I'm being contrarian by saying higher cost is generally associated with higher quality?

Go smoke more weed weedhead.

That literally wasn't what I was arguing with. Are you completely ignoring the actual discussion because you're too much of a dumbass to comprehend the simple premise?

I'm typing on a phone, fast, and legally blind. I miss the N pretty often. If you think basic typos are a signifier of intelligence, it's probably because you're an insufferably stupid cockjockey.

I didn't bother correcting your use of "pallet" instead of "palate" because it wasn't relevant. It's a vain attempt to make you look stupid when there's plenty of other ways to highlight how you do it on your own. If that's all you got, just say so, fatso.

Eat shit and die blindy.

How does ruining a palate equate to ruining an industry, Nabitchboy?

Ask the guy who wrote the original post. He's the one who said it.

you aren't missing much, unless its really cold, or really high end beer, like imported or craft stuff. Most beer consumed in the united states is terrible. You can thank prohibition for ruining our national pallet.

The claim is only foreign beer or craft beer is good, most beer made by our industry is bad, our beer industry makes bad beer due to beer prohibition having ruined our national palate

Why be this terrible

That palate=/=industry

You could theoretically have a low qualiry product topping charts (ex: McDonald's) and have a functioning industry. Hence, "how did prohibition ruin the beer industry?" is an irrelevant question in response to saying prohibition ruined the palate.

I've explained this multiple times.

You agreed that McD's can sell low quality products and still keep the industry thriving.

This also contradicts the notion that bad palate = ruined industry

you're saying ruined industry = not financially successful when no one has said that. Again, original guy said prohibition ruined our national palate which ruined our beer industry in that it makes shitty beer. Bucket asked how did prohibition ruin our beer industry in that it now makes mostly shitty beer

At no point did anyone make the argument that our beer industry isn't financially successful which is the strawman you're railing against.

Just stfu

If you aren't accounting for finances in your use of the word "industry" it's because you're using the word wrong.

Because the definition explicitly refers to economic activity.

Simple google search, GO!:

in·dus·try

ˈindəstrē/Submit

noun

1.

economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories.

"the competitiveness of American industry"

synonyms: manufacturing, production; construction

"Canadian industry"

2.

hard work.

"the kitchen became a hive of industry"

synonyms: activity, busyness, energy, vigor, productiveness; More

https://www.google.com/search?q=industry+definition&oq=industr&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j69i59l2j0.5269j0j4&client=ms-android-att-us&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

Hmmmm. Not seeing where a palate fits in. Let's try another definition!

Definition of industry

plural industries

1

:  diligence in an employment or pursuit; especially :  steady or habitual effort

2

a :  systematic labor especially for some useful purpose or the creation of something of value

b :  a department or branch of a craft, art, business, or manufacture; especially :  one that employs a large personnel and capital especially in manufacturing

c :  a distinct group of productive or profit-making enterprises the banking industry

d :  manufacturing activity as a whole the nation's industry

3

:  work devoted to the study of a particular subject or author the Shakespeare industry

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/industry

Funny, two definitions, nothing a "national palate" influences!

Huh, which of these would be ruined by a damaged "national palate"? I'm afraid I must not be seeing the same definition, so please translate your NaBucketese into English.

Can't believe you're actually doing this.

Recap:

Toga guy said the beer industry in America makes shitty beer because prohibition ruined America's collective palate

Bucket, obviously disagreeing that the beer industry makes shitty beer, mockingly asks why dude thinks prohibition led to the beer industry making shitty beer by way of ruining America's collective palate. Phrases it by saying how did prohibition ruin the beer industry, ruin as in lead to it making shitty beer

There's nothing there to criticize. Nobody is saying what you're saying they're saying.

Just stfu.

There's nothing crazy about saying x industry turned to shit when y happened, y ruined the industry because all it produces now is shit.

For example, one might say the film industry was great until production companies started churning out infinite sequels and shitty remakes and giving them the biggest budgets and talent, in this criticism they make a lot of money but they ruined the film industry because they lowered the standard, the quality of new films worsened.

Or another example, the video game industry was great until feminism turned it to shit by getting rid of tits, feminism ruined the video game industry. It is still financially viable but without video game tits what's the point.

The only reason you took such an issue with it is because bucket said it and you wanted to use your hilarious cucket nickname joke yet again and argue about semantic minutia for pages. Next time just stfu

YOU ARE FAKE NEWS!!!!!!!!!

You just gotta find the right beer

Yeah

Most beer is terrible (for instance, all IPAs) but if you drink a wide enough variety of different beers really fast then eventually you'll find some you actually enjoy drinking. But you should still drink those really fast

Jesus tap dancing Christ, I make an off hand comment about how prohibition ruined american beer by forcing people to drink hard low quality illegally obtained alcohol, driving most historical brewery's out of business, and re-branding things like apples, grapes, and cherries as things to be consumed in a non fermented state and everyone starts freaking out.

I was going to explain that bit yesterday but I was too tired to be bothered.

Also yes I used the wrong spelling of palate, like I said, I was tired.

I should mention it is recovering thanks to the popularity of craft beer, but its hardly what it was before prohibition, same goes for cider and wine. About the only thing that survived to pre prohibition standard was Bourbon because the people that made it never stopped making it, they just did so illegally.

To be fair, only one guy was freaking out. Calling people "fart guzzlers" and shit. It wasn't your post that caused it by any means.

I'm glad that American weed is as good as it is today despite being illegal for almost a century.

i call bullshit. there were far more breweries in the latter half of the 1800's than there were at the onset of prohibition. if anything ruined the palate of the american beer drinker, it was not prohibition, but rather consolidation, because that was the reason for a majority of the small breweries being shut down. then there's the whole fact that there are more breweries now than there have ever been in the usa (not just pre-prohibition, but pre-1870's). we're exporting more good beer now than we ever have as a country. and the laws are far friendlier toward breweries now than they were pre-prohibition.

not that any of that makes a difference, because the overall strength of the industry is not where your claim rests. the statement was that the palate was ruined by prohibition, of which no support has been provided. what i want to know is, how did prohibition ruin the palate? and if it can be argued that this did indeed occur, how is it that this is still reflected today, in a time when there's a greater selection and variety of quality beer than at any other time in history?

Good is very subjective, I'd say we produce a few decent beers. then again I hate IPA's with a inflamed passion and that is the quintessential american beer variety. Still when I'm out and able to splurge I go for imports.

That said most people drink pisswater light and nasty ice where I live. I'm partial to Guinness myself, Peroni in the summer time because its more refreshing.

Of course I prefer wine, and scotch. usually in that order.

IPAs are the worst.

Michelob Amberbock review - good in a regular ass basically Yuengling with less taste bland lager kind of way. Anyone who says they "hate beer" and it all tastes like piss water should try it, very inoffensive. Not a good beer to enjoy since there's not much to it at all but a good baby's first beer to teach you how to drink a few really fast and get a buzz without it being an ordeal. Only 5%.

You mean "Cucket"?

That's a nickname, Nab. :|

And the intention wasn't to instigate an argument. He, and eventually you, refused to explain the correlation. I just love your dumbass "proof" bullshit where you toss out the post that's allegedly misinterpreted and say "herpderp read it thats why ur wrong". No conceptualization of why it's wrong, no explanation, just look at the thing you supposedly interpreted wrong and clearly aren't seeing in the same way, but  fuck, just putting it here 10 times is gonna clear things up.

Had Cucket, Wacky, or you simply explained the correlation (which I disagree with and have made a clearer argument over than either you or him) we wouldn't still be here, and you wouldn't be bordering an aneurysm over the dumbest shit imaginable. So fuck off, Nab.

I pointed out there wasn't a correlation.

Bucket was the one who threw a massive tantrum.

He didn't "correct" me, he didn't put up coherent  arguments, he did nothing but call me a retarded dickhead or tell me to "eat shit and die, blindy". But here you are, white knighting like a motherfucker. It isn't my fault he flipped out,  nor that he had literally nothing of value to pose in opposition.

You really need to go fuck yourself, Nab. I don't give a fuck about this discussion. Your bitch fit is a nuisance, and your white knighting is migraine inducing.

i'ma try to bring this back to a discussion on the statement itself, rather than the several pages of "you NO YOU" that's been going on.

"good" is indeed subjective. so is the strength of one's palate. you and nab apparently hate ipa's, and that's fine, but they're one of the biggest styles out there, and are primarily responsible for the surge in domestic craft popularity over the last 30+ years. a person enjoying ipa's (such as myself) does not equate to that person having a rekt palate. i really don't see how the assumption can be made that people's taste in beer has been ruined by a thing that happened over 80 years ago, and has since then, driven the industry into its most successful and robust state in history?

There's plenty crazy about it.  It's utter idiocy to consider that consumer demand can ruin a mechanism that's entire purpose is to serve it.

I wasn't referring to IPA's when I was insulting our national standers, I was instead referring to the bland bread water like slop that most people actually drink, shit like budlight, natural ice, and bush beer. I IPA's are fine I just don't like them, too bitter.

As it happens I am enjoying a Sam Adams porch rocker right now, it was the most refreshing looking thing in the fridge.

But the industry is the production and commerce of the product. The product's quality is irrelevant to the functionality of the industry so long as consumers are still buying and companies can still produce. A more cogent question would be "How did Prohibition Era ruin the industry standards?" Bam! Fixed. No more confusion.

Opinion doesn't come before using the word in ways that make sense.
