Adult Swim April Fools 2024
Toonamiguy321 replied to Toonamiguy321's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
New update to the schedule. Perhaps the “new” Smiling Friends episodes aren’t actually S2 and are utilizing the old episodes with some type of edit or something. It does seem that there will be something small that happens during the commercial breaks as the schedule gets offset during the 12:30 episode and does not correct until 3am. Perhaps some type of 5-7 minute Smiling Friends short? -
You can try. I’d be impressed if anyone calls it right because we have nothing to go on. No sequels, no obvious seasonal choices, it truly could be anything. Or this good run could be coming to its end and we just go back to double OP. We have a lot of western obligations as well, could pop up on as a teaser on April Fools for all we know. Id say since Aniplex hasn’t spilled the beans yet it probably isn’t coming from their catalog.

10 a year doesn’t even sound realistic unless most of them are HCC tier mini series with 4 or less episodes. 10 a year would be 3 per anime season, with one season having 4. Wouldn’t surprise me if the suits signing off on this have zero idea what goes into an anime. It’s not like the western slop they are used to churning out. I don’t even think Crunchyroll was putting out 10 a year when they were big on originals. And most of it was cheaply made and as generic as they come.

I just feel like if this is a successful experiment for Netflix, they have the wallet power to incentivize CR to not allow them to be devalued on cable. Not make them Netflix exclusive, just make sure no smelly cable networks ever have these shows in their price range. Really, having them off the table entirely would probably be a good thing since we know now Demarco never stops chasing a show unless the door is firmly shut. Get him to stop dreaming about what he can’t have and start focusing more on what he can.

Missed Opportunities of Toonami History
Toonamiguy321 replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
They seem to be (rightfully) skittish about any really old content that isn’t already associated with AS or Toonami. I have to wonder if they would have even gotten Paranoia Agent if not for Covid leaving them with various schedule gaps. Id imagine the reason BBB never made the cut is because it just came at the wrong time. Looks like the dub started mid 2015, so maybe they were more focused on cutting a deal with Sentai who had their first intro on the block a few months later. Really, that’s the answer for quite a few missed shows over the years. Just wasn’t room. And when there was room, it was yesterdays news. And the only reason the current block is more flexible is because CR won’t part with any of the hot shonen. -

Not that distant online schedules ever tell us much, but nothing seems out of the ordinary for AS that night. Hard to say if Checkered Past is doing anything. They are not curating prank themed episodes, so either they are doing nothing or if that’s a sign they have a grander plan. -

Add periodic fart sounds over the end of broadcast screen and you have a real winner here. -
Missed Opportunities of Toonami History
Toonamiguy321 replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
When the block came back in 2012, Panty and Stocking and Madoka seemed like 2 shows that should have been in their immediate sights. But no we had to waste money on Naruto reruns. And on the matter of long runners, not that I wanted it, but Fairy Tail seemed like it would have been an obvious pick for them, especially knowing their love for 3 digit episode count shows. Had they gotten it in 2012, they would have been very close to premiering it in 2015-2016. -
Dragon Ball Z Kai 2024 Rerun Discussion Thread
Toonamiguy321 replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Yea a great tribute, just 1-8 instead of actually putting a little thought into the episode selection. Really feeling the love and respect here. You are being SUPER fragile over a quick heads up of information. And come on, I have been on board with every new pickup this year so far. I’m only a “contrarian” when they do bad things.- 1357 replies

Dragon Ball Z Kai 2024 Rerun Discussion Thread
Toonamiguy321 replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I’m not watching it lmao, I need zero encouragement for that. I just want to make sure people are aware that these episodes they will binge tonight are going straight back into the normal rotation and Demarco really half assed this entire night purely to preserve a very long rerun of a show slightly longer. If they were gonna do that, they should have done a “best of” with all the action dense episodes.- 1357 replies

Dragon Ball Z Kai 2024 Rerun Discussion Thread

So a heads up for people, according to online schedules, next weeks DBZ will be episode 4, NOT episode 9. So tonight is basically a huge waste of time unless you want to go to bed early for the next 5 weeks. Demarco really shit the bed with this whole thing.- 1357 replies

Yep that’s what I expected, we had some non regulars blow in at midnight to see if TOM had anything to say. Hopefully they come back this week when TOM probably does have something to say. About what I expected to happen with Naruto as well. Bunch of people showed out last week for the finale and now that audience is just done. Episode was also hella boring so that probably didn’t help either.

Toei would have a strike team at your house before you even sent one file. Then they would bring Demarco in for a paddlin’ just to set an example.

They probably don’t want to normalize it running at those hours since it will make people realize that’s where it should air normally rather than as a rerun on Toonami at 2:30a. Demarco and company care about this, the suits don’t. There is a zero percent chance they ever would have went for pulling precious primetime Fox reruns for DBZ. Frankly, I’m shocked they gave up the late night ones. Not to mention, this crowd is completely unpleasable. Give the the entire night, they will complain it’s not Ocean dub. Give them Ocean dub, they will complain about the filler/padding. Give them every single thing they ask for via magic, and 3/4 of them never even tune in because they forget about it by Saturday and aren’t Toonami regulars. No doubt TOM and Sara will have a big speech at the start of the night on Saturday. This is the best way to do a tribute but also not alienate regular viewers and throw off their already established schedule shifts. Considering they aren’t taking this opportunity to slow down Lycoris, I assume they both have its replacement locked in and have a specific time it needs to start. The Kamui sub at 1:30 will be interesting. That might be early enough for it to just squeak onto the rerun ratings reel. Though even if it does, I doubt that will change its regular home.

Normally I’d be upset about something like this, but they had the good sense to leave the main 3 shows on the block, so this is happening with very little impact to normal viewers. For the very small group of people watching Kai, it’s pretty knuckleheaded to rerun the first 3 episodes on a marathon that already starts really late. Would 4-11 really been a budget buster? Nah, this is more than enough. A TOM speech over some iconic moments would have been enough. Had they not gotten Kai back a month ago, that’s all he would have gotten anyway.

It’s 2024 and there are still a ton of people who don’t even know Toonami came back. I think at best, the start of the block will be up a bit from lapsed viewers tuning in to see if TOM had anything to say on the matter, but other than that don’t expect any huge spikes. Plus, even among viewers, Kai coming back wasn’t even advertised outside of a single Facebook post, so there are probably a lot of people out there who thought Toonami might do something, if they still had DBZ, not knowing that it’s back.

Space Dandy isn’t an AS original so you don’t have to decide. A lot of signs point to that being the case. She told the detective not to call her, and when he did, she didn’t pick up. Likely because she was mid meeting with the rest of the ninja guys. Now the question is, have we been seeing her real face, or does she have one of those hologram things.

Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc to debut May 7 in Japan
Toonamiguy321 replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Seems like 2-3 years need to pass before it’s cheap enough for the block to pick up. Demarco did say earlier today they do plan to get Swordsmith at a later date, so it’s just a waiting game at this point. Id rather see them wait till it’s affordable rather than see them compromise the rest of the block just to get it early.
