  1. This happens a lot. I feel like the team in charge of promos is entirely separate from the team who schedules. They had to make a late promo this week and obviously did not get the memo that it’s not at midnight this week. And you never know, they may do this intentionally to try to salvage viewership for the night.
  2. My ears picked up on it the first couple of times the commercial for it aired. It’s super rare to hear her outside of Naruto so I was skeptical but there was just no one else it could be. Has there been a full cast list reveal? I’m interested in which other voices I should be listening for. I know Stephanie Sheh is the executive girl at the office, but I’m so used to her Hinata/Orihimie voice I may not have picked up on it.
  3. Seems kind of boneheaded if that’s the case. As much as we bemoan Primal reruns, I don’t think swapping in a different rerun would really change anything performance wise. Dropping their most powerful lead slot asset nearly 2 months early just to do a rerun no one will care about isn’t a good use of their limited resources. Titan mania ended quite a few years ago. I can’t see there being much of a weeknight audience for that, for like 80 straight weeknights. It’s novel to watch things once a week on Toonami, it gets much harder to sell vs streaming when you ask people to dedicate daily time to something.
  4. They would if they marketed that way. Give it a mascot, Steve the Stellar Starfish, he loves watching all of Disney’s wonderful properties in a pineapple under the sea. Disney has the power to do something like that. WB, not so much. And that makes this come off as yet another thoughtless rebrand.
  5. Wubalubadubdub Morty-sama. I have invented the waifu beater 9000.
  6. I just don’t see a point in adding extra time when they are still struggling to just fill the time we have. We still don’t have a replacement for a show that ended in February, and we have a seemingly permanent loop of a rerun in the last slot. A bump to 11-2 benefits the entire block by getting every show to a more reasonable hour. Let’s start there, see if we can do better with the 3 hours we have, and if that goes well and if they have the budget for it, add more time.
  7. Had a good laugh at that Food Wars crater as we enter the meat of why this season is considered so terrible. It’s pretty rare to see a middle of the block show crash like that with a big recovery into the rest of the night. We have a big schedule shift coming up soon, and with AS grabbing another hour at the same time, I’m really pulling hard for the block to shift to 11-2. If AS thinks lead slot reruns are a good choice for the block, I’d like to see them put some skin in the game by putting the block at 11. If things nosedive, maybe get us some new shows instead of Genndy’s sloppy seconds.
  8. I considered this, if OP doubled up soon, we would be at the end of Punk Hazard in 2 months. But that said, a big criticism last year was being months into Punk Hazard and still running Fishman Island bumps. The ones from last night fit the two arcs better though, Dressrosa has a lot of stuff from the current arc bleed over. Naruto really threw me off though, even if we doubled up next week and it had no interruptions for the rest of the year, I don’t think we would reach that fight between Naruto and Sauske. I probably wouldn’t have even given this matter much thought without that particular one.
  9. So last night, it seems they refreshed the bumpers for OP and Naruto. But am I the only one who feels like they went abnormally far ahead for the footage? One OP one looks like Doffy in early Dressrosa, or at the very least tail end of Punk Hazard, while the other prominently showed Momonoske, whose human form was intentionally obscured in his intro episode. Naruto is even stranger, one is from the Itachi filler which is roughly 15 weeks away, and the other is the final Naruto vs Sauske fight, which I’m pretty sure we are at least 40 episodes away from. That’s a post war fight, we haven’t even had Kaguya show up properly yet. It’s not out of the ordinary to see them use footage from further out for bumpers, like one of the old OP ones with Zoro carrying Tashigi hasn’t even aired yet, but was I the only one who felt like they reached forward much further than usual?
  10. I think the Futurama is new. Probably a preemptive change for the May expansion. Superman is airing during the Sunday movie night on CN. However, since it bleeds over into the 8pm hour, it messes up the website schedule. Adult Swim will simply start late at 8:30 that night
  11. Didnt the justice department approve the merger in the first place? I don’t think this will going anywhere
  12. Hopefully, this is the last week I need to do this and Toonami actually makes something Facebook official before next Saturday. As expected, we lead with a rerun of 24, followed by a premier of 25, the season finale.
  13. I’d get this if CN had a decent spread of content, but they don’t. If Teen Titans Go isn’t on, Gumball is. And now and then Craig is on. How is that commanding 68% of the audience over 18? I think the kid demographic is simply a lost cause at this point, and maybe it’s time to reevaluate how to better pursue this unintended audience Batwheels is even more confusing to me. Normally I don’t even think about Cartoonito, but what is that show doing to command such a strong adult audience? My most sensible theory is 29 is a pretty common age for having kids, so new parents put it on for their kid. Do these statistics even have a way to measure toddler engagement?
  14. Hmm, must vary depending on provider, I was watching Battlebots too and didn’t see any Royal Crackers ads. A few months ago though, I do remember seeing a Yolo ad during Battlebots. So I’m not surprised at all that this show is getting the cross network treatment too.
  15. I wish they got either of those because both are genuinely quality content. The twitter outrage for them is simply a bonus.
  16. Every single time Toonami has an oddball schedule, I see people scream and shout in confusion about why things aren’t how they normally are. And that’s when Toonami actually advertises it. I don’t understand why so many people are entirely helpless in this day and age, but they are. A huge portion of the audience seems to only know the schedule up to the slot currently airing. It was a big marketing blunder to not advertise MHA running for an hour for 2 months. I don’t know why they wasted an opportunity for that. Especially now seeing that report that MHA is credited with pumping the blocks numbers in recent months. Easily would have been more with promotion. It’s a little old, but guides and such did exist back then. Here’s a classic compilation of Tumblr users baffled at why AoT didn’t air one week. Never underestimate how dumb people can be.
  17. A shame we will never actually know, at least for its Toonami run, since no one reports rerun numbers anymore. Best we can do I make assumptions based on how shows after it do, and really that only works when something does abysmal. That’s not what I meant. I see this as one of those shows where we occasionally see Superman do Superman things, but then we pivot back to slice of life romcom stuff. The leaked episode script further supports it will be this way. A good thing to compare it with is Fena. The promotional material shows nothing but action, then the actual final product is boring romance dreck.
  18. Am I the only one who gets a vibe it’s not gonna have that much action? Even the title implies it, this isn’t a Superman show. The main character is the girl, Superman is just supporting cast.
  19. I don’t think any others compete. Sure, from an effort standpoint, 2012 and 2018 are by far the best. But neither of those were really haha pranks. The farts was just pure comedy gold, and there was no telling when the next one was coming. Some of the ones in FMA had me gasping for air.
  20. Honestly, the chunk of episode they chose for the prank wasn’t great. Kinda a slow start to set up the cast. Necessary, but not a great teaser. I enjoyed the rest and had a few laughs in each episode. It’s a show I’ll remember to catch on Sundays. I think AS is putting too much burden on its shoulders, they seem to expect it to stand hand in hand with Fox content right out of the gate, which is just unreasonable. Given some time, I think at the very least Theo will go down as one of the networks more amusing characters. As for the ratings, I just believe the potential for a prank may have lured some lapsed viewers back for the night. Nothing groundbreaking, especially since we saw comparable numbers about a month ago, but definitely some non regular traffic. The fact that it’s not advertised is the reason for that. You gotta be there to catch an AS prank. They may have advertised one, but you just can never be sure if that second one is coming. And hey, we did end up getting a little nod to 2012, so if you turned out you got something. You could even argue that the fact that they chose a clip that prominently displays Toriko for the little montage could be tiny prank of its own.
  21. I’ll bet the block also saw a bump from people tuning in expecting a prank. A lot of people don’t seem to grasp the timing on AS pranks. Adult Swim put a ton of stock into Royal Crackers, so I’ll bet there is some major disappointment in its mediocre start. They have its reruns peppered all over the schedule which will likely cause rapid fatigue in it. I enjoyed it for what it was, but AS seems to think it can be one of their new tentpoles.
  22. Did I hear someone say a beloved project wasn’t cancelled?
  23. They had no money back then. They had to try incredibly hard to make things genuinely entertaining to cover up the fact that the shows were created with pocket change. Once they got the money, they started half assing everything. And honestly, say what you will about him, but Lazzo was the glue holding everything together. He had a pulse on what was a good idea and what was a bad idea. He could be a jackass at times, but he still knew what was best for the network and wasn’t afraid to turn away crap ideas. He didn’t mince words for why Birdgirl shouldn’t be made, and as soon as he leaves they move forward with it, and we find out he was 100% right.
  24. Unfortunately, another absolute stinker of a year. They didn’t even try past the 30 minute mark. I wonder if they had planned something with Rick and Morty, but had abort at the last second and didn’t have the time to replace it with anything. Ah well, maybe something tomorrow night for the Toonami crowd.
  25. The MHA double up continues, but we will NOT finish the season on 4/15. Instead, episode 23 will rerun in the lead slot, followed by the premier of episode 24. Presumably, this will repeat the following week. 24 reruns, then 25 airs the finale. Then, the 29th we get AoT, and the week after that is when Genndy’s rerun starts. It’s premiering on Thursday with 2 episodes, so that covers both slots for that week.
