Closing the Grimoire on Black Clover: The Final Pages (169 & 170) Discussion!!

I hope Mars and the human Fana are okay.  They were good characters.  I'm concerned since Spade apparently took over Diamond easily.

And I guess the previous plans Tabata had for a new guard taking over the Diamond Kingdom, and their mysterious leader, got abandoned, in favor of making Spade the big threat.  I do hope that gets addressed at least.

Yeah same here. By the end I was really enjoying it. It's a deep show as far world building is concerned.

Yeah.

Plus a lot of good lore.

Also really like how so many others on the team keep getting some time to shine. And not just once or twice their turns keep coming around to them.

So I found this.  The trailer shows some behind the scenes stuff on the manga and anime.  But it seems to be hyping Black Clover in general and doesn't really tell us anything about the movie.  From what I could tell, all the footage was that was shown being worked on is stuff we already saw?

I don't think there's any info about what the movie will be about yet.  It might show more of the arc, or could be random side story.  Who knows.

But maybe this is being done to tide over fans until the manga gets further ahead and the anime can return?

And maybe there are some epic events coming up that warrant being put into a movie?  Not sure.

Found a Funimation article.

I keep seeing this HITC website come up lately, though I have never heard of it.  They think it will come out in 9-12 months (from April 6th when this was announced) and adapt the rest of the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc, which sounds like pure speculation to me.  I can't check without running into spoilers of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if this arc has gone way longer than a movie can cover.

I will say, as far as myself, and the series overall.  I was listening to what everyone else was saying about how this show was one of the worst animes ever.  And I was ready to sit there and make fun of it with everyone else, if that turned out to be true.

But, when it premiered, it was not that bad.  Sure, it was corny and cheesy at times (especially the "MY MAGIC IS NEVER GIVING UP!" line, which thankfully didn't become a catchphrase,) but this show has a lot of charm to it, doesn't take itself too seriously, even making fun of itself at times (especially Yami who practically breaks the Fourth Wall at times,) and has just been downright enjoyable.

Black Clover has improved on a lot of its predecessors.  I buy Asta and Yuno as best friends, bothers, and rivals, and care about that a lot more than I did Naruto and Sasuke.  Naruto and Sakura look like crazy people when they talk about "saving Sasuke" when he was always a jerk even before he went rogue.  Their past together did not warrant that kind of feeling from them about Sasuke.  It was poorly built up and forced.

Noelle has had great growth and development over the course of the series.  And yeah, characters don't get left on the sidelines as so often happens in other series.

Great world building and diversity of cultures in the show as well.  I did enjoy the show pretty much from the beginning, but it has really gotten better and grown its world well over time.  I can't wait til more Black Clover animation inevitably returns!

Basically, I'd take a hundred more seasons of this than ever risk picking up more Sword Art Online.

Plot hole, tho: complete failure to establish the significance of the 5 leaf grimoire prior to sealing a devil in it. She "just found it." Did it have magic pre-devil power? Did she also seal the swords in there? Was it somehow just a blank slate? Who knows! It's just an (in)convenient plot device that they had to retroactively cram some backstory lore into. Fortunately, just a bit of throwaway lore that they'd never likely return to anyway, it simply is what it is now.

The Five Leaf Grimoire was created when Licht got turned into a demon or whatever, right?  Or was that a different Five Leaf?  I remember the elves saying Asta was using weapons and a grimoire that rightfully belonged to Licht.  I'd have to go back and re-watch some stuff.

But, I'm not sure how Asta's mom came across it.  Liebe did say he gained the ability of anti-magic while he was waiting around sealed up in the book.  So I hope there is more explanation for that at some point.

When I said the final battle, I meant the Spade Arc final battle, not the entire story.

Yeah I think this will probably be the last arc.  How do you top fighting the literal Devil?  And since Lucifero was just shown as the one who killed Asta's mother, now we know he has to be dealt with!

Has Bryce been playing the Devil the whole time?  He didn't sound like this before when he was black energy silhouette.  Then again a voice distortion effect may have been used.

I don't think so. I don't think he played the full demon form.

Oh, you're right, this guy voiced Liebe when he was a mysterious silhouette.  But I still think a lot of voice distortion was used.  Sort of like with Death Gun.  That voice was pretty awesome, but I guess we won't be hearing that version anymore, and now we hear the more "friendly" version?  Haha.

Bryce Papenbrook getting a supporting role AND a triple S-bomb? You don't get more finale-worthy than that!

Out of all the anime I've seen, I'd argue to say, personally, that Black Clover had the weakest start but the strongest finish, in direct relation to one another. I can't put this series higher than an 8/10 on my horribly skewed scoring scale, but based on a more fair and balanced metric, I'd say it's deserving of a 7. I definitely plan on seeing that movie, and returning to the series once the rest of the manga gets adapted for television.

Yeah the lore is what I find so interesting. I feel like there's an endless supply of material to look into and I love that type of stuff. And likewise on the diversity. Theres been many times where it feels like I'm watching a completely separate show. And thats smart because the main character of a shonen type series can only carry so much weight and focusing everything around him or her gets tiresome real quick.
