It's a little of both. Now, I'm not questioning the logic in rerunning this. A lot of people (me included) were actually expecting that to happen. On the other hand, this might be the first rerun near the top of the block that manages to air every episode.

a mini-essay on how gay Naruto is **spoilers**
Blatch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
That's not the reason. You know, I actually intentionally abstained from posting here because I didn't want the discussion to spiral out of control and start a fight. At least you've gone a while without up and doing it now, but you still could. -
That description for WorldEnd from the article doesn't sell how weird it is. The world the show takes place in consists almost entirely of anthropomorphic characters with no human features. One of a few exceptions is a troll maid that supposedly eats people. There's also a dog woman who I guess is some kind of cook, and she has a sentient smiley face as a co-worker. And in half of one episode, they break from the main story and talk about movies made by lizards. It's hilariously surreal, and this is before you get to the dramatic parts of the show, which is more of a "cute girls violently murder things and eventually get killed themselves" deal. I wouldn't call it underrated, but for a light novel adaption, it wasn't too bad.

My opinion on Kill la Kill is that the first half is pretty good, as I liked all the outrageous, schlocky fun it had... but then the writers made things more serious, and tried to cram in as many plot twists as they possibly could (most of which were pretty trite), which the show suffered for. It was still enjoyable up through the last few episodes, but that definitely put a hamper on things. As for the other Trigger shows, When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace is literally only remembered for the scene where Saori Hayami's character goes on a five-minute breaking rant at someone, which has some of the most insane overacting in any anime made in the past ten years. Basically, Trigger got upstaged by someone else, which is ironic.

It was more from a standpoint of Hidomi being the embodiment of teenage nihilism. I wondered if her parents and/or other adults in the FLCL world were going to be revealed as responsible for it, and the show would make the teenagers fight back to create a more just world. Basically, insert any anti-capitalism metaphor you want in there. I'm not as caring about same-sex relationships, but it seems like FLCL Alternative will at least offer a chance of that happening. There was a dude wearing a skirt, which seemed to indicate at least a more positive spin on subverting gender norms. But then the show revealed Mori to be a general dork and a loser who couldn't get a date, so he had to pay someone to act as his rental girlfriend. Also, Haruko announced she was leaving her job as a teacher (after becoming "pregnant") so she could become a housewife and settle for mediocrity, which is the wrong message to get out of that. Heh... this must be what we get for being one of the few developed countries in the whole world to not offer paid parental leave. But, then again, the original series had lots of sexual advances that would get #MeToo'd out of existence today, plus one character wearing a Nazi uniform. It's probably foolish to expect any thoughts more constructive than those.

Attack on Titan Season 3 in Theaters 7/10 and 7/11
Blatch replied to Meilag32's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
You know, DeMarco recently said they were going to announce the next Toonami show at Anime Expo, but legal issues came up and they had to "hold it". Maybe it would've come at the AoT panel. -
I'm not sure. At the very least, I think it's a good show, but probably not on par with the original. On the other hand, once I have some time to fully process its themes (which will definitely require a rewatch), I think I'll like it more and know how it stands up amongst the FLCL canon. Part of this is due to that the show ended up swerving in a different direction than I anticipated; I thought it was doing to be "progressive" in more ways than just the title, if you know what I mean, even though the original series arguably wasn't that political.

Like a sadistic game of limbo, Toonami's numbers get lower... although it still wins in the demographics. At this point, I don't have any honest idea why they still release the data.

Didn't Kadokawa intentionally leak an announcement for this to try and make people forget about the Kemono Friends scandal? That's probably all I'll ever think of it (and the franchise itself) from now on.

So Buu ended up leaving the boards over this? Honestly, I'm smitten. I feel like I wouldn't have openly commented about blocking them if I knew it'd make them upset. Still, considering how other people reacted, it probably wouldn't have made a difference.

Log Horizon S1E2 and S1E3 How to Keep a Mummy #5 On a related note, I like seeing other people blend viewings of simulcasts and such with older shows.

I actually thought it was "Do Your Best, Ide!", somehow getting the MHA episode's title (and Iida) mixed up with it.
-
Is it a more anime anime than Akame ga Kill!, or is that show still unmatched? And Promare, too. I feel like that's going to be the biggest hit, if only because of how long it's been since we first heard about it. You know how much people love their hot-blooded robot shows.

Actually, this is a recap episode. I have to wonder if we even need a thread for it.

jojos bizarre adventure DIAMOND IS UNBREAKABLE AUGUST 18TH ON TOONAMI

So if it comes, it'll probably be on the 11th. Well, AX has an Attack on Titan panel tomorrow, so why not announce it there? -
Dragon Ball Super Episode 70 Discussion
Blatch replied to Meilag32's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
This is another one of those episodes even the dedicated DB fans think is hilarious, so I'll make sure to tune in. And hey, at least Vegeta isn't the one being made fun of this time... so says one person in particular. -
Well, I guess I think it's reasonable that I'd remember what entire shows I've watched over a long period of time. On the other hand, some streaming services try to make it easier. Crunchyroll keeps track of every episode you watch while logged into an account, so if you're unsure as to if you've watched a show there, you can just go to the show page and it'll tell you if you started and/or which episode you left off on. And for the record, I'm also keeping a log of all the anime I'm watching this year, but that's something I wouldn't hold to anyone else. Some people genuinely don't care.

Poke had that one rated as TV-14 straight; I went with PGV. Either way, it ain't a gigantic deal. -
Okay, wow. That was not a warranted response. I've put you on ignore in turn. All of these people saying that they haven't watched anything at all since MAL went down seems stupid to me in a way that's too extreme to represent with mere words. Why the heck should anyone have to keep track of the shows they've watched? It feels too autistic even for me.
-
Well, that went by fast. If anyone wants to make a thread for discussing the rerun, I'll happily give it to you.

I didn't even think of new Attack on Titan replacing Dandy. They could probably move a bunch of shit down so the former can return on the 11th, in an interesting parallel of when the first season premiered. FLCL Progressive is definitely going to rerun, and I don't see those getting pulled or even moved down unless it's an insane bomb. It'd be stupid to shunt it to 2:30 only to bring the slot back up a month later to premiere Alternative.
