Man, this seems like the end for Toonami. Not that it will be cancelled, but instead it’s just going to be a dumping ground for western reruns and the occasional original. One Piece and Naruto will always bring up the rear. I know some people are all in on Toonami having western content, but there also quite a few like myself who are here for the anime, and if the block isn’t airing anime I’ll just take a hiatus until it does again. One Piece and Naruto are just the extra experience for the other shows, I’m not invested enough into either to tune in for them on their own.

Bro what, Adult Swim needs less time to fill, not more. They still only have Royal Crackers on deck, and Bobs Burgers is still on its way out. What are they gonna do with an extra hour? More Fox reruns? Then we have Unicorn Warriors, which would actually make sense for that early hour, getting dumped at midnight. Can we at least move Toonami to 11-2 so I can get to bed earlier?

IMO people aren’t crapping on the show or Genndy. They are crapping on CN hitting the abort button for something that was pretty well sanitized for their network. Not everything has to be edgy, adult action animation. People were enthusiastic for CN to move forward on a PG action title after so many years of having no action content. It ain’t no Demon Slayer, but a PG show is a pretty big step up from the typical Gumball and TTGo fare on CN. But instead, it’s getting dumped at midnight on a Thursday, basically a death sentence and guarantee of failure. At the very least, they could have met some middle ground and aired it at like 9pm so kids could catch it before bed on a school night. On the Toonami side, fans of the block are upset at the prospect of its reruns eating up the most valuable slot on the block, further frustration to an already unstable and unstocked block. There is a lot of lingering frustration tied to Genndy content because of what’s happened with Primal S2.

Well they aren’t doing a very good job, because if this airs on Toonami, it is in fact another rerun. You are right though, this one is probably out of Demarco’s hands. But that’s not a reason to withhold negative feelings towards the schedule team if they really did force Toonami to burn off probably it’s biggest pickup of last and this year just so they could cram on another mid Genndy rerun. It also shows a growing disregard for the blocks future if we continue to see less and less acquisitions and instead just getting sloppy second reruns and originals people have zero faith in. You could make the argument that Toonami is “saving money”, but for what? We have been “saving money” since February. When do we get our payoff? Until less than 24 hours ago, this was presumed to be a Cartoon Network show. More specifically, it’s slightly looser content Acme block. I highly doubt the show went through any radical changes for its shift to Adult Swim. Interviews with Genndy cite it being a family friendly adventure. I’d expect this to be more in line with CN era Samurai Jack where the enemies are robots are some other inoffensive non red blood creature. Same with the language, maybe it will pull a PG-13 movie gimmick where someone says shit one time, but other than that I expect clean dialog.

That’s a major assumption. This is an untested show, Primal did well because people already liked Primal. For all we know this will crater the entire night at midnight since it was created for CN, not AS. I can’t see a scenario where 2/6 slots on the block being reruns is going to be helpful, both to ratings and morale. If nothing has changed, it won’t have seasons. This is supposed to be a 10 episode miniseries.

I wouldn’t pay it any mind if it was treated according to its status. A rerun should not get the red carpet midnight slot treatment. It should get the 2:30a treatment. All this means for us is 10 (or more) weeks without a new show. And there’s no point in watching it, because we all know AS will beat the piss out of the rerun as they are doing to Primal. Even if it ends up not being the lead, that’s annoying too if it goes at 12:30, because that means having to find something else to do for 30 minutes before the block comes back. I wouldn’t call this a sequel to 2022, because at least last year we had a pretty solid January. So far this year has sucked ass on the acquisition front and shown no real signs of improvement any time soon.

Think this could have been part of the April Fools prank for this year that escaped a little early? This would make a lot more sense to have seen after a Post Malone style sneak peak of an episode rather than out of the blue during KotH. Would also explain why AS is so quickly smashing the DMCA button. I have three issues with it. One, the show was created for Cartoon Network. We already struggle with half the block being shonen that barely clears the AS bar. Second, they are once again seemingly bowing to Genndy’s absurd hatred of Toonami and premiering the show on a Thursday, rather than just premiering it on Toonami. Lastly, it’s looking like the reason they burned off a hard fought pickup in MHA was to replace it with a rerun. This is the one the rubs me wrong the worst of all. They made it look like there is some grand plan in the works and it’s actually nothing. I know, I’m making a lot of assumptions here about it coming to the block, but all the signs we saw with Primal S2 are present here. And if MHA doubles up on the 15th, and AoT takes the following weekend, that leaves just one unaccounted for weekend before May 6th when this would presumably start.

Oh great, now there will two eternal Genndy shows eating up space on Toonami. And I’m sure despite premiering outside the block, for some reason it’s also going to have to do a full rerun at midnight on Toonami.

I could see that this year. I feel like Friday/Saturday years they try a little harder since more people will tune in since they don’t have work the next day. Another thing I could see them doing on the first before Toonami starts is having all the comedy shows before Toonami starts run with proper Toonami bumpers, complete with TOM and Sara quips about the shows. Maybe even tailoring the episodes to ones with “action” scenes for the bumps, like the KotH episode where Bill steals the tank

Some years they have done the night of the 31st and the pre midnight of the 1st, but never in history have they not done something on the night of the 31st. They have also never had a prank leak into April 2 before, so the actual Toonami part of Saturday isn’t going to see anything happen, as when TOM walks down the hallway it’s officially April 2. The hours before Toonami are fair game though, and there is certainly the possibility they get changed into Toonami for some kind of prank.

So I have been kicking this around in my head all day, I’m still team Venture Bros movie prank, but do we think they may try to wedge in something for FLCL as well? I know, Toonami is narrowly outside the prank window this year, but anime projects are still AS originals and don’t necessarily have to be married to Toonami. Im considering it because it’s kinda been full on radio silence on the FLCL projects, despite both allegedly being on deck for this year. And we have this bizarre MHA burnoff going on, that would conveniently potentially allow a Grunge premier a few weeks after pranking with it. Imagine it, 11:30pm on Saturday, TOM walks in without a word, and pops in the first episode of Grunge subbed. Midnight rolls around, TOM makes a quip about how it’s the first time he has seen the audience in a week and MHA rolls on like any other night. Realistic? Or are my Sunday idle thoughts too ambitious?

We are on the home stretch to April Fools, whatever they are doing is going to happen on Friday night. Guides are showing a 2 hour block of Aqua Teen at midnight, so it seems whatever they are doing is gonna be another short one. What’s everyone guesses? Think they will do anything with the comedy shows before Toonami? I have been seeing discussion that certain people have gotten a screening of the Venture Brothers movie and it’s complete. Just airing it outright wouldn’t be much of a prank, but I have a good feeling the Venture Brothers audience will be the butt of the joke this year.

I’m over here trying to figure out where Progressive and Alternative are. Like, we gotta be getting close to Grunge. Are they just planning to never rerun those two ever? Yes, they were terrible, but something being bad has never been how AS decides whether or not to rerun it, otherwise [insert your favorite show here] never would have got a rerun! Waka waka!

Can we reach lucky number 7? Can the audience maintain their sanity knowing there is another Primal loop incoming?

Adult Swim was 100% OK ignoring all that stuff and pretending it didn’t happen. The entire reason they cut ties with him was because of mounting pressure that was triggered by the formal charges. And now that the charges are dropped, the legitimacy of all claims against him will come into question. This whole debacle is going to be more entertaining to watch than the average R&M episode in recent years. I have no doubt AS will try to get him back since they need him, but Roiland will be able to ask for the world in return, and weaponize the fanbase if he doesn’t get it.

So we know for certain Crunchyroll is already in the process of getting it ready. I could absolutely see a 4/9 release on CR after a 4/8 premier on Toonami. That’s roughly the 5 weeks we are accustomed to seeing. Conveniently, that’s also the week Primal will be gone. So something like 12a - Attack on Titan 1:30a - Food Wars 2a - One Piece 2:30a - Naruto If we really luck out, the bottom half of the schedule can just stay that way for good, and on 4/15 they start a new show at 1a. Then a few weeks later, MHA is done and they can move forward with whatever they had planned for the first hour that justified a MHA burnoff.

Maybe I’m reading the wiki wrong or the screenshot I got off Zap2it uses the wrong numbers, but the way I see it, our last episode on Saturday was 17, The Wrong Way to Put out a Fire. That means this Saturday, 3/25, is 18 and 19, Izuku Midoriya & Tomura Shigaraki followed by Full Power!!! Then, 4/1, as is shown in the OP, is 20 and 21, Hired Gun and The Lovely Lady Nagant. That leaves 22, 23, 24 and 25 unaccounted for, and if both weeks double up, puts the end date on the 15th.

Did I count wrong? I figured it would be more like 4/1 - 20/21 4/8 - 22/23 4/15 - 24/25 When it comes to Titan, I don’t think Grunge will be a factor. Titan airs when it needs to air, regardless of anything else. It will for sure air in April, just a matter of when. The simplest method would be airing it on the 22nd with 2 open slots and preempting one other show. But that all depends on when the dub drops. CR could have it done as early as the 8th. Another factor to consider, unless Primal is looping again, they need to release an official schedule update sometime this week for the 8th since Primal will be over. If they are willing to bump OP and Naruto down for a week or two, OP could double up for 1-2 weeks and give them an easy 3rd slot to use for AoT.

I feel the same. I really wanted to like this, but I can count on one hand times that actually got a smile out of me. The first half of the movie was painfully boring, and the second half was barely better. No matter how you slice it, Aqua Teen just can’t work for more than 11 minutes at a time. I had wondered why I saw almost pure negativity from people who watched it at release. I figured they were just being too harsh, but I get it now. I definitely would not have been happy having paid money to watch this. And a random side question, am I the only one who thinks Markula sounds way different? I first noticed it in Aqua Donk.

It’s a 25 episode season, that means 2 more potential double up weeks for 22-25. Unless AoT is seeing a major slowdown, I think that’s too far away to finish MHA and then use the two open slots for AoT. So what could the game plan be?

You ever second guess requesting a show for the block, purely because it would be absolutely criminal to cut its OP or ED? This is definitely one of those shows.

Just average iirc. Pulled it’s weight but also didn’t have any impressive nights. It’s probably still a longshot, but I don’t think Akiba Maid War is entirely impossible just because it’s the hot new toy right now and is getting a lot of requests, especially since Demarco narrowed the window down to Sentai stuff only. At a time many years ago, Sentai did want Princess Principal on the block. If the desire is still there on their end, Demarco shouldn’t have to work too hard to talk them out of it. I do see it come up periodically when the discussion of Sentai content comes up, so it has some level of demand.

I just don’t think it’s a fair comparison outside of the video game aspect. SAO is more focused on the combat and action element, while Log Horizon is more, as you put it, cerebral. If you go into LH with a mindset that it’s going to be similar to SAO, yea you are going to be very let down. I don’t dislike LH, but I don’t think it’s right fit for holding the average Toonami viewers attention, especially since a lot of them are going to go into it with that wrong mindset. Big O would just be a waste. With their funding troubles as bad as they are, they can’t spare a penny for a rerun. If Sentai has their catalog open for Toonami to look at, it would be foolish to waste that opportunity getting something they already aired.
