Can I point out the 80’s show...had surprisingly good fight scenes? You don’t get that from noodle people in CalArs.
-
Like I said, we’ll watch it tonight, and we’ll determine for ourselves. But for the life of me I do not remember any plot hooks or bait for sequels.
-
Alright, let’s have some fun with reruns. Watch this show. Tell me afterwards if you think it needs a sequel. If you do, explain why. This isn’t meant to be trolling, but an honest to God thought exercise on why this show, besides DeMarco’s self admitted nostalgia.

He’s not focused on romance with anyone living (long story) although Negasonic is in a relationship with a girl called Yukio...and it’s treated as perfectly normal. Well, the relationship, not Negasonic landing a girl.

The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

SmackDown was also on USA Network for about two years. Before that it aired on SyFy of all places. This splits the roster in half between two networks but dramatically increases said rosters value. -
Texan animation studios are making shows indistinguishable from animu

Yeah, Rooster Teeth’s work quality wise is a step well below Powerhouse’s. That being said landing Killmonger for a role is pretty damn impressive Post Black Panther. -
I could be a jerk and point out that show is pretty much Gundam, but it was supposed to be pretty good regardless of that fact.
-
God, someone is going to remake that as an overly cutesy romp soon, aren’t they? Animation from Sunrise BTW.

Probably the 8+ age group. It was trying (and succeeded IMO) to strike a balance between the overly comedic original show and the more comics accurate but kinda up its own ass at times 2003 series. The idea of advertising on Bellator was “Hey, remember this thing you liked as a kid? It’s back with better writing! And if you have kids, bring them too! They’ll love it!” Roar is “Hey, remember this thing you liked as a kid! It was for babies and we’re making it for babies if you complain you’re a man baby!”
-
The art director flat out said he was aiming for 14+. Considering the ratings, he was successful. The thing is, shows can do that and still deliver toys to the kids. You know where I saw the first ad for the 2012 TMNT? A freaking Bellator MMA card. They literally took two minutes between fights to show a clip from the first episode. That was clearly going for an older audience but kids were on board too.

The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

The continuing decline of CN in ratings across the board forcing them to get cheap ass programming as cheap as possible (see this Thundercats Roar nonsense using super cheap animation to get a massive quantity out quickly in a similar manner to TT Go) is reflected further in what companies are paying for. Yesterday, WWE got Fox to buy the rights to SmackDown for a massive $1 billion (yes, Billion with a B) over five years in addition to NBC tripling their current pay to keep Monday Night Raw On USA Network. Not to be outdone, their legitimate sports counterparts, the UFC, signed an exclusive deal with ESPN to be on their networks and online service for $1.5 billion over 5 years. In both cases, companies are investing massive amount of capital in live sports both real and fake, while ESPN is going the extra mile to bolster their online exclusive content to stay relevant. Meanwhile ratings across the whole of Cartoon Network are in free fall. -

That was more referring to Powerhouse, who made Castlevania. Which looks like this. -

That’s not the new season of The Deuce? -

You have to play the Human Torch before being in a good comic movie. It’s a rule. -
Between all the yelling, the writing in Reboot the Guardian Code, the writing in half these shows from CaliArts grads, I’m convinced that Western animators are among the most self loathing people on the planet.
-
The fervent defense of CaliArts by all these people just shows how incestuous the industry there is.

Sick of arguing over Nielsen’s? Apparently so is Turner Entertainment.
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
That’s the problem. Everyone goes “Nielsen’s are shit and inaccurate but it’s the best we got.” Because no one offers an alternative. -

Tiger and Bunny Hollywood Film greenlit - Anime is the new comic book
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
I loved that movie (between Tucker, Gary Oldman, and Bruce Willis there was enough charisma to carry the whole damn thing), so if you’re down with it Mochi, I’m down with him acting that way. -
How many of them are just kissing ass to try and land a job?

Hey, I laid into the show pretty hard when it was Toonami, remember? Of course that wasn’t helped by the fact that the show was apparently saving all its good ideas for Season 2. Note to all potential writers - DON’T SAVE ALL YOUR GOOD IDEAS FOR SEASON 2 OR THE SEQUEL. At least hint at them heavily. Classic US cartoon example - GI Joe Extreme was a pretty poorly received attempt to make a Rob Liefeld style Joe series. Except a writer on the show admitted Season 3 was going to do something that the first two seasons didn’t hint at except vaguely, that the new “EXTREME!” bad guys were actually the unknowing pawns of Cobra Commander, as Cobra had begun infiltrating numerous governments at the highest levels. Cobra is not mentioned once during the run, let alone Cobra Commander. So viewers didn’t care. At least give viewers the hook.
-
I’m just saying that going off at the mouth towards an industry director when the same CaliArts circlejerk could easily blacklist him is unwise. You probably don’t remember this, but the classic case of this was Matt Wilson, the director of a web cartoon called Bonus Stage, whose entire shtick was bashing shows left and right...while using his real name. That resulted in him being pretty much blackballed when he tried entering the industry.

LK is actually in the biz now as a legit VA. (IIRC his most recent work was the Netflix Godzilla movies). Yeah, I can see why he’d want to not stick his foot in his mouth. If you ask me, this is just showing the obsolescence of cable TV showing these programs when Netflix and Hulu are investing only God knows how much money in the Japanese animation industry.
