  1. https://twitter.com/WBDAdSales/status/1658118491776380931 I assume HBO Max changing into Max will dominate the discussion this year, and most creators won’t be showing up because of the strike, but maybe if we are lucky they will have something related to Adult Swim to talk about.
  2. Someone pointed out that Crunchyroll dropped the Witch from Mercury dub without a word, and he made a quip about if HE got it, Toonami would have made a big deal about it. And remember, this is the same guy who just tossed Dr Stone S3 announcement on Facebook without a word making everyone think it was a mistaken reveal. But he totes would have done better for Gundam, promise.
  3. She was a stripper, they will probably just have a one night stand and return to the status quo. If it comes up, Theo will probably make a quip about how rockstars don’t get tied down. I thought for a second the two executives would hook up too but they didn’t, likely to not be something the writing staff has to deal with later. And they did air a promo, it was just much later in the night. Seems like Matt got called into a private meeting with someone else in the company and the rest of them want to know what happened.
  4. Even if it could, Demarco publicly talked shit to Crunchyroll for not allowing them to air it. That’s not the way you convince an already hostile company to share a successful product with you.
  5. Because we waited a LONG time for this announcement, and after all the stalling to have it end up being something that surprises no one is kind of a letdown. Is Dr Stone a bad pickup? Absolutely not. It just came at a time where it can’t possibly live up to the unintended hype Demarco has been building up around it. A lot of us occasionally want to be able to say “wow, I can’t believe Toonami is airing THAT” but we rarely get the chance. As we saw right here, they would rather stall for months waiting for a sequel rather than give something fresh a chance.
  6. I’m just at a loss for acquisition possibilities that would have this much involved labor on the Japan side. Like I said in the OP, maybe Bleach? Not because Viz isn’t cooperative, but because so many fingers are in that pie. Just nothing else really sticks out as meeting two criteria. 1, something that would require direct involvement from the Japanese side, and 2, something Demarco would actually be interested in. If he hadn’t shot down Gundam, I’d be certain it was that. I guess under super longshot idea could be a world premiere project like we got with Space Dandy. I don’t think a deal like that would go down in 2023, but it fits with what we know. Not an original, but something Toonami gets first rights to.
  7. “Tied up” isnt well defined. It could be a contract or legal issue giving them trouble, or it could be a production issue. We know for a fact that the FLCL seasons are being worked on in Japan. It absolutely can be a production issue that is preventing them from making an announcement. Remember, they are supposed to air this year, and half of it is already gone. They have to be announced soon to fit into 2023. Even sooner if Uzumaki actually makes the cut this year.
  8. IMO this choice will boil down to their long term plans. If they don’t have a 2 and half year plan for Toonami, it doesn’t make much sense to start Dressrosa. If they do, it will stay.
  9. Nothing else makes sense to be this tied up on the Japanese side. An issue that in 11 years of this block we have never seen. The only acquired show I could see it for would be Witch from Mercury, but Demarco already told people that wasn’t happening.
  10. I could see it leaving it they are afraid of Dressrosa. If we stay at one episode per week, by the time we finish Shippuden, we won’t even be halfway through Dressrosa. I find that hard to believe. 150 episode is a gigantic risk. We know from Boruto that they got 52 episodes, I think it’s safe to assume they did the same with OP, or they just bought entire arc sized chunks as a trial run. Now the incoming issue they have is Dressrosa is 2x the size, so if they did buy by the arc, that might make them a little nervous.
  11. It’s been a filler show since the day it came back. They just aren’t using it to fill as much time now. I believe 13 more weeks, not accounting for marathon delays
  12. I’ll be pretty surprised if the show isn’t one of the FLCL seasons. I don’t think this is a case of “grrrr Toonami stinky you cant announce the show >:(“ but rather a “stall for time guys it’s not done yet”. I believe next week Adult Swim is doing their upfront panels. That should shed some light on the FLCL sequels (which Demarco has implied are still on track), as well as Uzumaki (which Demarco has implied might miss the mark again this year). If they announce next week, that’s roughly 3 weeks of promotion, which is about right for an AS original project.
  13. UWE is going to be at the whims of its Thursday premier. Toonami is the only part of AS that has to take breaks on minor holidays, so it’s probably gonna keep on trucking and Toonami will just have to accommodate it. I assume on 5/27, the first episode of UWE will be the encore of that weeks premier. I believe we saw similar treatment of Primal last year. I believe you have forgotten that Superman show, which is almost guaranteed to replace UWE at midnight when it ends. I have a feeling the only time premier anime will take midnight for the rest of this year is if we get the new FLCL seasons. I probably sound like a broken record on this, but I will once again reiterate how much sense it makes to shift Toonami to 11-2. Especially now that we have an anime that can pull its weight, and hopefully a second one on the way. I think 11:30 Dr Stone would be pretty healthy. The questions to ask about the rest of the year now are 1. What is the mystery show replacing Food Wars? Dr Stone was on a lot of peoples short list but that apparently was not the answer. 2. Where does Titan fit into this puzzle? Does it fit in at all? Crunchyroll has yet to release the dub, but another month or more before release? I have seen a lot of Titan fans getting pretty irate at the silence on the matter, I’m starting to get a vibe we may not get it. 3. Where do FLCL and Uzumaki fit it? Demarco has already started floating a potential Uzumaki delay again, so if that’s out, there’s plenty of room to knock out both FLCL in the fall. Upfronts are next week, maybe we see some original discussion there. 4. Will Dr Stone take a cour break? If we get both, that slot is covered till next year. If there is a break, part 2 might be one of the first additions of 2024. As with most schedule updates, answers to current questions tend to spawn new ones. But that’s part of the fun, at least we got some good news this time around.
  14. Huh, I’ll admit predictable sequel pickups don’t really excite people much, but you would think they would at least say something like “while you wait, we have Dr Stone S3 kicking off!” or something like that. This is only the second announcement of 2023 and they just tossed it out there without a word. That aside, I agree. It’s nice to have SOMETHING cooking. And now I’m a little more enthusiastic knowing a predictable sequel isnt the only thing we have been waiting for. I assume the mystery show will take over for Food Wars.
  15. So they announced 3 more schedules and gave a bunch of excuses for nothing new. Yet the third schedule lists Dr Stone S3. Oopsie?
  16. I assumed those shows are being removed because they are migrating over to Max when it launches. It’s just they are communicating poorly.
  17. HBO Max got namedropped again. Laughed my ass off at Matt just sitting in his room playing with a boob slider on a game, especially since it was implied he was supposed to go on the trip. Kinda found it weird this one was rated MA S though. Really don’t see what warranted it.
  18. Someone made that exact point to him, and he pointed out that the landscape had changed between then and that point in time. If I remember right, there had been a prolific shooting right around the time he had made those comments about GGO. Looking back at our recent years, we haven’t had many gun heavy shows either. Plenty of shows where guns are present, but not where they are such a primary focus. Best I can think of is AssClass, which has been a target of controversy since it’s release, but that was also a Covid emergency pickup, so we probably never would have seen it otherwise. I just find it strange for him to throw Demarco under the bus like that unprovoked. He could have just said nothing and that would have been the end of it, Toonami rarely picks up spin offs so it would not have been strange to never see it air. Instead, he redirected everyone to go be mad at Demarco, which makes it feel like they may have been working out a deal and Demarco pulled out and made him upset. Idk, it’s all speculation. I just don’t believe cast blame on someone by name for no reason at all.
  19. I believe it though. That’s not just some rando making a claim, there’s no reason an ADR director would go say something like that if there wasn’t some level of truth to it. And we know the guy loves to virtue signal anytime he gets the chance. Don’t forget, we very narrowly avoided him saddling us with Yuri on Ice.
  20. I hated how they just kept looping the movie episodes in the early months of getting it back. It got me in the habit of avoiding the show because more often than not it would just be one of those episodes. That’s a good thing though. The CC seasons are some of the most creatively bankrupt garbage out there, and based on the titles leaked for the new season, it’s going to be just as bad.
  21. It would get people talking about Toonami, that’s for sure. We are at the point where any publicity is good publicity, so if Buttack on Titan will get the job done, so be it.
  22. I could see it, Demarco loves to tell the fans they will never get a show then still bust their ass trying to get it when now a bunch of people probably watched it elsewhere. Sunrise is also known to be cooperative, but at the same time not easy to work with. Lupin would be weird being tied up since we know Sentai is cooperative so they don’t necessarily need to sidestep them. TMS hasn’t given them a hard time in the past either.
  23. So they call that kid second last, I wonder who the first is? Obviously the block that it airs on! DOHOHOHOHOHO
  24. Could be, but it seems strange to hype it up when it’s going to be gone the very next week. At which point, we would start asking what replaces Food Wars.
  25. I definitely think it’s facing the same issue Primal S2 had and is being held back by a strange timeslot for a premier. If that was premiering on Toonami I think we could have scratched the 300k mark. But, two top 50 slots is nothing to sneeze at, it’s just a shame it can’t be a success shared with Toonami.
