The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
So I guess I'll put in my $0.02 here. I am personally starting to think that this really is an issue about the block losing its popularity. Suite twenty yen here:a bit of this comes from seeing Rick and Morty's popularity get higher than ever before. The show trended on Twitter at arguably peak hours, holding its own against Game of Thrones and the rest of the "cool geek TV" programs. And it rated insane: If you didn't realize it, the season premiere was the most watched new episode (and probably the most-watched thing period) on [adult swim] since The Boondocks in 2014. Meanwhile, Toonami's numbers and trending capacity have become flaccid, and I'm actually not sure what the problem is, but I have a few hunches. Things have gotten so bad that not even freaking Family Guy can get over a million viewers. I do think part if it comes from the show being ran into the ground, but this progression happened so quickly that there has to be another cause. So maybe Live PD really is eating into [as]' space as a whole. It commands so much of that airspace as to be obvious. However, I don't know what typical FG viewers would want to get out of that show, which makes its dominance somewhat strange. Maybe politics have something to do with it all. But I won't dare talk about that, since I could start a flame war. |:: I do think the trending is important to look at. Shows only seem to come up for a few minutes at a time, maybe a whole slot now and then, but they never stick. Other than Samurai Jack and characters from it, I can't remember the last time anything from the block trended worldwide. It's always just the US nowadays. They also don't even make it to the Top 10 too often (which is all the browser client sees). I just don't see much enthusiasm in the block, even with shows like Lupin and JoJo's Part 3 coming in. Is this because Toonami isn't getting popular enough shows? Honestly, that's tempting to believe. You may not have liked shows such as Sword Art Online and Akame ga Kill!, but they brought lots of casual anime viewers in who otherwise don't bother with such shows. JoJo's and friends are liked by anime fans, but not the casuals. Have there been any such shows to get that vaunted demographic? Well... gay figure skaters, for one, but that's not really a good fit for the block. I actually think a lot of this has to do with how splintered the industry has become. Anime Strike plays a huge rule in this, since they lock shows behind what amounts to $15 a month and the quality of their streams can be pretty bad (Welcome to the Ballroom had mistimed subtitles on the first episode!). Then you have Netflix and Sentai Filmworks getting shows for themselves through their new HIDIVE service. You have to think that not being a part of the Funiroll/VRV network is a major drawback to a show's success, but I think they brought this upon themselves to an extent. But you know, a lot of these things aren't even Toonami's fault. They certainly don't care about whatever the other major media corporations are doing, and there's not much they could do to combat them anyway. Which is why, and this is going to seem like a huge letdown after that wall of text... don't worry about the ratings. Toonami won't be cancelled as soon as things go south. They'll probably shrink back to 3 hours or so and return to a midnight starting time if they're in danger. So just continue to watch the block and tell your friends about it, because that's what we've always done. Also, I own a Toonami T-shirt to help with the advertising effort. -

I was going to make a joke about how the ratings would be 100K lower than you were expecting. So yeah, this isn't a surprise. I just doesn't hope it turns to serious fearmongering and stuff. -
That and Cannon Busters (which itself is probably done, and already long overdue) back-to-back. I'd enjoy it.

:painfap: Also, relevant link. Anyone who thinks they're suddenly going to charge Aniplex prices hasn't read it. [700th post]

For what? About one minute spent on TVTropes would explain what that means.

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Some thoughts: JoJo's Part 3 is off to a good start. I don't know why we're tossing Hamon to the wind, but considering what I've heard about Stands, those will hopefully be more fun over time. I also like how they even let Joseph have one in his old age, even if it's not a particularly useful one. But at least we're still in an era with Polaroids in big supply. Tokyo Ghoul has become a chaotic ball of nihilism and hatred and I don't care for it anymore. It should've ended with Season 1's finale, because at least that one had character development for Kaneki and it made me feel something... :robotss This week's Lupin was... weird. Why'd they have to get rid of the zombie plot after the first third of the episode? The rest was fairly out-of-character for him, at least based off of what I've seen so far. I don't get it, which must be why they made this one an OVA for the Japanese run. [thank you, robot emoticons] -
Well, consider it running gagged to me. :painfap:

Can we please stop with this? I guess it's okay to call Zeni funny names, but not the literal exact same post more than a dozen times.

Yeah, I did the one for GiTS... and now this one, too. Enjoy "Beast Titan" tonight, plus the rest of the episodes. I'll be too busy getting extra sleep.

HUNTER × HUNTER EPISODE #60 "End × And × Beginning"

I don't know, but any normal network wouldn't have aired a particular show to this extent. It's making Nickelodeon's constant whoring of SpongeBob back in the late 2000's look tasteful. Are any of their other shows doing badly? Because even if TTG has been doing great, I don't see the reason why you can't have anything else.

Toonami Weekly Marathon Stream 2017 Archive & Updates
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Did the stream ever switch episodes when Bebop was on last week? They tend to not do so for whatever reason during big events such as SDCC. But to ignore it on this particular week would be strange. -

Toonami To Rerun Attack On Titan Season 2 At 3 AM
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Ouch. So that experiment only lasted one week? Why not give it at least a little time, unless Toei saw what Toonami tried to do and threw a fit. This also means that the Samurai Jack encore only airs at 3:30 now. I'm not sure why they aren't considering it a part of the block. You could just as easily promote it that way and have the block run from 11-4. Honestly, while getting back 11:00 is nice, and it's good to see that they can use the slot for things other than co-productions... I don't really think this fixes anything. You're risking saturation with airing DB Super three times in one night. If you want to encore it, do so on a different day, like Wednesday at 8:00P. Would that be good enough? For Toei, probably not. And why does the official on-air schedule now have spaces between the content rating and the descriptors? That goes against everything I assumed about them for the past few years. What the hell, man. -
Toonami To Rerun Attack On Titan Season 2 At 3 AM
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
All right, DB Super at 11:00. I didn't think that would happen. It'll be out of the movie recap arcs soon, which is the perfect time for a ratings increase. Whether that'll actually happen... well, I couldn't care less. -

Contrary to last week, I actually will post the ratings... for comedic purposes. Here they are. DB Super's ratings actually got worse when it was a premiere. Let that sink in for a moment. Now it's on to next week to see if that was a fluke, perhaps due to the DirecTV sort-of outages. -

I think it's doing fine if you compare it to Gundam. Really, the 2:00 hour, no matter what shows are in it (even One Piece), has been down for most of this year. You can watch this show on VRV, but that is not the end-all solution, especially since the Funi simulcast is two weeks behind (or three, if you're not subscribed). -

Live Action One Piece TV show coming from the producer of Prison Break

I don't know why this thread hasn't been active, but the SDCC panel is almost done and there are some news to report: The new TIE is... basically Intruder 4, but they're calling it Countdown. Coming this fall, in probably four or five chapters. There was actually another major announcement they wanted to do, but outside circumstances delayed it. Maybe it was about a future show. Aside from teasing Stardust Crusaders again, they aired the first episode for everyone to see, and it's actually on the stream this time. It should still be in its original airing as this gets posted, so head over there soon if you'd like to watch it! And they showed the FLCL trailer and played games. Overall, not a total waste. ::]::
