Free will is a lie, and that lie

is an evolutionary behavioral adaptation which we did not have a choice but to get stuck with.

People can only react based on what their associative memory has picked up from their environment,

and they didn't have control over what environment they were born into.

That embarrassing thing you did? Technically not your fault. That horrible person who hurt you? Also not their fault...

His frame of reference about puddles gave him the idea that this was a shallow puddle and he thought he was just going to make a little splash. No way he could have known it was a hole. If we get him some dry clothes and get him inside right away, that's pretty funny.

You should look into it.

Yup pretty much, laplaces deamon and all that. at least the process is so complicated most people can delude themselves into thinking they have free will, which is only a problem when they decide they have the right to murder someone who was driven to commit a crime by the way they all permitted them to be raised, like the irrational ape creatures we are.  I'm talking about capital punishment if that wasn't clear.

In two minutes i want to to make the conscious choice to put your hand where it wont be in two minutes.

You can usually pick out the dumb people with this statement, they're the ones who quickly move their hand.

And my point is, if free will is a lie, then the person who lies, the person who steals, the person who kills, the person who's a racist, or a sexist, etc. should be forgiven because they never had any choice to do otherwise.  I don't buy it.

Until someone comes up with a better argument that doesn't sound like it was conjured up with pharmaceuticals, I'll have to say I agree with you for once.
