When you restructure something, is smart to have a design in mind at least....this seems to have no real rhyme nor reason, but I'll save my disappointment until they're done.

There is a plan.  The problem was that there were a bunch of relatively low traffic boards that were cluttering up the top end, so the consolidation was designed to combine topics based on the relative proximity.  Sports didn't serve much of a purpose outside of the same three or four threads and, due to the universality of sports, it made more sense to include those in GD where it would likely get better exposure.  Art's, Literature and Music had barely ant traffic so it was best to combine those.  Food was pretty much Disco and Packard's food disasters.  [adult swim] has so little to offer it doesn't really deserve a separate board, but the people who are most likely to be interested in [adult swim] shows are either a few of us in the Thunderdome or the Toonamites, so it makes the most sense to to merge Toonami with [as] and we can do our own DF take in the dome.

There is a huge difference between a plan and success, obviously.  Like you said yourself, this board has enough people that an wide open single board like Prospero might even be ideal.  It's not really feasible to go that far back but reducing the boards makes the place a lot less unwieldy, and we have time to see how it works in this format.  We can always add stuff back as needed, but it's not like we diverged from the existing predominant posting patterns to get here.

You gotta pin sports threads that are actively being used.  Otherwise we’re gonna wind up with multiple threads about the same thing.  Sports should be it’s own thing but whatever

Sounds like a them problem to me.

Get better exposure?

Do the people who want to discuss sports have an inability to find it because sports is one of those things that if you're not into, you're not going to randomly one day want to discuss the final 4.

But it's whatever, I love a shit show.

We keep flopping back and forth between this 1 community 1 folder shit and luuvs "every notion needs a folder" structure.

And I don't mind posting as a collective, that's not my issue....it just that we've already tried it and certain people feel they are too good to post with babblers, so it'll just be more of the same....

It's why I started the lore thread....I still don't know why the division exists, but it clear to me that some people just would rather talk to their friends and their friends only....which is why I thought the discord existed, but at the end of the day, no amount of splicing and combining is going to make this place any more inviting than it currently is

They could have taken the low traffic folders, merge them together, call the new folder junk, and left noise alone.

Why do you think toonamites are getting their own folder while everyone else gets the shaft.

Really, though, how is it different?  The only thing is the DF was moved over to Thunderdome, and that was a necessity to allow Pooh control over it.  The other folders are just equal replacement that more accurately describe what's in them.

But see, that doesn't solve the problem....the problem being DF.

If left alone, DF would have had more traffic than FFA before long.

Not just DF, folder campers in general.  The complaints all along have fallen one either side of a fault line - either the DF is a toxic cesspit of trolls, or the DF isn't being allowed to be the DF, but that is indicative of folder camping in general.  The IBers that flocked over to Discord aren't any less "toxic" there even with the absences of the DFers, and that is to say that its not toxicity at all as much as belief that moderation is suppressing the individual clique dynamics that tend to pollute shared topic.  The fact is, there are distinct groups in the Noise section in particular that feel either moderation is unfair/uneven or that in general they are being suppressed.  This isn't a problem with Toonami who continues to be its own unique entity attached to a very particular topic and who doesn't expect the same kind of freedoms that make the Pod 6 and IB cliques unique.

The club system is the best way for the DF to continue to have a place where the rules are specific to that folder.

I think Scoob is misunderstanding my problem here.....I don't care if we're all in one folder, and I expect no privileges...

But there are people who do and the minute anything slightly DFish occurs, there will just be a replay of last time.

I like the idea of more people seeing my shit, but I agreed to stay in DF just to quash the hurt feefees....but that's not enough, so now everyone gets to witness me.

Idk... doesn't even sound like a thing but I guess only utilizing the folders you like and not frequenting others is against the rules.

I got yelled at for camping in the pedo anime folder calling the pedos out… I can’t win

I wasn't addressing your point, specifically, just using your post as a starting point for mine.  Visibility is a draw back to the club system and there is always room to improve it.

Oh guess that was before my time in 2004

That's about right.  Toonamites are kind of the last to do it, but when Lithium first transitioned, posters that had previously co-existed in Prospero began to "camp" in the boards that aligned with their favorite topics.  As programming changed, a lot of the camping dissipated in short order with the topics, but the mentality persists in the problems that IBers have with Pod 6ers and vice versa.

I just want to know what conceptually is supposed to be the difference between Free For All and General Discussion?

By the time Pat has sorted everything out, hopefully by the end of the week, I expect one of those two to be gone. Whichever one, doesn't matter to me.

There is sports in one and not the other. That is it.

I believe the difference is you can post in one and the other is locked.
