Probably a lab. Kid Vegeta is seen training against Saibamen on Planet Vegeta in the Bardock special. And I mean, if they were already defeated by Earthlings in the fight against the Saiyans, no sense in the Frieza Army using them later. If they were a Saiyan thing specifically, well it makes sense why they were never used again either. Then they upgrade those so they can also revive an entire planet at once. That pretty much ends death being a consequence.
