As theorized when KotH expired, Adult Swim will be letting the license for Futurama lapse on December 28th, exactly 4 years since it returned to  the network.

Home Movies will fill in its late night hours, and in a shocking choice, Dexter returns to 5pm. Now, if that means Checkered Past is back, or if it’s just airing solo, remains to be seen.

So it’ll be the 18th time Home Movies will air decently for like a minute and promptly kicked off for eating shit in Robert & Martha ratings?

Or will Home Movies be a 4AM graveyard show because Futurama can’t be a 4AM graveyard show like they want?

Calling Home Movies and freaking Dexter up from the bullpen suggests long term airing on those graveyard slots due to a lack of other choices.  At this rate it may not be long before Coast 2 Coast or the Brak Show reappear, unless Warner has plans for the Space Ghost comics outside that medium.

Probably gonna be this one. Not like they really have a choice in the matter unless they are gonna try to lock down a different Fox filler title. And I believe AS has long since cast away their final cares about the ratings of 4am. Something needs to air there, and something will.

Hey, remember the time [as] tried expanding their filler options by adding Sit Down Shut Up of all things? And then immediately shunted it off to 8PM on Saturdays for a single run and never aired it again after that?

Honestly, I don't know which is the stranger replacement for Futurama: Dexter in the afternoon, or Home Movies in the early morning. Doesn't stop me from appreciating their returns in the moment.

Yeah, but to do that, they'll have to pay royalties to Andy Merrill. Something tells me they won't want to do that anytime soon.

It's quite possible that Dexter returning to the schedule is just a run-up for Genndy Tartakovsky's third season of Primal. Primal won't be running in that spot obviously but it wouldn't be the first time something has been in the schedule just to hold the line and something by Genndy that they have on hand would fit that.

As for Futurama, they got it back and seemed to forget they had it as far as I'm concerned. It was rarely at a time when people could watch it despite being one of it's oldest programs. It felt like they played the same busted up movies a few times in a row and then everything vanished.
