  1. And now, without further ado, here's the first reply. This is discussing Toonami for the week of June 30, 2018... FLCL Progressive (Offering you every single fetish under the sun, plus some surprisingly conservative politics.) Pop Team Epic (All it really needs is more Touhou references.) Dragon Ball Super (IMO, pretty much everyone was made a fool of in this episode, and I think Vegeta deserved it the most.) Hunter × Hunter (It's amazing how a one-off character voiced by LittleKuriboh wasn't even in the top three of crazy things to happen this week.) Lupin the Third, Part IV (Stop using the word "secrets" so much. It now could mean almost anything to me.) My Hero Academia (Once you hear Monica Rial's nasally voice, you might never be able to unassociate it from Tsuyu... or, in my case, Tomoko.) JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (An arc that revolved around video games ended up being one of the most boring in the show? Go figure.)
  2. Here's a tradition from a long time ago, back on the ASMB. Some dude with the username "CowboyBebop4Ever" would do a weekly series of threads (such as this one) where people could do a top ten of the anime to air that weekend. I've decided to bring it back in a more compressed form with this thread, because critical analysis is fun. On the other hand, I typically don't watch every show that airs on Toonami every time, so I just rank what I do, hence the more general thread name. Just for reference, or in case you're too lazy to click on another thread, the current Toonami schedule is below. Have fun.
  3. Oof... it turns out that removing DBZ Kai makes everything go down sooner. A year or two ago, My Hero Academia would've been trashed for not being the post-Dragon Ball "savior" to improve the ratings. But hey, very little Toonami has aired can do that, and the shows are still doing great in the demographics.
  4. The ASMB definitely isn't coming back, but if it did, I would happily rejoin. I was able to carve out a niche for myself alongside two or three other users to create a positive posting environment. It also helps that I'm not one to care about my post count, so it wouldn't be a big deal to start fresh.
  5. So you want them to pull a Kujibiki Unbalance and actually make the parody? Keep in mind, that show actually sold better than the second season of the series (Genshiken) it spun off from. I do think having a one-off Girldrop episode, let alone the actual show in its full length, would be great. Make it as an OVA for the next Poptepipic season.
  6. I don't think all of the jokes are like that. Heck, the very first segment of the entire show (as in, after the parody OP) had an obvious punchline. And then the Bob Epic Team segment at the end was a postmodern reversion of it, with infinitely worse animation. Another one I really liked was the your name. parody; it's one thing to actually reference the movie, but this show really sold it by having a faux-RADWIMPS track playing in the background. And then everything blew up.
  7. Wait, why is there a Mars symbol there? It doesn't look like they're a crossdresser, unless those boobs are actually breast padding. I'm going to assume she's just into dudes, rather than this being an inexplicable Himegoto reference. Megalo Box #13 (END)
  8. I'd like to answer a few questions about the show so far... First of all, the Bob Epic Team (or, as the weebs call it, Bobunemimi) segments have different voices from the rest of the episode. On the other hand, these voices are the same every time they appear. In the sub, they're played by the two guys from AC-bu, the sort-of company that actually animates the segments. But for the dub, you're going to be hearing Christopher Sabat and Ian Sinclair every time. The first episode has the "A" cast for Popuko and Pipimi voiced by two guys, while the "B" cast has a man for the former and a woman for the latter. Again, this is the same as how Japan did it. For every subsequent episode, the "A" cast is two ladies, and the "B" cast is two men. I'm surprised the French segment didn't get more attention, but that dude is not Thomas Romain; his name might be in the credits if you feel like scouting it out, and if not, it's definitely on the ANN encyclopedia. You're gonna be seeing more of him in future episodes, and his segments have the same layout as what was done here: the first play is untranslated, but the rerun is. Now, there are supposed to be two different EDs to go with the gendered casts, but they only played an edit of the female version, so that might be all we get. Both of them happen to be iDOLM@STER-themed, which tremendously pleases me. Additionally, Sumire Uesaka (Anastasia's seiyuu) sang in the Hoshiiro Girldrop parody, and you'll also hear her in the regular OP starting next week. There actually is a reason for why the the show repeats. It was originally going to be an 11-minute short, but the production committee apparently booked a full-length timeslot against the staff's wishes. Bkub Okawa, who created PPTP, suggested that they dub each episode over with different voices and play it right after the original version. This might explain why the anime was delayed from the Fall 2017 season to the start of this year. Finally, fidget spinners were more of a 2017 thing, but the anime was announced around the height of their popularity. The delay suggests that the joke involving them may have been serious, although with Bkub's irony-drenched style of humor, there's no way to really tell. I thought it was funny. This is probably way too much for anyone to type regarding this show, and I'm really only doing it for my own enjoyment. But if it does help you, that's okay.
  9. Not according to Crunchyroll.
  10. Eh, I'll put it back.
  11. Megalo Box #11 and #12 Girls' Last Tour #7 My Wife is the Student Council President #10 to #12 Be honest... did porn ruin my list?
  12. I think we need to stop acting like MAL is the end-all solution for an anime's popularity. I don't even know how much of the collective worldwide community uses it. I certainly don't, or at least not more than just barely.
  13. Honestly, I don't know how to gauge the show's popularity, but it comes from a combination of my own social media feed, interest articles about the show from other websites have generated, and fan art. There's quite a lot of works depicting characters from other shows as Popuko and Pipimi, and that has to account for something. Plus, a few scenes from the source material have become legitimate memes, such as the "Arrested for YouTube crimes" strip, and Popuko saying "I understand everything now." And as for the Tim & Eric point, I haven't seen any vocal defenders of the show in that vein. It's kind of ironic, too, as it goes against Bkub's own mentality that the manga/show doesn't care about what you think of it. Those two girls work in strange ways.
  14. Yeah... I think there's a valid argument to be made that Toonami should've aired a comedy that wasn't so baroque and "out there" as their first one. But PPTP is genuinely popular, which might act against that. I'm more concerned about DB Super entering comedic filler literally right as the new show premieres.
  15. I actually thought they'd go with rerunning Kai first, if only because it's more fresh; a late 2014 premiere vs. the start of 2017. Of course, I'm sure reruns of dubbed Super will bring in as many eyeballs.
  16. Yeah, I fucked up. Maybe you can delete it.
  17. If you live in a town that airs anything but sports on the bar TVs, I envy you. New Hampshire/northern Massachusetts is a graveyard when it comes to fine culture. Everyone's too busy getting drunk and yelling about when the next Patriots game is on. Hitherto, it's always sports, if not the local news.
  18. This is the kind of thread I would expect Mochi to make.
  19. So, just to have this on the record, I have a bad gut feeling that [adult swim] is going to completely gloss over this show when rating it and just slap a TV-MAL on every episode. I don't know how the SimulDub turned out, but I would assume it has at least moderate swearing ("shit", et al.) like Crunchyroll's version, which could warrant it.
  20. Everyone I know thinks the Arale episode is one of the best of the series... no irony. Of course, it's even better if you've actually watched/read Dr. Slump, so I'm expecting blank stares from most Toonami fans. Also, I would recommend that everyone put their Vegeta boners away for as long as this show isn't in serious territory. These episodes are funny, and if one character getting shat on is part of what makes them so great, then so be it. All of you, show some humility for once.
  21. Twitter will seemingly ban you even if you jokingly threaten someone. It can be nice to have less oversight, even if it means this place is a moderate shithole.
  22. The iDOLM@STER: Live for You! I also started a Squid Girl rewatch, as it's relevant to the news cycle.
  23. Uh... Poke's been fairly active today. Is this another case of just not wanting to do the schedule?
  24. I doubt Jason has any sort of input over the online stream.
