3ngag3
I also just noticed that DBZ Kai is off the block. Is it still going to air, but not as part of Toonami or is it really gone this time?
korosu
boruto not keeping 10:30 makes me think they don't really plan on expanding earlier than 11 in the future. demarco saying it's tough to ask people to watch anime before 11 supports this. demarco says about kai and jack "I’m sure they’ll come back at some point." i expect them to replace titan/pte possibly in the 4 am hour and ibo would move to 3:30 which would then be locked down for a long time as a recent rerun slot. or kai would go back to being the anchor for part of the block and they put it at 3:30. 5 am is likely supermansion for now, which would end the week before DST, so i expect toonami to be 11-6 that night at least. i don't know what adult swim would even want to air at 5:30 aside from home movies, comedy wise. if toonami doesn't get 5:00 sometime next year i really wonder what they have planned for it. if the plan is to have the rerun slots be kai, recent reruns, shows they own/bebop, a super rerun would likely be what it takes to add another rerun slot, but even then the block could stay 11-5 and they just don't replace super with another show, just move all the shows up. i can't complain if home movies airs saturdays from 5-6 / sundays 5:30-6, though. if 11-5 is the sweet spot, fine. i'm not expecting them to get 8 pm back. it was already unlikely. i assume part of the reason they tried 9 pm was because it would have been kai/mha/shippuden/boruto for a few years and they wouldn't have to change it for a long time. if they're bringing back 2x family guy on saturdays, we'll see what happens to fridays/sundays. having an extra family guy on each of those nights along with two hours they won't have to change for a while on saturday was a good thing. if i had to guess, they'll add a rick and morty to sundays and maybe add a boondocks to fridays, unless or until black jesus season 3 premieres on fridays. i always preferred the block starting and ending later. that said, 9-6 would have been pretty great. that wasn't something i ever thought could happen, but i liked the prospect. if that's not gonna happen, there's nothing i can really complain about here. CountFrylock
apparently, they found family guy fans help toonami more so that's what we're getting instead of the early toonami....did i miss toonami being full of cut-away gags or something? also Good God staying up for HXH is gonna be a nightmare

CountFrylock
Just now, Daos said: It's not, it's just that you'd think it was obscure by the ratings Toonami gets. because we use an outdated format....also the fact that Americans can't seem to accept that other animes besides DBZ And Naruto exist is a big problem that'd be like thinking fortnite and call of duty are the only games that exist....and we see what fortnite has done to the mainstream media(fortnite monopoly anyone?) DBZ Can get a full-fledged fighting game but everything else just gets a low budget garbage video game that isn't even fit to be sold
CaptainStarwind
I'm glad Toonami is shrinking, actually. I've never been able to catch Toonami since it's been airing from 9 to 4, since I usually have other things to do. At least now I might actually be able to catch it once in a while. I also enjoy that it's running 11 PM to 5 AM again.
ben0119
Can't imagine why starting the block off with reruns and then stacking Naruto and Boruto back to back would result in something like this happening. And Hiatus demoted even further. Edited December 16, 2018 by ben0119

DBZ Can get a full-fledged fighting game but everything else just gets a low budget garbage video game that isn't even fit to be sold What the hell are you talking about? Attack on Titan is far from obscure. It's mainstream as could be seen by all the new anime fans (or at least AoT fans) it brought in when it debuted. Neither is Fairy Tail. Guess it's ASA and Toonami's loss that they never got it. My Hero Academia and Yuri on Ice are both popular and mainstream enough to have posters at Walmart (and there's plenty more evidence of MHA's popularity besides that,) and the latter featured in the Olympics in Seoul. Black Clover is insanely popular, like it or not. Bleach held the line long enough for ASA to survive for Toonami to even be able to return. Death Note, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Robotech, all household names. I remember when so many were shocked that the "classic" Evangelion bombed in the ratings on ASA. The fact is, most people who watch anime don't watch it on TV, if they watch TV at all. They have devices like Roku boxes, Smart TVs, or game consoles that they set up streaming services on. And Demarco saying he will "be ok" if cable dies because there's a Warner Over-the-top service coming. Lol. All these greedy, shortsighted companies, in attempting to cut out the middle man and get their own streaming services, are missing the point of what makes Netflix and Hulu so popular. They have a GIANT selection. Tons of things there and not just what they make in-house. Like, I'm going to get CBS All Access just to watch one show? Lolno. Disney? After all the entertainment companies and their respective libraries and properties they've gobbled up? Sure. Warner? I could've give 2 shits. An "on-demand" Toonami would be pointless and likely not exist there anyway. As for anime videogames, they suck because they are licensed games, and most of those suck. A lot of "original" properties by "Triple A" publishers suck these days too, as far as that goes. OwlChemist81
I'm not really sure what to make of this new schedule. It has both pros and cons. The Good: No change to Dragon Ball Super; Megalo Box at 1 AM. It's good that Megalo Box is on an hour later because most Cable TV boxing is over with by then. While the first 2 episodes of Megalobox conflicted with ACTUAL boxing, going forward that will probably rarely be the case. Now if only [as] shells out the dough for Megalobox topicals to air on ESPN's Top Rank Boxing... The Bad: ALMOST EVERYTHING is an hour later. While it might be decent for Megalo Box because of lack of conflict with live events of the medium that it depicts, the same can't be said for most other shows. Boruto's dub premiere following DBS makes sense I guess, and Mob Psycho didn't do that great at 11:30 and it's not a dub premiere so it makes sense to be at 12:30, but JoJo has NEVER gotten a premiere later than 1, and suddenly next year it will be at 1:30. Ditto for Black Clover and Hunter x Hunter. BC has previously only been on at 1:30 at the latest, but the next episode premieres at 2. Hunter x Hunter got an insanely late 2:30, when the latest it's premiered is 1:30. Adding to the insanity is two of those shows are dub premieres, and the other might not be but it first aired in Japan just 3 months ago. As for HxH, I daresay 2:30 is the latest Toonami has ever aired a dub premiere. Am I right? The Ugly: My Hero Academia kinda got screwed, falling all the way from 9:30 to Midnight, when previously the latest it aired was 11:30, and Shippuden fell all the way from 10 PM to 3 AM, which is the largest drop yet for a Toonami show. Last time a premiere aired in that timeslot was...Hellsing Ultimate II, I believe? I guess Attack on Titan at 3:30 AM makes sense, since that's the timeslot Season 2 reruns got, even if it is a little disappointing. And Good Lord -- I guess technically we can call Pop Team Epic and Gundam IBO reruns "expansion" shows, but they're in the 4 AM hour! It's tough to stay up that late even in Central time! Blatch
I love how everything always fucking comes back to Hellsing Ultimate. Even though I don't mind the schedule moves much, they could've made things a lot easier by jettisoning the 9:00 hour only, so they'd only have to dump Shippuden to the ass-end of the block. 1
OwlChemist81
I beg your pardon; it was actually the DST movie Children Who Chase Lost Voices. There were also Japanese audio episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and Hunter × Hunter that premiered at 2:45 AM and 3:15 AM, respectively. Nonetheless, the list of 3 AM premieres is quite short: Tenchi Muyo! GXP episodes 6-26 Beware the Batman episodes 1-11 & 20 Black Lagoon episodes 19-24 Hellsing Ultimate episodes 1 & 2 Children Who Chase Lost Voices And finally, Naruto Shippuden episodes 231-??? Unless you count the April Fool's Day stunt, this will be the first time a show has premiered at 3 AM in over 2 years!
