The New York Times review was absolutely glowing, loving the concept of humans dealing with being the invasive species in a truly alien world. Whether the audience is on board always remains a question mark. -

The MAGA crowd threw a bitch fit, so Jordan is back to “me or this stays shut down” because the GOP is broken on a fundamental level. -

Jordan is throwing in the towel, letting the acting Speaker take on full control until the next session of Congress convenes January 3. -

Sounds like a case of the moderates realizing some people will take the heat, so they suddenly have a spine. -

The GOP playbook seems to be “wear then down with sheer brute force repetition.” -

Hopefully the 20 stand against Jordan’s attempts at arm twisting. He allegedly got Fox News and the usual propaganda machine to really turn up the heat. -

A rep said this was “worse” than Jordan hoped. Don’t suppose eight would cross party lines in exchange for something. -

One of the congressmen is attending a funeral so the margin of error was 3 votes. Jordan and Trump’s threats reduced the no’s from 50 to 10. -

Vote is today and it looks like eight GOP will vote no while everyone else fears Trump having them primaried and censured. This is down from 50 following the usual "Vote in lockstep or else" campaign that is Current Year. That's still four more than Trump can afford to lose. Granted, the GOP has been working overtime trying to lean on these jackasses to elect the insurrectionist as Speaker. -
2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Jman replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
With the GOP vote for the insurrectionist and the usual lockstep nonsense, it seems more clear than ever that our system is broken. Every four years Trump will keep running until his KFC clogged heart finally gives out and every four years people have to vote between Democrats and straight up fascists. A proper Conservative party doesn't have the billionaire backing the insurrectionist/useful idiot coalition does even if they might have policies people care about. It's not even a case of "I disagree with these policies but we can work together", like it was back in the 50s and 60s. It's "Project 2025 (actual thing that exists) - Destroy the planet and put the country in an isolationist Christian Theocracy", or nothing. And it's equal parts infuriating and hopeless. -

Funny story, they showed off these shirts at the NYCC panel, but the host wore the Chicago Bulls one. The New York crowd booed the everloving shit out of him for that.
