Store credit card

First time in more than fifteen years, shopping with an in store credit card.  First bill came in at over $400.  Couldn't beat the interest terms - 0% for six months when the balance is paid in full within that time.  Minimum monthly payments won't clear the balance on time.

Puh... I just paid it all off in one shot.

Great pendant, by the way.

The fact that you need to use credit for $400 says a lot about your baller status pimpin.

Who said I "needed" to?  Didn't you get the part about my paying it all off in a single shot?  This is just part of how I keep my credit score in range for a house purchase.  Paying cash for the pendant wouldn't do that for me.

Nope. So credit is defined as your ability to pay debt over a period of time, not paying it all off in the same bill period. You think credit card companies lose? Nope. You hurt your credit by paying it all off actually, much like paying a car off earlier than the agreed upon terms. See? You're a janitor... I'm a banker, a successful one.

Then, why is my credit score over 800 right now?  I read my reports often.   I keep my cards zeroed out most of the time and the reports only reflect "high balance", meaning the highest ever owed on a single card.  It doesn't reflect how I paid it.

Post your score from all three bureaus

Sorry to disagree, but that's incorrect.  Lots of factors go into your credit score and paying off an amount "over time" isn't one of them.  The number of, age of and use of open lines of credit, paying off your bills on time (not over time), Liens, civil judgements, bankruptcies, and "Hard Inquiries" are what affect your score.

With credit cards Mr wizard.... "Credit" is your ability to pay back over agreed upon terms... Not credit score.

Also, any outstanding balances from non credit sources could wreck scores as well.  Like, if you don't pay your medical bills or let utility bills pile up and compound over several months.

Credit score as determined by said credit cards is used by banks and credit companies to determine a person's credit-worthiness.  The OP was about a credit card and the inference was that such a credit card purchase would not help.  Were that true, I would never have been able to purchase 2 of my past vehicles, my previous condo or the house I currently live in.

Let me get this straight Packard, you bought a wankster chain guaranteed to turn your neck green for $400 and are now dispensing financial advice to a banker....

I want to confirm that is what I am seeing.

How about the house?  Don't forget that. It was my credit that got it.

Any appraiser would say it's not a green neck.  Besides, even if they did try to cheat, the certificate they gave me entitles me to a refund, enforceable in small claims court.

It doesn't matter anyway... I could sit in his living room, use his computer to download and print it in front of him and he would still not believe it.

You think so?  That must be because it's not true, right?  Your credit score is total shit isn't it?
