  1. I appreciate making the change a gag at least. I don’t think this works for Rick though, so hopefully AS goes a different route Probably because they were unprepared. From what they said, they haven’t even made a decision yet. I assume they are torn between an impersonator or going full Tracey Morgan
  2. From what I have read, it was built as a contained, 10 episode mini series. So unless that changed late in production, they don’t really need to worry about an S2 anyway. Still though, not good for Toonami since it’s dragging all of our other stuff down, and I’m expecting Superman to do the same when people catch on that it’s not an action show. Right now, the block needs more than one solution. Even if Superman does great, the rest of the night is severely lacking. They need something that is a huge audience resonator to replace Food Wars, and every week that passes with no news increases my doubts that they can pull something like that off. Even then, I still think they have an uphill battle ahead for audience retention. While Dr Stone is viewed in a much more favorable light, it’s going the same path as the Food Wars anime, rather than a detailed journey about how the cast cooks/invents, they just pull things out of their ass. Just last week they snapped their fingers and had an oil refinery, a combustion engine, and gasoline. Not a single step shown, just here it is. And it wouldn’t surprise me at all if that’s burning some people out on it as well.
  3. Yeesh, what a way for Food Wars to end its Toonami run. Even more reason to hope next week’s rerun is just to stall for one week and not a full loop of the season. What was the turning point for UWE? Two weak nights in a row, seems to me like it wore thin for people and they have given up on it.
  4. I need the refresher course or something, I have no idea why I thought it went down that way
  5. I could have swore Baratie happens after Arlong
  6. “Some anime influence within the animation” ”Some”
  7. I’d consider it if I was being paid $45.
  8. This isn’t quite right. Streaming was their competition, even if not from a direct standpoint. When a distributor is looking for a western home for their show, did they want it to be a stream exclusive headliner, or give it to Toonami for them to bury? That’s where they made a mistake, streaming was always their competition even if they insisted it was not, and now they are paying the price where the only anime afforded to them are sequels that are a month and a half or more behind their stream release. Toonami got a brief taste of what it felt like to be the gatekeeper of anime in the western market back in the 90s, and they never really seemed ready to accept that wasn’t the case anymore.
  9. Toonami treated it like garbage it’s entire run even though the show was always reliable to them. It would be poetic to see it’s success on Netflix drive it’s price out of Toonami’s window.
  10. It looks extremely cheap. Like distractingly so. If that’s what they are putting in the promo, I shudder to think of what normal scenes look like. They dumped all the money into a couple set pieces and the rest will suffer. That aside, it actually does feel like One Piece. The characters feel like who they are supposed to be. So often we see a live action project where the entire cast are nothing like the original. I still don’t think it will be good, but it looks like it will be mediocre enough to give a chance for a few laughs. The cheap looks and pedal to the metal pacing is gonna be a huge hurdle for it though.
  11. Nothing is confirmed, but I would be shocked if it doesn’t have the Thursday premier, Friday Max, Saturday Toonami rerun model.
  12. It’s starting to look more like the spigot is willingly turned off just to save money. They don’t need to tap Viz or Sentai for content if they can keep a steady flow of this Max bound stuff filling up the block. With only 3 flexible slots, they can easily get through a year of Toonami with only 2-3 acquired shows.
  13. Spoilers in the video. Looks like Dr Stone is going to be a split cour show, it picks back up in Japan in October, so probably a return to Toonami in November. That gives us a little bit more schedule flexibility to sneak in FLCL. At least I hope that’s the plan and they don’t plan to just stall for 2-3 months until the next half is ready. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVxKp_d62ow

  14. So Kirkland brand Food Wars then? Without the boobs. I have a feeling Toonami will see very little in the way of acquisitions in the future, and just filling up with these in house projects instead.
  15. Every anime AS has put their fingers in has been terrible. Let Japan do anime.
  16. Dammit, I wanted this series to be dead after how it was treated on Toonami. I can’t go through that a second time.
  17. Western projects flop immediately if they don’t try to rip off anime. Genndy is the sole outlier to this rule. No one else has the talent to be an exception. And since this was originally CN bound, they were probably trying to lure in some of that audience who hasn’t seen the good stuff yet.
  18. Toonami always ends up a disaster when something throws the times off, even by a small amount. I’d say we get back to where we were this week. I wouldn’t be surprised if the time oddity messed up a few DVRs as well. They actually did fix the Stone promo to say 12:45, but it was pretty late in the week.
  19. It actually was available on Saturday, Swimpedia got it from somewhere. I don’t believe it’s actually appeared on air yet though
  20. Let’s hope they have something to show for AS because right now their future entails a season of Teenage Euthanasia, Toonami’s originals, and not much else.
  21. Staffing and budget has nothing to do with it. At times when the block was in great shape, we saw gaps in the schedule because no sequel or popular shonen was ready to air. If they had more budget, they would go out and waste it on something like Demon Slayer S2 or Spy X Family, then we would have a schedule gap again when those shows end because they sunk the entire budget into them. They would never even consider using an extended budget for B list shows from Sentai that would stock the block for a year.
  22. Last year I think they also teased it in a panel just to give us that excuse reel, so I’m going into this expecting another delay. The only thing worse would be an abrupt cancellation but if they are title dropping it, then it’s safe from that. If they do announce it for October, wonderful. At this point in the year without a single peep on either, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to consider a delay for one or both FLCL seasons. The last two had like a 6 month delay, so it’s not unheard of.
  23. Could the ultimate vaporware anime finally be a reality? Production IG and WIT have a panel at AX on July 2nd at noon, and their panel description namedrops Uzumaki. Big tease for October? Or much gomenasai and another delay?
  24. 6/24 was not announced because it will just be looping back to the first episode of Food Wars S5. Whatever you believe in, pray to him/her/it that this is just a one week stopgap and they aren’t going to do a second run of the season after Superman’s double premier.
