Naraku4656 Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 it's this really gross linoleum that i've hated since i moved in. flooring is goddamn expensive though. christ i sound like my parents
StarPanda Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 The master bathroom flooring well look at you
Naraku4656 Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) it's yellowing in places and it looks horrid. i want to replace it with porcelain tile but i know it's going to be a bitch and a half to find decent tile and someone better to install it. bonus season is coming up, but i have to choose between doing that or a trip i've been wanting to do since paying myself back for the house down payment Edited December 19, 2017 by Naraku4656
Ginguy Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Flooring itselfisn't that expensive, it is the prep work that can run up the cost. Of course, you can always skip the ditra, but then you'll be filling in cracks and probably dealing with rotten subfloor in a year or less...
Naraku4656 Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 not sure what that is, is that a sealant or something? i either want pre-sealed grout or something decent that they'll seal then and i'll use the second shower for like a week until it dries
Raptorpat Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 We ripped up the ancient floor in the kitchen and put in tile. It took us so long to do it because we were pretty sure the old floor was asbestos tile and I was waffling on how to take care of it. So on the day of, my father ("it's not the bad kind of asbestos you're thinking of") gives me a hammer and another tool to pry off the trim, telling me to be careful and not to ruin the wood so he can reuse it after. So of course as I'm distracted, carefully trying to pry the wood off without splitting it, he takes this mean looking shovel tool and just starts scraping the whole thing up as if it were impacted snow and ice on the driveway. Dodging death aside, it looks a whole lot nicer with actual tile.
Naraku4656 Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 i'm going to get pricing to check but i'd have to do it probably during a time when they're not busy so prices are lower. i don't really care about the other bathrooms that have it because i don't ever use them but this one i use daily and it just looks awful
wacky1980 Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 do vinyl. shit's waterproof, can be made to look like anything, clicks down / floats, and doesn't require sealing or setting. and it's only a couple bucks per sqft.

NaBarney Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Why not just throw some better looking linoleum down
Codename: Jackass Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 My bathroom floor is bare concrete. Some dumby thought it was a good idea to carpet the bathroom and when a pipe burst that carpet was ruined. Also years of shower leaks and toilet overflows hastened its demise. It was ripped out and left as-is.

Phillies Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 You don't have the cash. You need to buy complex carbohydrates instead.

Can DIY or pay someone not very much again, this. if you have to take up the old linoleum, then do it. but if it's still adhered pretty well with not giant gouges or corners pulling up, just lay new right over the top of the old. and use vinyl plank. i'm tellin' ya.

Looks like real wood, but it has overlapping that sticks to itself rather than the floor below. You can cut it with a razor knife (for straight lines I score it and break it) or even scissors for odd cuts. Also, your bathroom shouldn't need more than two boxes and that's for a big bathroom. It's about $48 a box.
