  1. To suggest I don't get busted every day indicates you don't know my penchant for impromptu exhibitionism
  2. I never went to one either. That is, until I finally went to one. Also, it's not just about pride. It's also about solidarity and being in a place where you can be comfortable to be yourself. If you can, get out there. Experience it at least once. I can think of many reasons to not be excited about pride parades, but more reasons to go nonetheless.
  3. Likewise, just because you arent good at it doesn't make video games harder by default. I find it to be the opposite rather. I've beaten more new games than I have old ones.
  4. My time in LA was for my thesis, scouting places where the cinephile character would go simply because of their use in his favorite films, so it was pretty touristy in its own way (though not many people flock to Koreatown to see/eat at a restaurant used in Chinatown). I stayed in a cheap and clean hostel in West Hollywood, and fell asleep to bucket drummers and a ripoff business that sold the idea of driving a Lambo and Ferrari to tourists by revving the engines, but some places/things that were cool: - People-watching in West Hollywood. Anywhere really, but there's a reason they're called Hollyweirdos. - Public transpo. Slightly limited by comparison to the size of the place, but very useful and cheap, and sometimes something odd and incredible happens. - Farmer's Market at The Grove - Look for "peephole cinema" installations. I found one in an alleyway behind a restaurant in Chinatown. It was playing an experimental film on loop. - Getty/LACMA/Museums in general. Also the Griffith Observatory. Barnsdall Art Park - Runyon Canyon. The kind of spot where lots of people go for a mild hike. Occasionally somebody famous is spotted during their morning run, but some cool sights at the top. - See a movie at New Beverly Cinema, at at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Some people don't advise walking around, but I enjoyed doing it. I walked from West Hollywood to Little Armenia to Koreatown, and just saw so much interesting stuff.
  5. I actually do decent at it. But even so, that's one example. Some people are great at rhythm games. Some people aren't.
  6. Probably just you. Could also just be specific styles of games too. So when you mention the altered combat dynamics of Final Fantasy, it's not so much you're bad at "new games," but you're not used to the contemporary mechanics of an old series.
  7. I reread The Phantom Tollbooth and immediately gifted my copy to my niece(s). I'm hoping they really get into it. <3
  8. I love Snow Country so much, and Kawabata's palm-of-the-hand stories (known more commonly now as flash fiction). If you get a chance, read Kawabata's final piece, in which he condenses Snow Country into a mere few pages. It's interesting to be able to compare the strengths and weaknesses of both forms.
  9. Nice!
  10. Having recently spent a few days in Maine, I can say with confidence that this incident does not surprise me one bit.

I do understand the significance of pepper spray's effects in an environment such as that, but it was also possible my silly string was anything else with a kid-friendly label slapped on it. TSA surprises. Sometimes it's a careless surprise, but occasionally anything goes in this strange world.

I accidentally forgot to remove the silly string in my carry-on once. Despite being flagged for an aerosol can and having it removed, they allowed me to take it on the plane. Now, there is a significant difference in terms of use as a weapon between those two things, but TSA occasionally surprises.
