Even the 9 years of the revived Toonami have seen the market for adult animation fundamentally shift and contort in ways that no one could have imagined when Toonami re-launched, much less when Adult Swim launched and for several years, was pretty much the only game in town for adult animation save the occasional fly-by-nite competitor that never really got the point. Of course, one could argue these days Toonami has fallen into the same trap it has watched competitors from Encore Action to Ani-Monday fall into, and that led them to think they would never end. Namely, people realize there is a market for this stuff. A big one.

Anyway, it looks like instead of doing it in-house at Rooster Teeth, they’re outsourcing to Bardel, a studio made famous for...The Dragon Prince. I guess when you spend all that money on top shelf acting talent, hiring decent animators is out of your budget.

Toonami is going to get Season 2 without a doubt just to keep it away from Netflix as long as they can. Which sucks because they won't get the movie, and the show does better on Netflix anyway.
