  1. Hiding amongst the rules of this elevator pitch game. You might have found me had you read them.
  2. That the events are treated both with a flat delivery, with similar amounts of time, and in a single, fairly simple sentence structure, there is little need to differentiate emotionally between shooting and not shooting Bob's a cold motherfucker, man.
  3. That's really sweet.
  4. Bury me in the snow of your love

  8. Hello, and welcome to The Elevator Pitch Game! You might be thinking: What’s an elevator pitch? Often, when pitching ideas for a movie/screenplay, the writer has to be able to sum up the plot as quickly and as interestingly as possible, perhaps to test the inherent ability to market it to mass audiences. Similarly, my MFA advisor loves stressing the importance of being able to tell people what the primary event in your story is (preferably in one sentence), because once you have a clearly communicated idea, you’ll have a firmer idea of how to write it, even when you start to trail off or ramble in your narrative. So here’s how the game works: go to random word generator (found here: http://www.textfixer.com/tools/random-words.php), pick 3 words at random, and create one sentence from those words that outlines the basics of a story. This is also a helpful exercise for those of you creative folks who may be searching for an idea, for those of you who need an exercise to get into the swing of writing, or for those of you who struggle to discuss your stories simply. It’s also just entertaining as heck! Here are the three words I received: extract, diversion, drunken So I wrote: A new blend of cinnamon/lavender extract -- created by an artificial flavoring has-been -- assists in the redemption of his former glory, as well as a diversion from his alcoholism. Have at it!

  11. Just wait until he finds out I have a shock kink.
  12. This is a "What Are You Reading?" thread with an extra dynamic: What makes the book you're reading interesting to you? I just finished James M. Cain's Double Indemnity, and was interested by the complete absence of dialogue tags (he said, she said after spoken lines). It mostly worked and failed occasionally. I also liked the structure, which allowed this sort of order/chaos format to rest on the story's major crime, which took place in the near-exact middle of the book.
  13. L. Cohen was incredibly formative for me as a writer and musicIan. I dreaded his inevitable passing but was happy to see how far he made it. This album was an amazing addition to leave us with.
  14. Happy birthday!!
  15. Damn, I can't remember the last time a 20 hour a week job paid my rent. (Though, I'm still in the business of working toward a fulfilling career.)
