  1. Hey, the numbers aren’t too bad. Allow reruns to crater all that goodwill next week.
  2. Trying to produce original content instead of stuff people have seen on Hulu, Crunchyroll and Youtube? Snark aside, making originals is technically a smart move. Their last original, Samurai Jack season 5, did big numbers without the show airing elsewhere first.
  3. I’ve gone on about how streaming is the future, but that’s a matter of airing it first. Netflix’s thing is they’re making shows at a far greater quantity than Toonami. For every FLCL, Netflix has 10 originals alongside their live action originals. So Toonami will acquire Black Clover seasons while Netflix out and out makes a Saint Seiya remake. It’s not comparable.
  4. You would think he’d be all over the Legend of the Galactic Heroes remake.
  5. Even so, it probably had a substantial impact on their coffers, making acquisitions harder.
  6. The cost of making a show from the ground up...on Toonami’s budget, is probably a much greater percentage than Netflix and Hulu’s respective budgets.
  7. Connor McGregor has lost his goddamn mind.
  8. Adult Swim put Bushworld Adventures up legally.
  9. The original Reboot was something of a watershed moment for Toonami because it was proof the audience wouldn’t crap on Western shows. It was also proof Toonami’s notorious editing standards were because they were trying to censor freaking harem anime. Reboot had more freedom with Toonami than it ever did with ABC. So it nothing else, it’s a part of Toonami’s history, while this just seems full of shame and self loathing from the writers.
  10. Springing what could have been anything from mustaches to The Disaster Artist ensures this weekend didn’t count. But FLCL 2 and 3 are now talking points, so at least there’s that.
  11. I can’t help it. I liked the original and it really did serve to show what Toonami could do.
  12. BEBOPAIRZLOL as the budget is pushed to the breaking point. If FLCL 2 and 3 flop the block will feel it for years.
  13. I wonder if Tim and Eric will throw another bitch fit like the rumored one over S2 getting more money than Awesome Show because WS still wants to do Big O 3. I was just starting to like them again too. I’m pretty sure the bulk of Toonami’s budget went towards the new FLCL so we should brace ourselves for slim, SLIM pickings and pushing the reruns to exhaustion. I mean, the strategy makes sense, they’re seen as second fiddle because their stuff is airing elsewhere first while other services have the rights to or are making exclusives, but they only have so much money to go around.
  14. It was inevitable S1 was going to air in the lead in to S2. How that reflects on S2 and S3 remains a mystery.
  15. DeMarco’s tastes in comedy tend to run towards the episodic and the simple. Ask Brendon Small.
  16. The Legendary Kaiju are playing it smart. Each film is more about the stand alone with a bit of sequel hook.
  17. I don’t hate everything. Mind Game was amazing. But I still feel like FLCL being revived is everything I was worried about.
  18. The reviews were not positive across the board by a long shot. I’m sorry, but it will sink in in a few months.
  19. Poke, it is derivative and boring. Which is exactly what FLCL shouldn’t be.
  20. Episode 10 proves to me that writers for kids shows these days either have completely thin skin, a huge amount of self loathing, or both. HURDURURUDUR OLD REBOOT FAN IS BASEMENT NECKBEARD. Fuck you, no one asked for Reboot to be remade as goddamn Power Rangers.
  21. This was insane but it’s art, so you’re not allowed to make fun of it without being labeled a Black Clover fan.
  22. This is art. Bill Plympton has gone so far as to call this the Citizen Kane of animation.
  23. It’s FLCL fanfiction. There’s no way around it. Also why is the lead a clone of the lead from freaking K-On?
  24. This looks to be FLCL’s answer to Eureka 7 AO.
