One of the most fascinating subsegments of pre-wartime animation is the ones that used golden age movie stars and celebrities as characters.  It's a uniquely American form of lampoon that blends the plastic buffoonery of animated (and often anthropomorphic) characters with recognizable faces.  It's very much like the political cartoons that blossomed a century earlier in motion form, but with the unique element of a distinctly sanitized representations of personal idiosyncrasies.

My first introduction to Silver Surfer was the NES game. And I'm not joking when I say this, to this day I have not liked Silver Surfer the character because of that game.
