on something.
  9. So this was fun. The big ones in the back? Those are 400 barrel (15,000 gallon) fermenters. My fermenters at home are 1/6 barrel size. Only 2400x difference... Wife next to the empty Pseudo Sue cans. There were 2 more stacks this size of Pseudo cans, plus all the other flavors. Barrel room. Drool.
  10. again, you're dealing with probabilities on such a large scale that the chances we're the first species to advance into space (or even being near the front end of the intergalactic species line) is slim. even if this part implied we were early bloomers, the thought that some other species took just one start/stop cycle less to begin, puts them millions of years ahead of us. we'll crack relativity in <1000 years if we still exist.
  11. 4.3 light years, or approx 25 trillion miles. if you could travel as fast as a bullet (let's say around 1,500mph or 2x speed of sound), it would take around 2 million years to get there. if you could travel as fast as voyager 2 (currently traveling 35,000mph and ~11 billion miles away, which took 45 years), it would take around 80,000 more years to get there.
  12. scarcity only works when you don't consider the fucking insanely large scale we're dealing with. and the distance barrier collapses once general relativity is broken, which we can assume will happen for us eventually so it's most definitely already happened elsewhere. no, i'm a believer in dark forest theory myself.
  13. i took a little longer. i was never a "fan" so much as a reluctant supporter at first, but that shit got old real quick. i will say there's one good thing to come out of trump's term. it fucking ruined the republican party.
  14. rudy = mini-me please
  15. and i hear it A LOT because it's like 75% of the population around here. my "nod and smile" is wore out, so now i just challenge these insane claims and deal with the fallout however it comes. wife says i used to be so nice lol.
  16. "sure trump pardoned them, but not until after they all went to jail." my fucking head
  17. not related to making booze, but very much related to drinking it- i'm heading up to toppling goliath this weekend for a beer release event and possibly some vip stuff, depending on what the brewery rep has set us up with. i'm sure being from where you are, that you've heard of TG and probably even had some of their beers. this is one of my top 3 wishlisted brewery visits (treehouse and dogfish also in there). the beer being released is called double barrel assassin and it sounds fucking wild. anyways, this seems like it could be a good day/weekend trip, and one i'll be making repeatedly if all goes well. i will report back with an update on whether it's worth the trip (for me it's like 6 hours but for you it's probably closer to 3). just fyi, in case you ever do things like this.
  18. no job is more important than your health and the health of your family. my day job (bank IT mgmt) has been required on-site, 100% of the time since the start of this. they wouldn't even consider letting me set up a system to get the management + back office folks linked into the network with laptops and vpn connections from home, because they think the security risk is too great. nevermind the fact that we link our bank branches in with the exact same tech and nobody bats an eye at that. i have a feeling that the shitty workplaces will get weeded out after this all settles down, and nature will take its course on them.
  19. objection: irrelevant
  20. wasn't really expecting the turn that post took. congratulations on the offspring! and good luck with those test results today. i'm pretty well-versed on the science behind mask wearing, which is what makes this particular story so striking. statistically speaking, there shouldn't be a closed group of people where the positive cases lay solely in the mask-wearing folks and entirely miss the unmasked folks. there has to be an explanation, either lack of testing/reporting by the maskless folks and/or or a greater (yet unknown) set of folks who are carrying and just not presenting symptoms yet / won't at all. it's too big a coincidence, barring any unknown factors.
  21. i guess it's also possible that there's a republican source for the spread, but they simply didn't get tested. are they doing mandatory testing for congressfolk?
  22. ...but that's my whole point. if a republican person was positive and had no mask on, it would make sense that some democrats with masks picked it up from them. but none of the positive cases are republicans. so either the "masks are effective" argument doesn't hold true in this instance, or there's some (unintentional?) misinformation being pushed because it fits a narrative. again, i'd love it if someone could square this one for me. maybe it's just a giant coincidence.
  23. i'm having a hard time reconciling how it was only a few house republicans who were maskless (no democrats), but only a few house democrats have since tested positive (no republicans). can someone clarify?
