Vic's old roles aren't going to be recast, not at this point. That goes doubly true for his bigger roles like in Fullmetal Alchemist. His voice is so closely associated with Edward Elric that it would be nigh impossible to remove him from that role.

Whoa. I expected the situation with Vic to end up this way, but I don't think I expected it to happen so quickly. Admittedly, I haven't been keeping up with anime/anime news as much as I used recently (I only just started on my Fall 2018 shows), so maybe part of it is me just hearing all of these developments happen at once, as opposed to a couple of days in between each one. Not really much that I can give in the way of my thoughts on the situation, but here they are, for what it's worth: -As I mentioned before, I've heard the stories about Vic before. I think everybody in the anime community knew of them, on some level. But as I learn more about Vic, he just seems more...I guess "disturbing" and "off-putting" would be the right words. And this isn't even considering the multiple sexual assault allegations against him. It was only recently that I heard about the "Risembool Rangers" and the Christian singing and CDs at his con appearances. I would agree that the "Risembool Rangers" themselves seem oddly cult-like, and while I have nothing against Christians, the mixing of that, Vic's behavior, and his fan club all form a sense of unease in me about the whole situation. -As a person, I'm largely apolitical. For that, you can thank 24 years of getting politics shoved down my throat at every conceivable moment. But in spite of that, I hold stronger opinions when it comes to assault, particularly violence against women. If #MeToo taught us anything, it's that ANY allegation of assault can be credible, and should be taken seriously. We should not just assume that someone is making an allegation to discredit a person, because in the vast majority of instances, that's not the case. -Taking that, as well as Vic's behavior and the LARGE number of allegations against him into account, I believe that releasing him from upcoming con appearances, as well as kicking him out of studios and his current dub roles, would be the correct course of action. He will hopefully be tried. I will stop short of calling him guilty, but considering everything that's come out about him so far, my sympathy lies with the accusers.

Yeah, I've always known that Vic is a creep. I haven't had any personal interaction with him, but I've heard the stories (kissing, hugging, etc.), and all this really does is solidify my opinion that he's not a particularly great person. I'm not going to go and not watch anything with him in it anymore, but if I don't see him in dubs anymore I wouldn't be upset.

"The scariest TIE yet", huh? Well, we'll see about that, but I'm definitely interested in watching it. I do hope TOM gets a new body, though, it's definitely beyond time for it. I mean, if we don't count the minor changes TOM's body got in Intruder II, then he's had this body for what now? Going on 6 years?

Ode to fucking JOY Sword Art does it again
CaptainStarwind replied to MasqueradeOverture's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm at a loss of words for this. What is the necessity of this? So we can have yet another scene in SAO of a guy coming to the rescue of the poor, helpless, girl? For the sake of titillating the audience? I really hope it's not the latter, because if Reki truly thinks that it hot to watch a woman (TWO in this case) get unwillingly pinned down, clothes being torn from her body, legs being forced open, and being tossed around like a fucking ragdoll, then he deserves every single ounce of hatred and criticism he gets for this scene. I'm honestly disgusted by this. Truly, completely, and honestly disgusted. There has only been one other time I've ever felt this level of disgust after a rape scene (occurring in a far better manga than SAO can ever aspire to be), and that experience left me very nearly mentally broken and resulted in probable depression. I think the biggest thing that disgusts me about this scene is that it's probably meaningless to the story. While I can't be certain of that (I've not been watching SAO Season 3, so someone correct me if I'm wrong), the fact that it's SAO, as well as how mad people are getting over it, lead me to think that such is the case. And if that IS, the case, then that means the scene could just be cut and nothing would be lost. Whatever little development that may have happened could easily have happened elsewhere. Which means Reki probably wrote this rape scene for one or more of these reasons: 1. To show a male character acting manly and saving helpless female characters 2. To add cheap drama 3. For fanservice Absolutely none of these are EVER good reasons to write a rape scene, and Reki should be ashamed of himself for thinking otherwise. I'll probably watch SAO III if it comes to Toonami, but I'll find it difficult to watch a (probably) uncensored version of that scene again.- 65 replies

Toonami moving back to 11PM start time in January
CaptainStarwind replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm glad Toonami is shrinking, actually. I've never been able to catch Toonami since it's been airing from 9 to 4, since I usually have other things to do. At least now I might actually be able to catch it once in a while. I also enjoy that it's running 11 PM to 5 AM again. -
That's the vibe I've been getting from them for the past couple of years. While, admittedly, some of these pickups are really good, I'd really like it if Toonami went back to the days of one or two big announcements a year, with smaller, shorter, and lower key shows the rest of the time. It wouldn't surprise me if Toonami wanted to play it this way (grab whatever popular show they can) from the very beginning of the revival. Their low budget would have precluded that, though, so they were forced to go with cheaper shows, and save the budget for a big pickup. I enjoyed significantly more in those days than I do now.
-
Oh yeah, I definitely miss it. Toonami used to be able to surprise us with show picks all the time. They weren't always the newest shows, or the most popular, and sometimes they weren't even what a lot of people wanted. But I always enjoyed it. I never knew what was going to show up. It seems that all they do now is find whatever action show is both, a. Popular, and b. Not currently licensed to Netflix and they just put it on the block. We can pretty much predict the shows now. It's not a matter or what, but of when.

I posted that after I got home from work in the morning, so while I know that the Bebop cast is not explicitly "white", I wasn't nearly coherent enough to either think about or express that. I'm not denying any of that. But I also don't expect the majority of people (other than those familiar with the anime) to look any further into the show than "They aren't Japanese" before they start decrying it. If they do, then good for them, their argument has merit.

Toonami's Producing a Blade Runner Anime
CaptainStarwind replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
This looks like it'll be interesting. Given how I was pleasantly surprised by Blade Runner 2049, I have decent hopes that this might actually be good. -
Well I mean DeMarco said he'd be getting shows that aren't straight action, so he pretty much has no choice but to pick this show up.

Yeah I still need to watch Part 2 of that. I'm so behind on so many things.

I'm holding out on rewatching Evangelion until we have a definite release day for 3.0+1.0. At that point I'll probably rewatch Evangelion, End, and all three of the rebuild movies in preparation.
-
I think it's obvious at this point that Master of Martial Hearts is going to become DeMarco's next FLCL.

Even if Macy's went out of business, it wouldn't surprise me if the name continued to be used to sponsor the parade. It's so iconic at this point that it would almost be sacrilege not to use Macy's name with it. That being said, even if they can't use Macy's name with the parade, someone else will just pick up naming rights to it.
