The live action cuts out a lot of the cringy side humor that has always been a turn off for people. They only have time for the main course and that’s all you get, none of the side stuff. The core part of each arc is usually pretty good, but then are like 5 side quests going on at the same time that range from mediocre to bad. The anime remake probably won’t cut any of that stuff, but just cut the padding. Which honestly should make the side stuff more tolerable if it doesn’t feel like we spend an excess amount of time on it. As for the title, One Piece Kai, One Piece Brotherhood, and One Piece: The Abridged Version were all shot down.

MHA and Dr Stone have been consistent returners for the block, so no doubt on us getting those. MHA will probably come around May, and I’d say November for Dr Stone. Still don’t know on Demon Slayer until we see what happens after Entertainment ends.

Let’s be real, it’s long overdue that some of these networks shut down anyway. Teen Nick has been running a near 24/7 loop of Henry Danger for MONTHS. These channels exist but quite obviously have no audience and no one that cares about their management. Even if this deal does not go through, Teen Nick, Boomerang, Nicktoons, Nick Jr, and Discovery Family could disappear tomorrow and no one would care. The only reason I didn’t include CN is because it’s name and legacy still hold weight, even if it’s schedule does not. Trying to survive the cable hellscape in 2024 by everyone combing their last few successes together is logical, but I just can’t see it getting through the courts. Spongebob on CN and South Park on AS are lines I just cannot see being crossed. Only if the fireball is the one they use for ATHF when Shake throws something.

The funny thing is that I’m pretty sure Paramount is also in a dire financial situation, so this would be like taking two small problems and combining them into one giant problem. Unfortunately though, I believe both sides are comfortably in the too big to fail zone. So we will see lots of reports of their impending bankruptcy, but an unseen hand will make sure it only stays reports.

Final season of Dr. Stone confirmed in production by author

I figured it only had a seasons worth left of material. Unfortunately this series kinda races to its endgame, I assume Jump gave him a deadline to get it ended. Hopefully the anime will end on the epilogue chapters that are currently releasing. -

Rick and Morty: The Anime drops first clip

A couple months ago Demarco was floating that Uzumaki might premier subbed too. I really worry about what this R&M will do to the block if they insist it take one of the lead slots. As a 2:30 rerun when IGPX ends it would be fine but I don’t think we will be so lucky. -
Between the live action and now this remake, I’m thinking some younger people are starting to move up the decision making ladder at Toei, while the out of touch boomers who think cable is relevant are retiring. It would be a godsend for Toonami if Netflix announced they would be the exclusive home for Dragonball Diaper. Sooner rather than later so Demarco doesn’t think he has a shot at it.

Toei and Netflix are getting pretty cozy together on their self made money train, so down the road I could see them cutting out the Toonami side project, especially once this project actually is ready to roll out. Probably not 2024, but I could see Toonami having an issuing renewing their next episode batch for 2025.

There isn’t an anime out there that needs this treatment more. Netflix isn’t fucking around, that’s for sure. Live action does good so they immediately set their sites on fixing the anime. Unfortunately, it seems Toei is still going to be heavily involved, so some of their bad influences might stick around. Meanwhile we are stuck with the Dressrosa dumpster fire on Toonami. Netflix will probably crank out two seasons of the remake before we finish Dressrosa.

My Hero Academia Season 7 to debut in Japan Spring 2024
Toonamiguy321 replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I would not be surprised if the recap is there purely because they don’t have enough material for a full season. They usually don’t want to just stop at a random place, and it’s this point in the manga there aren’t clear stopping points so they just have to wing it now. -
Dr Stone will premier two episodes on Dec 16th
Toonamiguy321 replied to Toonamiguy321's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It’s not a bad theory, at least at the start of last year with the future of AS and Toonami in question, only having a backlog of 50 episodes mitigates the risk if things go south. I assume being on months and months of stall mode isn’t in their core plans which stretched their 50 a little thinner than anticipated. But given the abrupt nature of the change, it does feel like someone was checking the episodes for Saturday and realized they were one short and needed a quick fix. If that’s how they plan to do things again next year, they really have to have things in order because OP will be the only schedule filler title left. -
My Hero Academia Season 7 to debut in Japan Spring 2024

If we can’t get Swordsmith this soon, I could see this being the time they squeeze in Ninja Kamui. Originally that was supposed to be a 2023 original, so I assume it’s pretty close to release. That fills up 12 weeks and MHA can follow it immediately after. -
Yea this is a little unexpected, I thought Dr Stone would migrate to 1am here. This strongly implies we are NOT going back to double One Piece for awhile and they have something of significance for 12:30. Kinda thought they would do a little more to announce Lycoris since it’s their first new title since Jan 2022. Just threw the schedule out there like everyone already knows what it is.

I miscounted the days, it’s on the 16th. If you want to get technical like the app does, Toonami does air on Sunday every week, so it’s not wrong to say it’s on the 17th. I do have to wonder their reasoning for this, as I find it hard to believe they already have another show lined up they need to get on ASAP. Unless they were given a timeline to get Scavengers on. Did the exact same thing -
As shown on the official AS schedule but NOT reflected on places such as TV Passport. Seems to have been a very last second change. People did observe that the Dr Stone marathon had one too many episodes, but burning an extra episode to make sure they had enough isn’t how I expected them to fix that.

My Hero Academia Season 7 to debut in Japan Spring 2024
Toonamiguy321 replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well, I think we know what our Demon Slayer replacement will be. They may have to stall a bit to get us there though. This season is going to get very close to where the manga is at since this is around the time its release schedule started to slow down. Season 8 is definitely going to have a larger gap between its release. -
Lycoris Recoil was not something I ever considered them picking up, so if we see the best case scenario where Demarco roots around the Aniplex catalog, there are a lot of crazy directions we could see them go for replacements next year. Originals, I have my doubts Lazarus will be a 2024 show. Watanabe seemed to want it to be, but did not seem confident it would be. I don’t think they will hesitate to give that more time in the oven. Sequels, at least at the moment, I don’t think any are on deck. MHA has been consistent yearly, but it’s also starting to get close to the manga so they might pump the brakes on it for a bit. Special event wise, I do expect them to put together a little send off for Naruto. Airing 500 episodes of anything deserves a celebration. 2024 has the potential to be a major Toonami redemption arc since we are hitting the ground running the very first week of the year. Time will tell if they can actually deliver beyond the first 3-4 months of the year.

Double OP still costs them money to air, so I doubt they want to do that + have stocked new shows at the same time. Especially since double OP is their emergency trump card when they can’t line something up. If it’s already doubled up, if they don’t have a replacement for one of the above shows, they are SoL. A repeat of this years long term double OP and double Naruto time stalling won’t work, so they really need that second OP in their back pocket for emergencies. Like I said, if they had more budget and a clear content path with Aniplex, an expansion could work. Unfortunately, I don’t think they will be getting either of those so it’s smarter to sit at 3 hours. Even with their obligations to originals and reheated reruns, that still isn’t enough to cover all their bases, especially since none of them have a firm release date. They did say 2024 for the likes of Ninja Kamui and Lazarus, but hey they also said 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 for Uzumaki, and we have yet to see that.
