With S8 not coming this year, I have to assume the anime will run where S8 normally would starting in mid October. I assume the network foolishly still believes R&M is still at its relevancy levels from S3 and any Rick thing they shovel out is gonna do amazing. And they will be in for a rude awakening. This doesn’t appeal to anime fans, and it doesn’t move the plot needle of R&M any either so that fanbase won’t care either. From what we have seen from the teaser, it looks pretty bad visually too, so I’m not really sure who they are shooting for audience wise here. Even if it’s a ratings killer I’d be fine if it aired before the block, because that means we still have another slot to play with. Ideally, after the block would be the least harmful place but I doubt we will be so lucky. As for the promo, I wouldn’t say that’s a guarantee for a Toonami run because they have been shoehorning that in all over AS on major premiers.

Good catch with Superman, another two part start would help them buy a bit more time for MHA. Can’t say I agree with AoT for Memorial Day. I think they (and the audience) has put AoT behind them. While Superman really could do with a refresher course before the new season starts. I think IGPX will come back this year, but a little differently. With the newfound decay in expectations, I have returned to my earlier suspicion that DBZ will be the show replacing Naruto as the eternal 2a show. When that happens, IGPX will tag in and grab 2:30. Rick anime will be tricky. If they lead with it like you theorize, Toonami ratings are going straight down across the board. If they care about anything they acquired, I doubt they will want that. So Rick has to go somewhere else. Either a 3am run or some other time on Saturday that isn’t officially Toonami but is far enough away to not do too much damage. They didn’t seem too confident on it making 2024. And I don’t believe any AS original that didn’t have CR involved met its originally stated deadline. Plus it’s to their benefit to take a little extra time purely to give 2025 at least one piece of content to aspire to. Until we hear otherwise, Lazarus is the last original on deck.

For being a big fat doomer, you have a VERY optimistic view of the blocks future. The block is currently in (another) content crisis, so why would they do a significant expansion? To the 11 hour? Where R&M reruns absolutely mog Toonami ratings? Yea, not happening. Here’s what Toonami will actually look like after 3 weeks of stalling on June 1 12:00a - My Adventures with Superman S2 (rerun) 12:30a - My Hero Academia S7 1:00a - Zom 100 (more like Zom 1:00 am I right?) 1:30a - One Piece 2:00a - Naruto Shippuden 2:30a - DBZ Kai (rerun) Thats gonna be the schedule till late July when Zom ends, at which point we may get a new show, or we may go back to ol reliable double One Piece.
-
Either a 3 hour DBZ marathon (of episodes they will loop back to the following week) Or, Toonami gets an extension to 10 slots for the night so they can rerun MAWS in its entirety before S2 starts the following week. From a practicality standpoint, my money is here. As far as I know, MAWS has not had a rerun anywhere since ending. This would also be their smokescreen to chop off 3am the following week.

I am so angry at you for being 100% right. YOU manifested this into reality. No doubt there will be some stupid bullshit on Memorial Day too, so basically no Toonami for all of May. And now we pretty much know for sure that MHA S7 and Superman start in June. Also a funny observation - Zom 100 now has a stupid delay just like its original run had. Guess Toonami didn’t want to be left out.
-
I don’t think taking 3 straight weeks off the normal lineup (especially in this subpar state) is a very good idea. Memorial Day for sure, but the other two weeks should be relatively normal. I know all Naruto watchers want to actually reach the finish line this year. I don’t believe OP will run into any content issues unless we got like 2-3 months straight without something to kick it down to one again. And it looks like Superman is getting ready to start again, so between that and MHA I don’t think the Two Piece combo is staying for long.

My Adventures with Superman drops first look at Season 2

Well, with clips coming out, that means it’s getting close. I think Sketch’s theory about it replacing Ninja Kamui might actually pan out. Then MHA S7 replaces the second One Piece and takes 12:30. Im noticing that Smiling Friends is premiering on Sunday rather than Thursday, so can we get a bone thrown our way and have this premier on Toonami if it absolutely has to be on the block? -
The description for the episode was just as bad. I went to look at the online schedule to see if anything on the schedule was changing with Lycoris leaving, just to be greeted by “COPING WITH EMMA’S DEATH, JOE…” Yea ok thanks. It’s not really getting an extra episode, Demarco is just a clown who gave everyone the wrong information a few months ago. If your only source of info on the show was the details from the panel the staff did, then you were still of the correct notion that the show was 13 episodes since thats what they told everyone.
-
So it seems, Ninja Kamui is 13 episodes. Demarco is trying to save face by acting like they are making these episodes weeks before they go live and just suddenly decided they needed one more, and not that he was completely misinformed about a project he is apparently an executive director for. Anyway, that moves the end date to May 4th, so they have a bit more time to make any announcements. Good news for MHA since they won’t have to stall nearly as much. If we are lucky, the second One Piece is the stall show and we actually get something new replacing Ninja Kamui.
-
There was that other interview with the staff where they said it was 13 episodes. It’s the biggest mystery in the whole show. Looking ahead, I really don’t see where an extra episode fits. Next week Higan fights his rival and that probably tees up a fight with the big boss. Then the next week finishes that fight and cleans up the last plot threads. Unless my theory about his kid being alive pans out, then maybe there is another episode to squeeze out.
-
The 50 episode per year thing has always just been an educated theory. OP has already taken a few nights off this year, so they could probably do this for like 2 months before it becomes an issue if the 50 episode theory is true. Memorial Day and the 4th of July will probably be marathon nights, stupid as that is. There is also the chance that if that theory was true last year, they saw a need to buy themselves a little extra padding for 2024 when they did this years renewal. Anyway, we should have another schedule update by next Friday to tell us what’s replacing Ninja Kamui, unless they want to hold it to the very last second for no reason again.

Sigh, I guess our little dream run we had going had to come to an end at some point. Not even an empty promise that this will be temporary. Why did we have to wait this long for such a big disappointment? Maybe if they didn’t waste money on fucking Kai they could have afforded an actual premier. Using our brains? Couldn’t be Demarco.

Ol Lazzo sure got a better attitude with a show growing some lore when Rick and Morty started pulling down the numbers though. Ever since Toonami started doing originals I have desperately wanted them to pick up and finish Deadman Wonderland. Not sure what would be easier though, doing some retcons from the last few episodes since it went way off track from the manga, or just starting over.

I think anyone who wanted to watch Doomstar did so already. So that average over 2 hours doesn’t really surprise me. Unlike regular Metal episode, I don’t think the film has much rewatchability. As far as the block goes, there’s nothing much to complain about. Ninja Kamui is holding strong and everything else is following its lead. Especially Naruto this week for some reason, were people jacked to see the last filler episode ever? Lets just hope Demarco has something good to replace Lycoris so this momentum keeps up.
-
If they double anything, it will be One Piece. People can still (rightfully) complain we didn’t get a new show, but nobody can say we lost a premier. My hope is them yet to announce anything means they are at least trying to get something. Reruns or double ups don’t call for an announcement delay. Not a bad theory, especially if the episodes are structured in a way that the final two are better appreciated back to back. That would also explain delaying the reveal since they want this weeks episode promoted for most of the week on its own. But, doing so means much more work for the following week, and more room for disappointment if that major schedule shift sucks.

It’s still strange to me that in September, Demarco was 100% confident it would air in 2023. And then it didn’t come and there never was a follow up. I wonder if Demarco was trying to manifest it, or if he has been getting misinfo from the studio and it was way further off than they were telling him.

I feel the same way. Both of these shows rested in the back of my mind in the “never will be finished” pile, so it’s like a little weight I didn’t know was there feels like it’s lifted. For me, there is also kind of a feeling of disappointment. Yes, we got to cap off these stories, but they also felt extremely rushed. Especially for Metal, where the pacing for so long was band antics -> war room explanation -> “no, we will watch and wait”. It took years to get little plot threads moving, then resolved them all in a single special. I get it, it was finish now or never finish (looking at you Ballmastrz), but it leaves you feeling there should have been more. Wasn’t the issue with Metal that there was some kind of personal beef between Small and Lazzo? I thought things like the fax machine gag was Lazzo being petty, both to the fans and Small.

If things were going smoothly, we should have heard by today. I assumed that them not taking the DBZ marathon as a chance to slow down Lycoris meant they had something locked in but maybe I was wrong. I don’t believe 3am is meant to be a permanent thing. It was there to test drive subs and will likely be quietly removed when it no longer serves that purpose. Now, if they want to run Uzumaki subs, they might toss IGPX in that slot just to keep the 3am slot till fall. Then after Uzumaki, sweep it away in the DST confusion as they did a few years ago.
