MasqueradeOverture
Only worth it if there's glopping noises. Full half-episode dedicated to extensively choreographed fucking. Make Blue Is The Warmest Color look like a church.
The1gairon
... there's yet another spin-off novel!? Why don't they just go all the way and cover ALL the spin-offs so I stop being surprised!?!?
PokeNirvash
I can't wait to see Kawahara avoid some of the mistakes he previously made while continuing to make the remaining half of them.
Jman
So when’s Alternative?
3ngag3
A.K.A. a retelling of the series but they try to make it not suck so bad despite the fact that it will suck no matter how its told.

Remember all those ridiculous time skips and how they got out of SAO in like 12 episodes? Well now they actually take their time and show the stuff that was happening like they do in anime that aren't bad. So this is going to be an entire "What if SAO was less bad" remake.

EmpressAngel
I just assume they're making this because somebody noticed they missed a couple of girls getting molested the first time around. 1

ben0119
https://myanimelist.net/news/60745866 I saw this pop up in an email from MAL. I think they inform you of sequels and spin-offs of shows you already watched? I had just woken up when I saw it and thought maybe I read it wrong, that they were making manga of the Progressive novels. No, it really is a new anime. I did not expect Aniplex to start making the Progressive anime this fast. I thought they would wait until the next arc, Unital Ring, was done and could be adapted, before making Progressive? These are the light novels Reki has been writing that re-tell the original Aincrad arc and fills in a bunch of the the stuff we didn't see thanks to those time skips. It is supposed to be a better version. In Reki's defense, he had to keep the original story probably shorter than he would've liked, to meet the word limit for the writing contest he wrote it for, and even then went over the limit and wasn't able to enter it into the contest. And Reki did not expect SAO to take off like it did. But I don't think Reki is done with this series, so are they just going to animate what has been done so far? Looks like there are 6 light novels so far. Not sure how many episodes they can get from that. And will it just show new stuff or will we see stuff from the first season mixed in? This whole time I thought Aniplex would wait until Unital Ring was done, adapt that, then adapt Progressive. It would make more sense to cover the remake of the first arc after the entire series is finished (if Unital Ring is the finale.) But, this gives them something to adapt until Unital Ring is finished in the books. Here I thought there would be an SAO anime drought for a while. Silly Benny. The SAO Progressive and Alternative predate FLCL's lol. Demarco still needs to show Alternative, though! But this one is fully a spin-off. It takes place in the Gun Gale Online world and focuses on totally different characters. And Reki didn't write it.

Funny enough the molesting and raping didn't start til after Aincrad.
Daos
There's not going to be any SAO droughts. It's a cash cow. The amount they make on merchandise alone must be staggering. When you have a printing press that prints money, you use it.
ben0119
There is an announcement trailer with what looks like new animation in it. Did they already start working on this? Edited September 21, 2020 by ben0119

You severely underestimate the industry's insistence to have one SAO SOMETHING come out any season at any sacrifice possible. The only reason there WEREN'T any SAO stuff coming out in some seasons is because they just couldn't get stuff done that fast. They turned a turd that some fan got lucky with when getting his version of Twilight fame into the next Batman/James Bond/Star Wars. ben0119
Meant to post this sooner but forgot. This explains more about what Progressive is. https://www.dualshockers.com/sword-art-online-progressive-anime/ Also apparently the writing is supposed to be a lot better in Progressive. OwlChemist81
This won't be like "Aincrad: Brotherhood." If anything, it will be the OPPOSITE! It will be like the new anime that makes the original depiction of Aincrad LOOK like Brotherhood to Progressive. No, really. Brotherhood took 14 episodes to tell what was fully fleshed-out in the original '03 FMA anime, and kept on going from there. Meanwhile, SAO Progressive will take what was sped through in the first 14 episodes of the original SAO anime and flesh that out.
