New computer? Since it's a new Windows computer, you are going to have to give it time. It's going to perform some major time consuming updates and installs for a bit. Also, don't be alarm if you hear your hard drive screeching like a banshee. From my experience, new Windows computers do that within the first few weeks of operation. It's Windows, so a great battle awaits you.

Distortedreasoning
many new computers come with a lot of bloatware. i'd suggest you do a clean install. windows 10 should take care of all the drivers. if not you can go to the manufacturers web site for that. Cau
I actually did a fresh install about a month ago, took about an hour with my ssd. PhilosipherStoned
The screen keeps changing sizes? By that do you mean your screen resolution is crapping out? If you have windows seven and up you can try typing perfmon/report to test that all your pc omponents are working propery. Since it's new you shouldn't have a failing graphics card or anything, but this check can still be helpful as there could be an application or some wierd error causing drivers etc to not do what they are supposed to. Also run an antivirus/malware scan...There's also a bunch of built in file checkers you can run that could diagnose the problem for you through command prompts. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/verify-the-integrity-of-windows-vista-system-files/

PhilosipherStoned
you can't get the screen to stay at the default zoom then? I had a laptop with all these weird zoom shortcuts once that caused me to unintentionally zoom in and out a lot, but I've never had a glitch or program cause that. Depends on how you do it. Everything *should* get put in a folder called windows.old and you should be able to just pull it out of there when it's done. Whenever I do it I format the drive before I install, so if you do it that way there would be nothing left on there.
PhilosipherStoned
Did you run any of those checks I posted. Now that I know you have windows 10 you should just be able to type perfmon/report into the cortana search bar and click on.. Oh it;s just called performance monitor in windows 10 I guess. It should test that all your pc compenents, drivers, and system files are doing what they need to.. All I'm trying to say is there's probably a system utility that can find the problem or atleast provide some helpful hints. stuff like checksys... PhilosipherStoned
hmm that wasn't what I thought it was then. I was trying to get you to run this.. without accidently scanning my computer. Oh well. I might as well do it anyway. Uggh hold down your windows key+R then type perfmon/report, and it should run a scan that will tell you if actual drivers are not working or sytstem files/applications are doing stupid stuff. It's been a while since I've had to do any of this stuff sorry. I'm going to run it to try do activate some brain cells. > http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-test-your-pc-for-failing-hardware/

PhilosipherStoned
you could. I think a few others have already given you the full rundown on what you can do if it's an update causing issues. So you're getting prompts to download the same update over and over? I think I;ve had simular issues, and yeah sometimes all you can do is keep trying to run the update. Only thing I could think of is maybe an important part of the update is failing to install so it's still giving you more update notices because your pc is detecting that that particular app or file is not updated. If you check your update history and see that every part of the ipdate downloaded and installed fine then I have no idea..
discolé monade
thank you. i will run the update. and if it still acts like an ass i will do the last thing you suggested. next step is to use this damn thing as target practice, as hunting season is rolling around soon.
