Though Tsuru's influence isn't as 100% here - no surprise, since he had an assistant director helping him out - there are still notable tics of his present, most notably his habit of using in medias res storytelling for quick establishment. The opening shot of the blank wall with the off-screen siren effect and TOM and SARA talking over it was a nice little touch, as was the visual introduction to the Cosmo Samurai crew being through a first-person perspective of TOM shutting down in space, then booting back up on their ship. I expect Tsuru to have at least some involvement in the Shenmue anime, since it's from Cosmo Samurai's studio and the director was an animation collaborator on many of his works. Quote
