I think so. It will be interesting to see what happens this weekend with (as far as I can see) no NBA competition. Ironically, Super seems to shine under intense competition more so than FG reruns on a percentage basis, but of course not necessarily an aggregate basis. -

On Toonami, this is FLCL's 3rd airing. On [as]?? Too numerous to count! From Fall 2011 to Spring 2012 right before Toonami made its impact, it aired at 2 AM EVERY Saturday night, save Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve (Bleach marathons). As for All-Might... "Fear not, for I am here, this Saturday Night!" -

Well, we know a little bit more now about what went down Saturday night: http://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-tnt-wins-prime-time-with-nba-playoff-doubleheader/ Family Guy (R) (ADSM, Sat. 4/28/18 10:00 PM, 30 min.) – 0.898 million viewers (#93) – 0.517 million adults 18-49 (0.40 A18-49 rating) (#15) Dragon Ball Super (ADSM, Sat. 4/28/18 10:30 PM, 30 min.) – 0.909 million viewers (#90) – 0.555 million adults 18-49 (0.43 A18-49 rating) (#12) Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters (ADSM, Sat. 4/28/18 11:00 PM, 30 min.) – 0.767 million viewers (#160) – 0.445 million adults 18-49 (0.35 A18-49 rating) (#20) Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders (ADSM, Sat. 4/28/18 12:00 AM, 30 min.) – 0.518 million viewers (#395) – 0.281 million adults 18-49 (0.22 A18-49 rating) (#110) Black Clover (ADSM, Sat. 4/28/18 1:00 AM, 30 min.) – 0.486 million viewers (#430) – 0.261 million adults 18-49 (0.20 A18-49 rating) (#149) It was pretty bad in the old days, even a year ago, when DBS (Or Bleach, AOT, or DBZKai) tumbled in viewership from Family Guy by like 200K to as high as 500K, but that just doesn't happen anymore since that 10:30 PM episode is almost always a dub premiere. Not only did DBS handily beat its Family Guy lead-in once again in 18-49, this time by 38K, it edged it out in total viewers by 11K. Why they didn't list FLCL or Gundam IBO in this list is beyond me, but I digress. I guess #110 and #149 for the entire day for JoJo and Black Clover is pretty good though. Don't worry; we still got the full chart: PROGRAM Viewers (000) A1849 rating A1849 (000) 10:30 Dragon Ball Super 909 0.43 555 11:00 Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters 767 0.35 445 11:30 Fooly Cooly (r) 610 0.27 353 12:00a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders 518 0.22 281 12:30a Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 451 0.19 242 1:00a Black Clover 486 0.20 261 1:30a Hunter X Hunter (r) 470 0.21 277 2:00a Naruto: Shippuden (r) 418 0.19 251 2:30a Space Dandy (r) 368 0.17 222 3:00a Cowboy Bebop (r) 374 0.17 214 3:30a Ghost In Shell: 2nd Gig (r) 345 0.15 195 For the entire week of April 16-22, 2018 in Total Day (8 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.), Adult Swim is up 3.6 percent in viewership (760,000 vs. 734,000) and up 5.8 percent among Adults 18-49 (485,000 vs. 459,000) from one week earlier; the network is also down 6 percent in viewership (760,000 vs. 809,000) and down 2 percent among Adults 18-49 (485,000 vs. 495,000) from the same week one year ago (April 24-30, 2017). DBS winning the night on [as] is great, but the ratings for the post-midnight portion of the block not getting out of the 200K range in 18-49 isn't so great. As a result, the 18-49 average was 14th out of 17 weeks so far in 2018, well below average. Hopefully My Hero Academia is the hero that saves the numbers in the post-midnight portion of the block. But it might be until we have new FLCL that we see any real improvement. As for retention: 4/28/18 - Total Viewers Show Viewers Retention Family Guy 898,000 DBS 909,000 101.22% DBZKFC 767,000 84.38% FLCL 610,000 79.53% JoJo 518,000 84.92% Gundam 451,000 87.07% BClover 486,000 107.76% HxH 470,000 96.71% Shippuden 418,000 88.94% Dandy 368,000 88.04% Bebop 374,000 101.63% GITS 345,000 92.25% FLCL was the worst retainer of the night in total viewers; the best was unsurprisingly Black Clover, but Super and Bebop continue to do exceptional as well. 4/28/18 - Adults 18-49 Show Total Viewers Adults 18-49 Family Guy 517,000 DBS 555,000 107.35% DBZKFC 445,000 80.18% FLCL 353,000 79.33% JoJo 281,000 79.60% Gundam 242,000 86.12% BClover 261,000 107.85% HxH 277,000 106.13% Shippuden 251,000 90.61% Dandy 222,000 88.45% Bebop 214,000 96.40% GITS 195,000 91.12% In Adults 18-49, Black Clover and HxH were the best retainers outside of Super; let's see what happens next week when they swap. I'm expecting MHA to end the 11:30 slot's "worst retainer" woes that it has been stuck with pretty much since it was regained last year, but will the midnight hour now be the red spot of the night between old FLCL and JoJo? We'll find out next week! -

Parts of this are decent, but others are exceedingly stupid. It's BECAUSE My Hero Academia was acquired when it was, with only like 7 episodes of DBZ Kai left, that we're never really gonna know the effect that Kai has on it beyond that. If it was acquired a year ago, it would have been MORE at Kai's mercy! -

I won't link their shitty site, but I WILL repost the graph. I was taught in grad school that you need to cite the original source, and this graph does a fine example of that. No need to cite CartoonBoob here. That blue line for 2017-18 is less than A THIRD of the gray line halfway between 1.50 and the baseline. But does that mean it's a third of 750K? Not exactly. Note that the number given for the gray line two lines up from the 1.50 is marked with a 2.50. So the baseline is 0.50 million, or 500K, and the blue line in 2017-18 is most likely around 625K. Toonami's 2017 average was about 684K, but its 2018 average so far is 538K, which is still lower, but since only one of its timeslots is primetime and the rest are either late night (11 PM-1 AM) or overnight (1-3 AM), that matters less. Also of note is the fact that in 2010, CN still had 3 hours of primetime except on Sundays. As of late-ish in 2014, except for special events which were discontinued, CN only had one hour of primetime (the 7 PM hour). That probably explains partially why its numbers are a bit lower, but overall it got trashed less severely than Nick and Disney. Especially Disney--WOW! -

If SAO's new seasons don't somehow find their way to Toonami when dubbed, there is seriously something wrong. How did the Series Finale of Gundam IBO fare? Well... It not only got beat by Black Clover, it couldn't muster even 500K and 0.20 18-49. Sure it made the Top 50, but still, not a good luck, Gundam. That said, I'm sure Toonami isn't done with Gundam for good, but it is done with Gundam for the foreseeable future. And except for Black Clover, everything was down vs. last week. But next week the impact of My Hero Academia should lift slots before it. We'll see how it does back a slot behind Hunter x Hunter next week, though. Gundam IBO's finale pretty much tied with Mind Game in 18-34 and 18-49 rank, but the former didn't have the handicap of the next 1.75 hours. And of course, we'll most likely see a bit later today how well everything else on the lineup fared, either by ShowBuzzDaily, who seems to have shaken off their jury duty woes, or by Programming Insider. -
Well, THIS is interesting: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2017-05-07/gundam-iron-blooded-orphans-voice-actor-see-you-in-the-movie-version/.115794 Granted, there has been no movement on this for a whole year, but why would Mikazuki's Japanese VA hint that he'll be in the movie, unless Mikazuki isn't really dead, and was simply left for dead after Barbatos was beheaded by Julieta? Perhaps she really didn't feel like finishing the job, and he's really hiding somewhere... But it's a LOT more likely that we're talking compilation movie, and Mikazuki's Japanese VA has a few more scenes yet to be animated. Just for the record, the movie I REALLY wanna see in the IBO sub-franchise is the Calamity War. If we DO have a Season 3, it needs to be a full-on re-enactment of the Calamity War. Perhaps Akatsuki could grow up to pilot Bael?

It's Attack on Titan this week--but it's not season 2; it's all the way back to the beginning for Season 1! Kinda strange, but since they aired the first episode 4 years ago this week, they may be losing the rights. Even if so, doubt we'll see more than the first 5 episodes, or 10 episodes tops if we get a Friday night advance this week. -

There was no advance on Friday night for Space Dandy, which is really weird because there's probably no restriction on showing later episodes in the series. They probably were just lazy. We'll see if the stream changes tonight! -

Dragon Ball Super Episode 61 Discussion
OwlChemist81 replied to Meilag32's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Fair enough. Boy, this episode was on so early that I just now caught it on my DVR, finally seeing beyond the promo for the first time. At the time I was playing I was eating dinner at a Wendy's and there WAS a TV but the correspondents' dinner disaster with Michelle Wolf was on and I didn't necessarily had the pull to change the TV. Plus my smartphone was dead. But I digress. Zamasu is a monster, plain and simple. Of course, he and Cell, who the first time shifts were made to stop, would have gotten along. And yeah, that looks like some kind of new form that Future Trunks is able to achieve. Maybe it's like Super Saiyan 2, but with a small bit of divine energy compared to Goku's blue form that is overflowing with it? Whatever Rosé is, at least it made it easier to tell the difference between "good" Goku and "bad" Goku than just the earring on Goku Black Rosé! -

OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
You did that wrong. It's 50-fuckin'-1! Gundam IBO only ran for 50! But we can take solace in that 57 episodes of IBO actually aired on Toonami, if you count the Dort Arc marathon on Halloween weekend 2016. Add 22 episodes of Unicorn to that and that adds up to 79 episodes of Gundam on [as] Toonami. The number 79 also happens to be the atomic number for gold. Hence, Gundam is gold! But, I digress. I'm thinking a show that gets mid-blocked doesn't have much of a hope of getting a marathon anymore, unless it's Bebop. So chances are Black Clover will only run 51 episodes on Toonami, unless, heaven forbid, it gets a continuation. And if there is one, it better be a lot less hackneyed than this series! But that's the problem with Pierrot. They hit it out of the park with Bebop, Bleach, and the Naruto franchise, but everything else they animate is middling at best. -

FLCL: Progressive June 2nd at Midnight
OwlChemist81 replied to korosu's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
As Jotaro, who's been shoved down to 12:30 now, would say "Oh, Good Grief!" Last night's "behind the scenes" interviews vignette that aired during FLCL and Shippuden was really the first on-air confirmation we've had that FLCL Progressive WILL indeed air at Midnight. Lots of us were thinking there was no WAY FLCL Progressive, a show Williams Street themselves produced, would be at Midnight as the 4th show on the lineup, but it seems that's what they intend to do, and it speaks volumes about how popular they're assuming MHA is gonna be that they're using THAT as a lead-in. The question is, with DBZ KFC the new "lame duck" show, what replaces it at 11? There's probably a very small number of series that could air between the juggernauts that are Super and MHA and still hold a candle to them, but maybe that's not the point. Something lesser-known WOULD get a pretty good rub on both sides from those heavyweights! I'd say "AOTS3," but that won't be ready yet until AT LEAST 7/21. I guess moving Super back down to 11 is a possibility, but then you would apparently have to have a prime-time premiere outside of Toonami again--Yuck! It's also possible that MHA moves up to 11 after Episode 7 and an Independence Day "weekend" marathon on June 30, and something new moves into the 11:30 timeslot on 7/7 to lead-in to FLCL 2 episode 5. What they plan on doing with AOTS3 if they get it is then the next mystery. To replace FLCL Progressive at Midnight on 7/21 IF Toonami gets to air the dub before Japan even gets to air a subtitled edition would work, but I'd say more likely we just get a repeat of Progressive on 7/21-8/25 leading-in to Alternative on 9/9, and JoJo instead gets replaced once again by AOT in mid-August. -
Yeah, that's right. But it's different from Toonami's other recent tragedy, AgK, because lots of secondary characters lived on in the better world their sacrifice gained. That didn't happen in AgK, as Akame was pretty much a wandering samurai who moved on to a new town. Couldn't agree with this review more. It wasn't a "happy" ending, like JoJo Part 2, but it was a sublime ending, like Samurai Jack. Definitely the best ending of 2018 so far, but then again the bar is set ridiculously low because it's the ONLY ending so far in 2018, other than Lupin the 3rd Part 4 and Outlaw Star's non-endings. But DEFINITELY better than that! https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/mobile-suit-gundam-iron-blooded-orphans/episode-50/.114328 Rating: (What else?) A+!! LATER!!
