I've always had paid sick and at least a week if not two vacation per year, plus fifteen minutes break every four hours. I think I've always gotten like a week sick days per year, and most have allowed you to accrue days, and in some cases used accrued days for extra vacation days, if you have some saved up. I guess I've always been lucky, and I've usually worked for really good companies. And had some union jobs, too.

I wonder what that would do to my casino's absentee penalty policy. Update: Passed in both legislative chambers and signed into law by the governor. Effective November of this year. Expect eye popping increases in the rate of absenteeism.

The union's lawyers are studying that already and they seem to be focused on a clause which states that any federal, state or municipal labor law that is more favorable to the employees will automatically replace any existing CBA language.

Knowing very little about drafting CBAs, that is interesting foresight on behalf of the contract negotiators. Though that may just be a standard thing to insert in them.
