flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) Classic (Season 1) Discussion!!
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I have high hopes for these in the ratings--well, better than Black Clover, anyway! Maybe in the 700K range, low 800Ks at the highest. But I guess it shall be determined in a few hours! -

Classic!! Don't cha get it? 1: Classic Rock 2: Progressive Rock 3: Alternative Rock By this convention, maybe one day we'll get "FLCL 4: FLCL Hard"?? [highly doubt it] -
flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) Classic (Season 1) Discussion!!

I like that y'all are digging "Classic" as the first season's unofficial subtitle since it fits into the scheme of "_______ Rock" like the new seasons' subtitles "Progressive" and "Alternative!" Less than 6 hours now! -

That's an awesome pic, but does Kurapika actually make a rare cameo in this episode? I REALLY don't think him and Leorio would fare well against these Chimera Ants. I'm kinda glad they're not in this arc--Hisoka too... -
stream 2018 Weekly Streaming Archives
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Looks like Punchy remains the marathonning show, probably until Monday night. But I can't even with this stream. I wish we had something competent. -
I guess I could also see Space Dandy getting replaced by an HD remastered G Gundam in August. But I think the main reason Gundam IBO S2 hasn't done all that great is it was behind Black Clover. If G Gundam is after BC, that might hurt it except that its lead-in would be the venerable Shippuden, unless Shippuden were knocked down to 2:30, which I could ALSO see... G Gundam HD would certainly be "Right in the pocket", so to speak, but then again, so would almost any other Gundam except maybe Turn A...

Episode 32 "Set's Alessi, Part 1" While Joseph and Avdol had their hands full of Bastet's Mariah Bast's boobs, the mysterious Alessi was stalking Jotaro and Polnareff with the help of his stand Set! Is Polnareff sharp enough to cut through this? Their saga begins at midnight tomorrow (4/14/18) Only Toonami!!!

Get ready for the return of a ridiculous classic, at a ridiculous time: 11:30 PM! For the first time in HD with proper aspect ratio! Only Toonami!! And get ready for its triumphant return to the airwaves tonight by watching the official panel from C2E2, courtesy of, of all people, [as] ACTN's former competitor, Syfy! P.S., y'all want this thread to be just for episode 1 or the entire mini-season? Looks like the whole OVA is winning...

Alrighty then. I thought all of FUNimation was on VRV, but apparently that isn't the case. I may be cancelling my subscription and going back to FUNi NOW after all. I just can hardly stand their player. Although really, if I do it for the new season of Tokyo Ghoul, when there's a bunch of stuff I can watch on VRV outside of FUNi, that's admittedly a pretty stupid reason!
-
Is anyone out there watching Tokyo Ghoul or Tokyo Ghoul: Re via stream? It is quite WEIRD that it apparently isn't available on VRV subtitled or dubbed. A sweeping search for Tokyo Ghoul turns up...NOTHING, but maybe Tokyo Majin or Tokyo Ravens, but NO TOKYO GHOUL! What in the hell could be going on here!?!?

I would agree with you except that I have evidence to the contrary in the ratings. Sure, it isn't true with ALL shows with strong female protagonists, but I CAN objectively show that it WAS true with THESE shows with strong female protagonists (yes, I would classify Sinon and Kagome as "strong" leading ladies.) No, ecchi harem is a different animal. Yes, KLK and AgK! had elements of that, but it was more the fact that they're ass-kickers who are strong with swordplay.

The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
OwlChemist81 replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I could also see AOT S3 take FLCL Progressive's place on 7/14, and then with a week or two of filler before, FLCL Alternative take JoJo's place at Midnight. I'm going with probably no marathon on the 4th of July "weekend," whichever weekend that might be, but more likely 6/30 than 7/7 just because it makes more sense for FLCL Progressive to take a week off with 2 episodes left than 1 episode left. Kinda hoping if it DOES replace DBZKFC, it would be on 7/7. If they take the 6/30 marathon route, you wouldn't even need a "filler" then! I know you might think that's too soon, but it COULD happen! -

You sure about that? I thought it was 6/23, but you may be right! I would dig AOT S3 leading-into the final episode of FLCL, but I dunno about breaking up FLCL like that. I guess it COULD happen, but I would think it would be June 30th instead. I really don't know which weekend you would call "Fourth of July Weekend". I'm thinking no marathon, but I dunno. But of course, when AOT S3 comes, it has to go SOMEwhere! Could also dare to re-air the last 2 episodes of AOT S2 at 11, I guess... Also, Super declined in all demos from Family Guy this week: Family Guy (ADSM, 10:00 PM, 30 min.) – 1.151 million viewers (#25) – 0.73 HH (#24) – 0.51 A18-49 (#6) – 0.60 A18-34 (#1) – 0.45 A25-54 (#15) Dragon Ball Super (ADSM, 10:30 PM, 30 min.) – 1.042 million viewers (#29) – 0.66 HH (#28) – 0.48 A18-49 (#9) – 0.57 A18-34 (#2) – 0.43 A25-54 (#16) Still #2 for the night among ALL prime-time cable, so that's pretty damn good! -
I base a lot of that on the RATINGS in 2015. Of note was this particular report for the weekend of, lo and behold, 3 years ago this Wednesday: KILL la KILL and SAO 2 DOMINATED the F12-34 demo, and InuYasha went down from there but it was still #5 among Top 25 18-49 cable originals! THAT'S what I meant by "girly" Besides, KILL la KILL has its central conflict between female characters, so you could argue that it was female-oriented. And hell, later that year, they aired an actual Josei, a.k.a. "young woman" series, in Michiko & Hatchin, and look how well IT did! Emboldened by a lead-in of DBZ Kai and Akame ga KILL (another female-leaning series in the vein of KILL la KILL), its 1 AM airing of Episode 7 captured OVER 1.4 MILLION viewers! Virtually the only non-long running show that didn't have a distinct female appeal that was acquired or aired in the mainstay of 2015 was Parasyte. But how does this connect to the topic of the original thread? I'm thinking Toonami is looking to recapture that magic this year, and is likely to acquire a series with distinct feminine appeal for the 11 PM show to replace DBZ Kai Final Chapters. Then the 11 PM hour would become sort of a "ladies" hour, since FLCL Prog. and Alt., despite also containing elements which appeal to guys such as rock n' roll guitars, giant robots, and panty shots, will have mostly female main characters. I don't know enough about Re:Zero to know if that would fit the bill, but if it's anything like SAO, it might!

I think JoJo is ambiguously homoerotic enough as it is. And there IS a little homoerotic subtext (no, not "buttsex", but that is a pretty funny anagram of "subtext!") at times between Mikazuki and Orga, even though the former at this point is pretty much a baby-makin' pimp daddy! 2015 will go down in Toonami's history as the "girly" year. A weird decision like that would make 2018 the "gay" year! I do believe FLCL will make things kinda "girly" again later this year, though. Not so much FLCL Classic, but as the new seasons have female protags, they're likely to bring in female viewers. It does remain to be seen if they're "strong" protags, though HaruHaru Haruko is the "recurring" foil in all 3!
