Toonami Memorial Day plans (what we know so far)
Blatch replied to brianycpht's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Super staying at 8 could be a side effect of whatever Toei wants from them. They very well could end up a week behind, which would not do the 11:30 airing any favors. ::HMM:: And Jack airing at 11:00 is probably just a side effect of how the schedule is managed, but I still expect a marathon of that whole new season to air on the day. -

There's now an audio-only version of Pre-Flight for those who want a more portable Toonami experience. Check it out here. -

Why would they think about continuing the streak after Jack ends? This is just a subversion of the razor because the show is popular enough. -

First of all, I think it should be obvious that Attack on Titan would be doing better if we weren't waiting two-and-a-half years for the new season, or four in general. And an 800K average isn't too bad compared to what JoJo's sometimes got. I'm sure they made the deal with Funi for it for a good price, or else they wouldn't have placed it so late. About DB Super... yeah, I guess it's just general viewer apathy along somewhat with the 8:00P airing. One thing I suppose they could try would be, after Jack ends, to move it later on. Swap the Dragon Ball shows, or maybe Super and AoT until the latter ends. Perhaps the best way to get more people to watch the other airing of Super would be to hook those who don't expect it at the beginning of the block. Gundam Unicorn is still available to stream subbed, but it was also on Crunchyroll with both the sub and dub. But most Toonami viewers aren't the kind of people who would willingly seek out those sources to watch a show. So maybe it just isn't catching on with the public? And while I do expect them to air Season 2 of Iron-Blooded Orphans, that very well could be it for Gundam on Toonami. At least I've heard people say that IBO's second season is superior, so the franchise would go out in a high note. Really, I'm not in any sort of panic, because I know genuinely awful things could happen at any moment. -

Having Samantha Bee do solid numbers in the hour before Toonami might have cannibalized it a little. And she probably made a few hypocritical jokes, but the populace enjoyed him. Aside from not wanting her kids to attend a desegregated school district, I can only wonder what other personal demons were on the table. Other than that, Toei ruins everything. And/or it was a down night in general. But summer vacation is coming up fast, so here's hoping for a bounce. -
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. it was... definitely a more eccentric film than the rest of the franchise. I liked the acting (Felicity Jones was pretty good), authentic of the resistance plot, and the general sense of grandeur as the story hopped between planets. Also, the cinematography and general direction were great and very slick. I much prefer the more basic flow of the movie to those annoying iris-outs and fade transitions of the older movies and The Force Awakens alike. Definitely an 8/10 movie, and I wish I had seen it in the theater.

It's really too bad that Aniplex felt the need to prevent Funi from renewing the license. This was the one DVD I got before it went out of print, and it's paying off for me nicely.

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I don't know what was up with that. Maybe they were running low on time for whatever reason and had to make a cut? But the omakes showed even while Sand Whale and Me ate up a bunch of time, so I don't know why they'd do it. This was a good night of shows, but as has become unfortunately common recently, I really faded out during the second half of shows. I need to rewatch Hunter because of this, since I didn't pay attention. -
JoJo's Bizarre Double Feature Discussion!!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
That has only a tangential relationship to the topic discussed. Though I will buy that nice-looking box set of the earlier Yes albums once I get enough money... and Amazon drops it to a low enough price. -
why did owlchemist not get this one right away he didn't even LIKE it What is going on? You have the show in your avatar and have been hyping it up more than anyone else on these boards, but when midnight arrives, you pass over making a thread for fucking GUNDAM. I don't get it. But yeah, enjoy the more Sasha-centric episode.

Yeah, I think it was a genuine error. And getting the first season of this show which they haven't had for years is kind of a big deal, so I'm sure you would have heard something from Toonami, DeMarco, or Sentai about it if this was the case. And they wouldn't just randomly plop it on the online stream those tech dudes dedicate almost zero thought to. Come on now.

I'm a fan of having Toonami air on Friday and Saturday. It'd be more extreme to implement than a split shift, but I'm sure they could make it work. Basically, Shonen Jump favorites on Friday, and the more adult and artsy-fartsy stuff on Saturday, so those picky eaters have an easier time watching the shows they like. Here's how I'd program it with the current lineup:
-
I really don't get airing it midway through the hour. Aside from being a fitting tribute to "Turner Time", you either DVR it or have a show you're watching get cut-off midway through the hour. Not to mention, [as] doesn't typically do this. [500th post]

So I guess the hot new opinion is that Toei, like Black Dynamite before it, ruins everything. Not bad. :poop: -
Your Toonami Streaming Schedule for the Weekend
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
So it's past noon on the east coast and the marathon stream is still playing the catch-up lineup from this weekend. Perhaps this has to do with the stream being down for an hour or two this morning, or it could just be that sense of crippling laziness from the people who run the stream. But at least you have another opportunity to catch up on Jack. That was a great episode. -
Basically. And there are shows that date back to before the Funiroll deal that might be in the pipeline. One title I guess we can consider as a benchmark is Kantai Collection: Winter 2015 simulcast, but it only just got announced by Funi last month and is coming out on home video in June. That's a gap of almost two-and-a-half years. So by that logic, we can expect news on Re:ZERO by... probably the middle of next year, at least.
