I think the most interesting thing we have coming up is on 9/9, there is going to be 3 separate empty slots. They will throw some filler for a week where FLCL is, and Superman will air over Labor Day as all AS premier/Toonami rerun shows do. But as we have seen in the past, they really hate to double dip on a premier night, let alone triple dip on a night where one of the shows is an original. How they will handle that is anyone’s guess, they may have their hand forced on a mass premier night on 9/9 because I don’t see a realistic way they can cover an hour for one week. Timeslot wise, seems like all originals are going at midnight, so if Grunge isn’t the midnight show I’d be pretty shocked. Only way I could see it is if they got a certified triple A acquisition like Bleach to take midnight. The 1a slot could be anything. As far as what acquisitions we could see, there is basically zero info to go on. There are no sequels that were recently released, so they either need to go backwards to something like Bleach, or do what they fear most, branch out to an untested title. We do know from Demarco’s past statements that Eizouken was something he really wanted, so if that tweet ends up being something more I won’t be shocked. Other than that, there are zero hints at what they could be looking at. As much as I’d love for it to go away, I don’t believe we will be so fortunate to see One Piece hit the road before its worst arc starts. That would be 4 openings on 9/9, I don’t even have faith they can handle 2. I believe Uzumaki will probably follow up Grunge immediately at completion. I think they are opting for this sub premier because they can’t pull the dub together before that point and they don’t want to delay the show for another full year. So they are just coming out with what they have. There is always a chance there is nothing besides Grunge and they are going to chop off an hour. But as much as I love to be a doomer, I don’t really see that after they just dropped the details on another original. Gotta be a Toonami to air that stuff on.

I dont expect it immediately either. I have a strong feeling that the only reason they are considering a sub run at all is because they can’t get this dubbed in time to replace Grunge. What I expect is sometime in the future we will be pondering what will replace a gap in the schedule, only to be disappointed by the Uzumaki dub which they will spin as some kind of privilege to get over something new. Will be even more frustrating if Uzumaki ends up sucking.

Don’t forget this version will have all that yucky problematic fanservice removed. Which is a bit ironic considering the animation is reminiscent of shows made for toddlers.

So 10+ years of telling your audience that subs = ratings death sentence, and now you are gonna roll out one of your pet projects under those conditions? I don’t really care either way (though I do agree on a visual dominant show like this it’s a unique issue), but more hypocrisy from the big man. Place your bets, they will double dip on it, the premier subbed, then rather than a proper replacement, we have to spend another 4 weeks premiering the dub.

Unfortunately it played out exactly as people expected. The only news we got relevant to the immediate future was FLCL. Which anyone with two brain cells already knew was airing on 9/9 the moment they stuck that rerun at 1am. We remain in the dark on what replaces Dr Stone and Superman, and the promised show they were close in April to announcing remains unannounced. And let’s be real, do we really think they would start a new acquired show the same week as FLCL? Big doubt.

Why would that very important piece of info not be in the trailer then? Fully expecting him to drop a “whoops there was a delay lol” around mid September.

Maybe that’s the plan, make Grunge an absolute abomination so people are willing to give Shoegaze a passing score purely because it doesn’t look like dogshit

Toonami has not acquired a non sequel show since January 2022 - Fact Toonami clearly still has money going into it, so the block isn’t on a sustained burnoff mode - Fact Sorry if the indisputable facts in the room conflict with your beliefs, but a thoughtless shitpost reply won’t make them stop being facts.

Have they? I feel like it’s only been in recent years that they have picked up the nickname “Crappa”. Their recent tactic seems to be rolling out a 10/10 trailer, keeping that energy into episode 1, then just giving up. They also have Sola on board for this project. They helped make the barely visible Black Lotus possible.

I’m eager to be proven wrong. I’d love for Demarco to walk on stage on Saturday and announce two non sequel pickups, hit the dab, and tell the haters to li-li-lick my balls. Doesn’t even have to be then, if Saturday is talk time for originals only, I’m cool if they are announced via Facebook in a month. As it stands, the last non sequel acquisition was Jan 2022 with Made in Abyss. Call it /co/ talk all you want, I call it reality talk. 1.5 years without a non sequel pickup and more open slots then I care to go back and count makes it very hard to argue that they have put one iota of effort into looking for new shows. Meanwhile, they are still announcing originals, so we know AS hasn’t completely abandoned the block.
