  1. He actually answered that question in an interesting way. Ultimately, the choice is not his decision, but he did admit at the same time that he is consulted about where it airs. He could say, preferably not on Toonami, and the schedule team could tell him to kick rocks. But, he did win that Emmy, so if GT want a non Toonami premier, GT gets a non Toonami premier. Now, something way above everyone’s pay grade like CN getting chopped down and UWE moved to AS, I doubt anyone asked for opinions on that move, so can’t fault him for that. I would be interested to hear if other AS creators are given a voice on where they think their shows should air, or if that is a special luxury that is only afforded to Genndy. Considering almost every other premier in recent years on AS has been at the same time on Sundays, I have my doubts other creators get a chance like that.
  2. Let’s be real here, Genndy could think Toonami is a wet bowl of diarrhea, but he isn’t gonna say that in an official AMA with Adult Swim’s reddit account. Personally I always found “hate” to be the wrong terminology for his opinion on the block. Instead, he simply believes his material is too good for it. And his response there only further supports that. He wants his shows to stand on their own and not carry Toonami baggage. In a way, I can see from a creator aspect for why you would want that. But at the same time, I feel he undervalues how much Toonami and it’s fanbase elevated his career, and the Toonami audience rightfully feels slighted that we are only good enough for reruns in his eyes.
  3. I think it’s two things 1. Thursday is a straight doodoo time to premier anything at midnight. People are tired from work and probably gotta go to work in the morning. Genndy’s hateboner for Toonami really harms his own projects. 2. Overexposure. It doesn’t matter how good or popular a show is, beating people over the head with it breeds fatigue as well as apathy. UWE isn’t popular enough to see rampant spoilers, so people see no urgency to show for the premier. If Thursday is no good, catch it Friday. Toonami fan? Just watch it during the block you are going to be there to watch regardless. Or, tune in to one of the multiple marathons sure to happen. Too many options fragments ratings, though AS may like that if they don’t value one high performing premier slot over multiple mediocre rerun slots.
  4. I doubt everything will happen in one day. I’m expecting in the coming weeks we will slowly see content trickle in, similar to how in the past few weeks we have seen things gradually trickle out of HBO Max. If they have any common sense, I hope they see the connection between Cartoon Network dying and a need for a well stocked CN section on Max. Their whole logic of dropping the HBO part was to make it seem more family friendly, so I hope they actually bother to follow through in making it an all ages service.
  5. Kind of. The proof has been out there for years now that the majority of holiday marathons are just pointless delays and the only reason viewership on those days declines is because of the marathon itself. The years without a marathon pulled similar numbers to the nights immediately prior. Like I said, they just run these to stretch content and stall for time. I had assumed the reason was Dr Stone, but they have already edited clips of it into their block promo, so I see no reason they couldn’t have started it on Saturday and just ran a normal schedule this week. I assume what they actually want to put the brakes on is Food Wars. This marathon + the 4th of July means they only have one odd week in June to cover and can delay the alleged new show till July.
  6. So that’s it, the season finale. Now that we have had 10 full episodes to chew on, what did you guys think? Personally, I think I’ll give it a 7/10. Considering I expected that I would hate it, that’s actually a pretty good score. It didn’t do anything amazing, but it had a fair share of jokes that got a laugh out of me, and there was never a point where I felt like dropping it outright. My only real criticism is it’s glaringly obviously how much they recycle the voice cast for bit part characters. I get it, it saves money, but when ATHF did it, Dave Willis had 3 very distinct voices to use. Maybe it’s just a side effect of watching 450+ episodes of Shippuden on Toonami, but I can hear Naruto and Hinata no matter what they try. That said, I only realized today that Kakuzu was among the main cast, so it’s not everyone. Anyway, I’ll probably tune in for “season” 2, but I do have concerns about the shows longevity potential. Ratings wise it seems to be acceptable, especially for a soon to be expanded AS, but considering I see very little dialog about the show anywhere on the internet, I have concerns about how long they will stay that way.
  7. Aside from the last two weeks of the year, marathons exist for no purpose other than to stall for time. If they don’t need to stall, we won’t see a marathon. If they do need to stall, there will be one. But considering how things have been, smart money is they need to stall. That’s been my assumption. Toonami thinks they are entitled to it, Crunchyroll does not. So it’s just stuck in limbo until one side caves. Im sure Crunchyroll is getting a lot of hate mail for not having it released yet, so pressure is on them, not Toonami, to be the one to budge.
  8. We are getting dangerously close to a point where Uzumaki simply cannot air in October while also accommodating two seasons of FLCL which Demarco still seems confident are coming this year. If we start FLCL in July and then immediately go into the second season, I think that’s just enough time where the first Saturday of October is open for Uzumaki. If they announce a different show for July, there’s not really space for FLCL to start until either Superman clears out of the lead, or if the mystery show is very short. Depending on the title, I could see Dr Stone getting bumped to 1 if it’s something very high profile. Which with this kind of wait, you kinda assume it’s gotta be. As for the AoT dub? Fans of that have got to be tearing their hair out because it looks like another full month of it being unaccounted for.
  9. Looks like one of the UWE episodes is going to run long and offset Toonami by 15 mins on the 10th. Then back to normal the following week. The 17th marks the last episode of Food Wars, but I highly doubt they would start a new show the following week since they insist on an annual 4th of July marathon and they usually don’t start shows and immediately stop them. Im not gonna lie, at this point I’m growing in skepticism that they ever had a show tied up in Japan in the first place.
  10. Highest ratings adult swim has seen in a decade right here. The 12-3 hour would chart number one on all of cable.
  11. Based on the list of leaked episode titles, they are going for the exact same dated low hanging fruit the CC seasons did.
  12. Zaslav might be on to something here. Imagine instead of having 10 separate bills for services, you have all of them bundled together for one price. We could call it, “cahbul” or something like that.
  13. It’s not a 100% no, but he does not seem enthusiastic about the odds of anything changing in regards to Toonami. While that annoys and frustrates me, I’m glad to see Demarco be up front about this early so we don’t wonder and speculate about it for a months. And if something changes between now and then? Our expectations are already low so it will surely be exciting. In hindsight, when looking to spawn a new brand, instead of going for a toddler brand in Cartoonito (which at this point is barely even alive), maybe they should have tried firing up a CN version of Teen Nick or Disney XD. A proper home for that PG, and light TV 14 content. Take the two hours from CN, and shave one hour off AS, and make that into a block. If it goes well, shave more time off CN. That would be the home for things like UWE, and if it needs some filler, stuff like Adventure Time and Regular Show would fit, especially in the event it moves earlier. I see their point, CN viewership is in the toilet, but going about this the way they are is really muddying up the “adult” part of adult swim when there really should be a middle ground brand.
  14. I’m not saying expand it, I’m just saying relocate it. 11-2 would be an amazing upgrade. 10-1 would also be neat but I think that’s starting to trend too far forward. Any earlier than that would be tough for people to work around. One would think, with a second extension to Adult Swim, they should have more budget to play with, and it would be nice, though unlikely, if Toonami could get a piece of that. Imagine if you will, a 11-3 Toonami with a consistently rotating Sentai hour. Or a better financial negotiation standpoint with Crunchyroll. There’s a lot they can do with Toonami, they claim to be supporters of Toonami, yet they allow the block to wallow in its filth with little support. Im dreaming big here but I’d genuinely be happy just seeing 11-2. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
  15. I really don’t understand their plan here. We are still in a situation where there is almost no content announced for Adult Swim. Bobs will surely be gone by September. Is CN in such an abysmal state that like 4 straight hours or KotH or Futurama is really better? We are almost at the point where we have to ask why CN even exists in such a small amount. And let me make a future prediction, even with this extension, Toonami will still be stuck 12-3.
  16. In my defense I posted that when people were calling that fake news. So unfortunately, we cannot certify this as the most brutal Upfront of all time.
  17. For anyone who forgot to watch, I’m glad to summarize the news related to Adult Swim for you.
  18. https://twitter.com/WBDAdSales/status/1658118491776380931 I assume HBO Max changing into Max will dominate the discussion this year, and most creators won’t be showing up because of the strike, but maybe if we are lucky they will have something related to Adult Swim to talk about.
  19. Someone pointed out that Crunchyroll dropped the Witch from Mercury dub without a word, and he made a quip about if HE got it, Toonami would have made a big deal about it. And remember, this is the same guy who just tossed Dr Stone S3 announcement on Facebook without a word making everyone think it was a mistaken reveal. But he totes would have done better for Gundam, promise.
  20. She was a stripper, they will probably just have a one night stand and return to the status quo. If it comes up, Theo will probably make a quip about how rockstars don’t get tied down. I thought for a second the two executives would hook up too but they didn’t, likely to not be something the writing staff has to deal with later. And they did air a promo, it was just much later in the night. Seems like Matt got called into a private meeting with someone else in the company and the rest of them want to know what happened.
  21. Even if it could, Demarco publicly talked shit to Crunchyroll for not allowing them to air it. That’s not the way you convince an already hostile company to share a successful product with you.
  22. Because we waited a LONG time for this announcement, and after all the stalling to have it end up being something that surprises no one is kind of a letdown. Is Dr Stone a bad pickup? Absolutely not. It just came at a time where it can’t possibly live up to the unintended hype Demarco has been building up around it. A lot of us occasionally want to be able to say “wow, I can’t believe Toonami is airing THAT” but we rarely get the chance. As we saw right here, they would rather stall for months waiting for a sequel rather than give something fresh a chance.
  23. I’m just at a loss for acquisition possibilities that would have this much involved labor on the Japan side. Like I said in the OP, maybe Bleach? Not because Viz isn’t cooperative, but because so many fingers are in that pie. Just nothing else really sticks out as meeting two criteria. 1, something that would require direct involvement from the Japanese side, and 2, something Demarco would actually be interested in. If he hadn’t shot down Gundam, I’d be certain it was that. I guess under super longshot idea could be a world premiere project like we got with Space Dandy. I don’t think a deal like that would go down in 2023, but it fits with what we know. Not an original, but something Toonami gets first rights to.
  24. “Tied up” isnt well defined. It could be a contract or legal issue giving them trouble, or it could be a production issue. We know for a fact that the FLCL seasons are being worked on in Japan. It absolutely can be a production issue that is preventing them from making an announcement. Remember, they are supposed to air this year, and half of it is already gone. They have to be announced soon to fit into 2023. Even sooner if Uzumaki actually makes the cut this year.
