I don't understand the complaints about this ending or how the idea of bad stuff happening in a distant future long after all the characters are dead somehow makes the story pointless. Life isn't pointless because there is death. History isn't pointless to know about just because like 95% of it is civilizations and societies that are long gone. Trying to push forward and create a better future for the following generations isn't pointless even though you can't guarantee what might happen in that future. I think It's a realistic, thematically fitting ending and I can't really imagine a different one, not with the way the story was told leading up to this point.

Bleach - Thousand Year Blood War Arc to premiere October 2022
Winter_Rain replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
There's a masochistic part of me looking forward to this. Seems only right for the last arc to finally get animated. Can't decide though if I want the anime to improve on the source material, or if Bleach deserves to be animated exactly as it is, in all its trainwreck glory. -
One Piece is BACK on Toonami this Saturday
Winter_Rain replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Didn't expect One Piece to come back to television, but I guess their chosen starting point (post-timeskip) makes sense, it's the easiest spot to jump into for new people. Doubt I'll be watching though because while I do follow the manga, I've heard the anime's pacing can be pretty bad. 😅 -
Yashahime: Princess Half Demon to replace Promised Neverland
Winter_Rain replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
From what I've heard this "sequel" is pretty much animated fanfic. 😶 -
Did you do enough research into the show?? The characters aren't explicitly Japanese, but they're also not whitebread white people either. Spike has a Jewish surname, Ed is brown, and Faye is from Singapore, a multiethnic Southeast Asian country mostly populated by Chinese, Indians, and Malays. The casting 100% deserves to get questioned if it just "happens" that the actors all end up being white with Northern European features.

I thought most anime was late night TV? And there is always the infamous Chapter 16.5 for the people who want their SAO a little more spicy... 🤣 The "no personality" thing is exactly what makes Kirito so popular, and is exactly what propelled Twilight to success. Because then the target audience can use the protagonist as a self-insert. Only difference is that one is for girls and one is for boys.

I mean You could take it as a massively unsettling BAD END downer ending when you look at it that way. Because otherwise the entire series was pretty much pointless. Essentially nobody and nothing changed.

Tbh to this day I'm still not sure if Kubo is a hack writer whose good content was a fluke, or if he was really a troll consciously writing bullshit.

I missed out on this show the first time around, so I'm interested in seeing it now.

It's pretty much the light novel version of Twilight. Became puzzlingly popular despite being amateur and spawned a million emulators. And hell, one of the Twilight emulators (50 Shades, which started off as Twilight erotica fanfiction) became crazy popular in its own right. It's clear --- the next stage in isekai evolution involves BDSM. Really badly written BDSM.

That actually could have been an interesting plot if his seeming plot armor and Gary Stuness (like the dual wield) really was just dumb luck and his version was just buggy and glitched somehow. Then he gets to find out he was never as good as he thought, it could have been anybody, and gets crippling survivors' guilt! 😈 But in general, my core problem with SAO was that it felt like a first draft --- potential is there, but the ideas needed a lot more refinement and some things should have been axed completely before it was allowed to be formally published. Then again, the LN crowd doesn't exactly have discerning tastes, from what I've seen...

Off the top of my head I can think of: -JoJo -Parasyte -Ushio and Tora -Karakuri Circus -Cutie Honey -Banana Fish There have also been some older anime getting more modern "remakes" (Space Battleship Yamato, Legend of the Galactic Heroes) As well as other properties that have been re-adapted or re-imagined in some form in recent years (Sailor Moon Crystal, Megalo Box/Ashita no Joe, Captain Tsubasa) There might be more I'm missing, but those are all pretty recent, and that shows a greater willingness of the industry to tap deeper into the vault for ideas. Downside to this is that there's a ton of anime being produced right now, and having to fall back on remakes isn't always positive, especially if it's poorly done. Hollywood and the TV industry seem to be clinging to this "nostalgia trend" too, unfortunately. It's not good to be too stuck in the past and constantly trying to recapture lightning in a bottle instead of just...you know, making something new.

It's a very scary time for young men in America.
