  1. Toonami’s last big hurrah was Samurai Jack season 5, because it was the last thing the other services didn’t have. Now? It’s funny, because anime is less segregated than the first boom by a mile but that integration has left Toonami obsolete almost.
  2. The thing for me with Toonami is that a lot of it is stuff you need to be in the mood for. Knowing how Naruto ends soured me on it forever, DBZ is something I’ll take in a chunk every now and then like now that FighterZ is out, and I have no desire to see Hiatus. Even IBO was on Hulu and I saw it there on my own time. If I do want to see something, online services likely have me covered.
  3. Why else would the girl that introduces our broken bird to romance be Lum? Subtlety is a foreign concept to Trigger and Gainax vets.
  4. Apparently A-1 has a bunch of Gainax vets, which furthers my theory that Gainax and its successors love their metaphors. In this case, it's a metaphor for puberty and the discovery of romance. Also Zero Two is Lum. There's no real way to put it. She's Lum from Uruesi Yatsura. Good stuff.
  5. Clearly the series should have ended with GT, weirdo ending and all.
  6. Fan service laden shows work for better or for worse. Kill La Kill, Akame Ga Kill, and...SAO.
  7. Part of their continued effort to take over the world (of anime). https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-01-31/netflix-to-co-produce-anime-with-production-i.g-bones-wit-studio/.127164
  8. Actually, Enel WAS modeled after Slim Shady. Oda was a big fan. Also obvious photoshop is obvious.
  9. That’s because they bought...everything. At the same time. Crunchyroll is pretty profitable and so is Hulu. Disney and Warner are both preparing to role out their own On Demand services. This is the future for better or for worse. And Toonami increasingly feels like a relic.
  10. The demand is higher than ever...but the only people benefitting are non traditional outlets. DeMarco’s hatred of Netflix must be seething over.
  11. Clearly the ratings don’t matter when you want to ignore how bad they are.
  12. Outlaw Star is not homophobic, first of all. Bebop is noir sci-fi (focus on how little humanity changes, low and hi tech meeting, drama over relationships), Outlaw Star is pulp sci-fi (space battles! Super guns! And a guy with a crew of hot women on his super special ship! Gene is a more reserved version of a Buck Rodgers or Flash Gordon, but he still gets the girl in the end), and Dandy is satire of sci-fi.
  13. Pop Team Epic 4. The Japanese know who Earth, Wind, and Fire are.
  14. My condolences.
  15. Both of those are out of context.
  16. I think 10 or 11, making her 20 or 21 after the timeskip. Yeah, that would be fun to argue over.
  17. Wilykit would have been aged up. There was a 10 year timeskip planned. We never got to see the REEEing from the usual idiots.
  18. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 12.
  19. It was an entire season’s of plots, many of which had scripts. Yes, that’s the short version. If you want the REALLY short version, CN fucked the production over because they wanted it to be a Toonami show but CN said they wanted it on the channel proper. Also the show initially got a renewal, then CN got the far more toy friendly Lego Chima and rescinded the renewal.
  20. Him and Kong had the most pathos, of a huge cast. Those were the two I cared about. Everyone else, eh. For your health.
  21. I like Ajin and Knights of Sidonia. Does that mean my standards are low?
  22. He was He-Man. After the series was cancelled, DC published a crossover between He-Man and the original Cats. Lion-O (with strength beyond strength) was He-Man’s equal in power.
  23. https://www.cbssports.com/wwe/news/this-is-the-xfl-again-controversial-football-league-set-to-return-in-2020/
  24. The short version is here. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WhatCouldHaveBeen/Thundercats2011 We would have seen characters die, the Tigersharks AND the Silverhawks teaming up with the heroes, and that’s the tip.
  25. It wasn’t that bad. Still, watch Kong: Skull Island if you need more monsters. It even has Steve Brule in it. For your health!
