  1. Im not an immortal blob of goo nor a well potted blob of goo either. I feel like there is supposed to be a joke in here somewhere but I’m not getting it. As far as your twitter friend goes, I don’t give a damn what opinions someone with 39 followers has, and I’m not sure why anyone else would either. Best guess is they did not want to commit to this until it was absolutely unavoidable. They probably took a gamble on getting AoT by next week and it’s clear now that won’t happen. The week after though? I could see it being ready by then.
  2. So, it was you who was screaming doom at every little thing. So if this big thing has you unshaken, I’d say the meds are doing their job.
  3. I didn’t exactly tax my brain for a creative name. I’d imagine if you looked hard enough you could probably find other Toonamiguy321’s on other platforms because it’s about as generic as they come. Now, refresh my memory, aren’t you the guy that other users told to seek out mental help and medication about 6 months ago because any time Demarco farted you came here to make a panicked thread about how Toonami was for sure finished because of that? Did the meds work? Because burning off their biggest pickup of 2022 seems like a situation where it’s appropriate to be concerned about the future of the block.
  4. Damn dude, dial the aggression down a little. For starters, I have no idea who that is. Secondly, I agreed with your viewpoint on not being able to continuously double up MHA, I simply expanded on the inevitable results of them doing so, none of which are good. But hell, you seem to know it all. Please, enlighten the class on how burning off MHA is a good sign for the block.
  5. A good eye on their part, Zap2it was blank yesterday and has since been updated. This would explain why there has been no announcement, as this would mean 3/11 is no different than this week. That said, 3/18 still should have been out today. This is a very concerning course of action they are taking. MHA is their bread and butter right now, and doing this two weeks in a row makes it genuinely look like they are burning off their finite shows to heavily roll back Toonami’s hours, or possibly even pull the plug.
  6. Usually a Friday post would go up at noon. The other scheduled time for their posts is 8pm, so we will see in a few hours. At this point, they urgently need to get us 3/11, but now 3/18 is on the brink of being late too. So if they don’t announce two at once we will know they are still flying week to week. At this point, I think it’s pretty safe to assume they are flying as close to the ground as possible on AoT. They probably want it on air on 3/11 if possible. If they can’t do that, they will probably do double OP/Naruto at the last second. As for other content, it’s pretty hard to believe they have anything lined up. We are long past the point where a no date reveal would have made sense just to quell concerns among the fans. We have to wonder if Zaslav has put an ultimatum on Toonami, or if the industry has turned its back on the block. I think it’s worth pointing out the the latest sustaining promo (that now has two out of date shows), lists the block start time of 12a, but unlike promos of the past, doesnt give an end hour. If we end up with an even shorter block soon I wouldn’t be surprised at all.
  7. Easy, the same way Velma is getting a S2. They took the initial batch of episodes, cut it in half, and are marketing the second half as a second season so it makes the show not look like the huge mistake everyone said it was. Once those air, it will be quietly cancelled.
  8. It’s been nearly a year and I’m still steaming that I sat through an entire episode of Birdgirl and didn’t even catch the ONE edit in the episode because it was so quick and decently hidden. I give them a pass on 2020. April 1 was peak Covid mania, so the fact that they rolled anything at all out was commendable. I’m sure Post and pals had recorded all that months prior but still. At least they actually did something. I doubt he charged a fortune but Post is pretty prominent these days, cashing in a favor or whatever they did to get him there made it seem like they cared. And Post had a couple good one liners about some of the shows. 21 and 22 felt like AS tasked interns with the job a week beforehand. I’m actually glad R&M is a hot button right now because just maybe they will do a prank that doesn’t heavily revolve around it.
  9. Thanks to the block cuts, Toonami itself should not fall within the missing DST hour. So the lost hour is just going to be whatever airs right after Toonami. Yea, since seeing this news I’m thinking that’s the answer. Would somewhat explain the stalling if they were waiting on Sentai to get it moving, and we know Demarco just can’t resist falling back on something familiar. Made in Abyss S2 first dubbed episode dropped on Sept 1 2022. Toonami got it the first week of November. So if we did get this, we would only be about a month behind Sentai. If it’s the ONLY pickup, I agree it’s a bad idea. I’m really tired of them refusing to branch outside of titles/creators that they know. This block desperately needs some spice. But if it’s one of two pickups and the other isn’t super predictable I don’t mind it as much.
  10. Just thought this was interesting. Despite the roughly 730k people who follow Toonami on Facebook, it’s post usually don’t see much engagement. A high end topical post is around 1k likes, and maybe 10 comments from the same people who feel obligated to comment something meaningless to every post just to engage with it. Average like numbers are more like 500 or so. But check out how the first trailer for the One Piece special is doing. 83k likes and climbing, 6.9k comments (nice!) and 25.5k shares? That’s nearly a years worth of Toonami Facebook engagement on ONE post. Hopefully some of these people actually bother tuning in for it, but if nothing else this has reminded a lot of people that Toonami still exists.
  11. I don’t even think nu-AS wants to do April Fools at all anymore. The last two years have been shameful. 2021 was 45 minutes of kid voiced shows where they only really tried on Aqua Teen, and last year I think was 5 total minutes of Pibby edits. They are probably glad Toonami is outside the April Fools window because that means not having to think something up Toonami specific. Since Royal Crackers premiers on April 2nd, I have a feeling the prank will somehow be associated with that
  12. Nothing. Toonami technically isn’t on Saturday as it starts at midnight Sunday. When Toonami starts, it’s April 2nd. Only way Toonami would be in the zone for a prank is if the upcoming schedule shifts the block to 11:30 or earlier. I believe the next time Toonami falls on April Fools is 2029. So, we are likely never seeing a prank for the block again.
  13. This is promotion for a 10 year old crossover special for a show that hasn’t been on the air in 7. Yea there are better places to promote stuff, but this ain’t something worth promoting beyond insomniacs on television. Per Demarco everything they have aired on AS Toonami has been something they at least marginally liked themselves. He has admitted outright if he does not like a show he won’t bother with it regardless of fan demand. Maybe they didn’t love every show, but there was never one they hated. I thought they needed an anime research intern back in 2016 when they started saying they preferred long running shonen because it meant they had to do less work researching shows. The whole staff has always been oblivious to modern trends and they really would have benefited from someone with a younger viewpoint on the show selection team. Unfortunately, you are correct that it’s far too late to enlist someone for the job. This is a problematic way to run the block though. They can’t just blow their load on one show and leave the block in an awkward holding pattern for months at a time. It’s not even an effective tactic for preserving ratings based on the ups and downs we have seen with MHA. If they really are doing this, maybe it’s time to have a talk about dialing the block down to 2 hours so at the very least they can consistently deliver and not have us in holding patterns every few months. When was that mentioned? November? At this point they should know what kind of extra time they need to budget to get things done. Online schedules are blank, so they haven’t made any commitments yet. But I do agree they have now waited too long to start a show and will likely keep stalling till it’s ready. Which a conservative estimate would mean new show announcements would be late March/early April
  14. I think I have said it before, but if the block is already in budget crisis in February, that’s a more damning statement for the future than anything else. If that’s the reality of the situation, all we should expect is to bounce between originals, with all in between time being like it is now. And it will never improve. We only have one side of the story to that claim. For all we know “failure to communicate” is Demarco calling them one time and never bothering again. Somehow they made Made in Abyss happen fast last January, then nailed down S2 before it’s dub even finished releasing. I have a strong feeling the lack of Sentai shows has been a failure to communicate on both sides, primarily because Sentai didn’t have anything Demarco was motivated to pick up. This is an interesting breakdown, but not something the average viewer cares about. Very few people were waiting for the next dub premier confirmation, but rather just new shows. Similarly, while the OP special is interesting, a single week premier for one episode from 2013 isn’t getting that many people excited, especially since we still have no shows announced for the following week. I don’t think Toei is that eager. Rather, they just use the block for promoting stuff when it’s convenient to them. We are still looking at OP running single episodes per week after this special. If Toei was a true ally we could rely on, they would set us up with the material to go back to 2x episodes. The fact that we dropped down to 1 per week at all proves Toei is only willing to help Toonami out to the extent their budget can buy help, which ain’t much.
  15. Concerningly, no schedule update for 3/11. So presumably they still have no news show and don’t even know what stall method they want to roll out.
  16. The actual series doesn’t look like that. It has a very unique style. The special, for reasons I’ll never understand, tossed out that unique style and replaced it with a very generic anime parody style.
  17. After Rubicon aired last night, the Facebook page reminded people about the Toonami rerun, but for some reason they made an entirely new graphic that cuts off the Rick and Morty short
  18. She was 16. Japan’s AoC laws are pretty confusing, even more so back in 2002. Interestingly, just 5 days ago did Japan put forward a piece of legislation to official raise the AoC from a near global low of 13 up to 18. This is more of a symbolic move, as most prefectures had already elevated the AoC to 18. But there were still some fringe circumstances where you could use the old law to get away with 13. 16 was not that out of the ordinary in 2002. But it’s when Japan was starting to kind of half ass changes due to rising western pressure to do so, and Toriko’s author was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
  19. What Toriko’s creator did is hard to even view as a sex crime. He visited a prostitute at a time in Japan where they were just starting to properly crack down on prostitution. It’s widely believed that him as well as a few other minor celebrities at the time were made an example of, rather than committing an actual serious offense. And that’s further supported by the fact that Toriko exists. His active series at the time was cancelled in response to his charges, but not long after he was back to a premium slot in Jump, so they probably thought he got a raw deal too. Im of the opinion that Toriko is at best, bland garbage, and I’m not familiar with his other works, so I’m not here trying to defend my favorite show/creator. I’m just pointing out that sometimes it feels like if people are not angry, they will dig something up until they have a reason to be angry.
  20. Mate, that happened in 2002. 21 years ago. I could see if it was something recent, but people gotta learn to let this stuff go. Mike Tyson is a sex offender too, and AS gave him his own show. It’s not like this is going to do the creator any favors anyway. It’s a silly crossover episode for a show I’d wager at least half the Toonami audience doesn’t even know exists. And the half that does know it exists thinks it’s trash.
  21. I had no idea that we were able to edit our own thread titles here I know they don’t care about optics, but I hate that they insist on consistently doing the wrong things just because they have always done things wrong. It would quell some worries if they would just drop a title. Though to do that, they actually need a show secured. Which I’m still skeptical of being the case.
  22. I’m a little worried about this as well. It definitely feels like they are keeping the block on stall mode until AoT is ready to air. They have started shows them had them take a week off right away before, I see no reason to be afraid of doing that here. AoT wouldn’t even take up the entire night, so if they could at least get one show started it shouldn’t face any interruptions. With the current hiccups with dubs, I don’t see AoT getting turned around by the 11th. So that would mean the majority of March would also be stalling. At this point, I’d be fine with them just announcing new shows, but not giving a date. They have had enough time, they should at least have something secured.
  23. Thankfully it actually looks like Venture Brothers. I was pretty worried after seeing how atrociously off model Ballmastrz Rubicon is.
  24. Likely, if for no other reason, there is a limited amount of times they can do this with MHA. I doubt they want a repeat of Yashahime S1 where they burn through months worth of content in a few weeks. I’d have a hard time believing it considering they are having so much trouble landing even second rate shows. Plus, if they did have something to air ASAP, there’s no reason MHA can’t move to 12:30. In the old days, Toonami usually shot for a solid first hour, not just first slot. Stop spying on me in my house.
  25. It’s a strange scenario for sure. I highly doubt Toonami cashed in a favor with Toei to get a single oddball episode dubbed. Toei likely did it just for completions sake and threw a bone to Toonami as a bonus. Toei promoted this on their twitter almost immediately after Toonami put their schedule up, further supporting it’s a little gimmick thing Toei is doing that Toonami can coast on for a week as a bonus. What is getting a little overshadowed here is that they are doubling up MHA. Normally they would move the heavens to prevent a premium lead show from being exhausted any faster. Even if (for now) it’s only for one week, it’s troubling they are doing that.
