She avoids you other times because Cats are very territorial. She's adjusting to you How old is she before I take any more guesses?

If you pet her when she has nothing else to think about, she only thinks about the petting and it gets to be too much for her brain. Try giving her a treat away from the food bowl and petting her when she's enjoying the treat. Not too much but maybe after doing that awhile she won't get so worked up if you just pet her without a treat.
