  1. Look at it from the standpoint of the creators. The streaming sites can only offer streaming. Adult Swim/Toonami could offer at least one run of every episode on linear TV (at least two if a dub is produced), plus limited streaming and VOD. If they would just expand their streaming offerings a little to cover a whole cour at a time, they could probably give the big streaming sites a run for their money. The only obstacle to getting in on the "same week as Japan" model most of the big streaming sites boasted was that [as] would not air subtitled anime. Now, after this year's April Fool's stunt, I daresay as long as we're talking only about same-week simulcasts, that may no longer be the case. The sneak preview of FLCL Alternative may actually have been more than that--like the original [as] Toonami stunt six years prior, it may have been a pilot as well. Now I wouldn't be spouting this nonsense if I didn't have a show in mind. That show is none other than Sword Art Online: Alicization. Of course, it would be desired for it to be aired back-to-back with another same-week simulcast from the Fall season that would not be simuldubbed, maybe in the 2 AM hour, but I digress. Perhaps they could even yank the proverbial rug from under Hulu's feet in terms of SAO. If the Gun Gale Alternative dub would be ready by then, it could make for a really interesting back-to-back combo!

Both are 11th place out of 13 for 2018. The whole night's average was 449K total viewers and 270K adults 18-49. For a special event with little to no advance announcement, that's really not that bad. 3. Now that you mention it, I guess I COULD see Boruto in the lead slot, directly followed by Shippuden! Wouldn't be that different from what we have right now with Super and Kai. Of course that would mean a boost for Shippuden that would equal the Ascent of Alucard (3 hours earlier)!
  4. Wow, that's utterly preposterous! I could see BORUTO take DBS's spot, but Shippuden would be insane! Also, this really isn't too shabby: Adult Swim switched up some of its late-night line-up, which performed as follows: DRAGON BALL at 0.44/0.40 compared to last week’s 0.45/0.37, BLACK CLOVER up 0.03 to 0.30, FOOLY COOLY at 0.24, MIND GAME at 0.18, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE down 0.06 to 0.15, HUNTER X HUNTER down 0.06 to 0.16/326K, NARUTO down 0.08 to 0.16/305K, SPACE DANDY down 0.06 to 0.16/319K, COWBOY BEBOP at 0.16/300K compared to last week’s 0.22/0.20, and GHOST IN THE SHELL down 0.05 to 0.14/287K. I daresay Subtitles Night was a success! We've certainly seen lower! This just might be the fuel Toonami needs to try airing same-week-as-Japan subtitled simulcasts in the later hours, perhaps starting in October!
  5. Edited because for some crazy reason following an outage last night, the stream is STILL showing Sam Cham #6-#10. So yay, you have more chances to witness Samurai shouting in thick New York accents over hip-hop beats!
  6. Tenchi Muyo! GXP premiered on November 10, 2012, at 12:30, replacing Casshern Sins. Episode 4 began its decay to 1 AM when Naruto came in on December 1, then Thundercats (which was pretty much red-hot for the time) was boosted to its peak position of 1 AM on December 15, and THAT'S WHEN GXP fell to 3 AM with Episode 6. Funny you should mention that, because if you'll remember the lineup on 1/31/15, DBZ Kai was at 11:30, followed by Shippuden at Midnight (yes, it WAS actually that early at one time), followed by InuYasha: The Final Act at 12:30, and then One Piece at 1. The following week, 2/7/15, One Piece had been demoted to 2:30, DOWN 3 slots. Flash forward to today. Black Clover just aired its last time at 11:30 last week, and this week it starts at 1, ALSO DOWN 3 slots! So, in a very real way, it DID get the One Piece treatment! Good thing it won't last 2 more years to be cancelled! Just out of curiosity, how DID you get your "Archivist" title, because mine should TOTALLY be "Historian!"
  7. Next year, 4/1 falls on a Monday, which means the gag would be on Sunday night after Midnight. I'm totally expecting The Disaster Artist, followed by The Room, which means it probably won't happen. It would be totally cool if some action-related sneak peek were to air at 8 PM that Monday, but I doubt we'll see that.
  8. Yeah, 381K was the average from 12:30-2:45 AM. Still down about 89K from that time period last week. We can also calculate that the total viewers average from 12:30-3 AM was roughly (9*381K+324K)/10, or 375.3K. That's down about 68K from the average for that time period this year.

JoJo didn't, but it aired at 2:45 AM, so cut it some slack! Everything LOOKS kinda rough since the NCAA Championship game skewed the scale more than usual. But even so, there's still a slight green tinge to key demos of the Dragon Balls, Black Clover, FLCL Alternative, and even Mind Game! Unfortunately, Mind Game didn't fare quite as well, as most people who wanted to see it probably already have, and that's a shame and may give Toonami pause when considering airing a movie in the future. Then again, this potentially established a relationship with gkids, who currently hold the keys to the beloved Ghibli Miyazaki films, which would indubitably do better in the ratings than a subtitled airing of Mind Game! So they may still bring back Month of Movies 3 with a Month of Miyazaki this December; we just never really know... Note that for total viewers and 18-49, Mind Game is being compared against the average of the ratings from 12:30-3 AM on March 24th, with each half-hour from 12:30 AM-2:30 AM weighted double. Since that information is unavailable for 18-34, it's compared to just Gundam IBO, so that -0.01 looks like it's not a bad drop on first glance but it's actually quite generous since ratings rose considerably after Gundam. I'm not showing Subtitled JoJo on my week-to-week comparison, but trust me, at only 324K and 0.15 in 18-49, it was obviously way down--94K and 0.07 in 18-49 from Dandy and Bebop the week before to be exact. Mind Game retained about as well as Black Clover; still, that's saying something when a 30 minute show fails to hold about as much interest as a 2+ hour movie; that's why starting this week, Clover has been demoted to 1 AM, making a Naruto-esque mini-block out of it, Hunter x Hunter, and Shippuden. I'd say this is a good move, with DBZ Kai ending soon. Asta's proven he just didn't have what it took to hang with the Dragon Balls, but here comes HaruHaru Haruko in 2 weeks!
  10. Yeah, I'm the one who asked if there was new music from The Pillows in the sneak premiere and got the "yes" answer!!
  11. Generally, I agree! It doesn't matter as much when most of the gags are visual though...
  12. Wait, you're right. But they didn't make it all the way through that one so I forgot about it! It did make it as long as Space Dandy before that got relegated to 12:30 to welcome Attack on Titan. That also is a strike against simply encoring Progressive and Alternative at 11:30. But when it's not the first show on the block, it probably matters less. Besides, if FLCL Alternative would be at Midnight instead of 11:30, JoJo ends too early.
  13. Yeah. I'll admit I gave it "no chance in hell", but yes, it is. This is the first time they've rerun a series in the same timeslot right after it finished in a long LONG time. But it's 3 AM so who cares? Then again, I can see this happening with FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative later this year as well. But I really wouldn't have a problem with that either. I believe from 4/14 onward, FLCL is going to lock down the 11:30 PM timeslot for most of the rest of the year save for holiday marathons: 4/14-5/19 FLCL Classic; 6/2-7/7 FLCL Progressive Premiere; 7/14-8/18 FLCL Progressive Encore; 9/8-10/13 FLCL Alternative Premiere; 10/20, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1, 12/8 FLCL Alternative Encore. Yes, that leaves 8/25 (so we MIGHT have an Independence Day "weekend" marathon on 6/30 or 7/7 after all) and 12/15, but I guess they could always fall back on TIEs or other one-offs. HOWEVER, I kinda hope they DON'T do that. FLCL Alternative aired at Midnight on 4/1, so that might be a clue. It occurs to me it would make sense for Attack on Titan Season 3 to replace FLCL Progressive, and for FLCL Alternative to replace JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. That actually seems to work out fine assuming we will have marathons on Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Weekend, and Labor Day Weekend...well, almost. There's still one more week that would need a "filler". Maybe they would actually dare to re-air the subtitled version? Doubt that though. But assuming that schedule issue could be worked out, it would make a lot more sense to have FLCL Progressive marathon on Labor Day weekend, and FLCL Alternative marathon on Halloween weekend, perhaps with movies afterward to fill out the time. For Toonami to air a dub of Mind Game if it ever gets one would be mindblowing, and then of course the Cowboy Bebop movie would be perfect for Halloween weekend!
  14. It is honestly interesting to see how mochi micro-analyzes a crappy series in a vacuum like this... Well, maybe not in a "vacuum", since Jman chimes in every 2-3 posts...
  15. At least we get to see their dubs this week! Damn, that JoJo episode is hilarious!!
  16. I could see Space Dandy being replaced by 2014's Terror In Resonance too. But I REALLY hope they don't air Kids On The Slope, though that timeslot would also be perfect for it. Their Watanaboner knows no bounds now that they're not just limited to action shows. Mixing in a little suspense or drama into the block wouldn't hurt at that late hour!
  17. Yeah, all they say is that's the schedule for the next 2 weeks. No reason to believe that it will be any different for the following 2 weeks either, but with Gundam IBO ending on 4/28 we can expect a new show on 5/5. You just barely beat me posting this snazzy version: *FLCL Season 1 replaces Countdown/Scavengers on 4/14. The stream is down right now, so no telling right now whether or not the past week's Champloo return on the stream was merely a flash in the pan or not. They may continue it with Episodes #11-#15 this week, and I hope they do, but it's clear that it's not replacing Bebop. Speaking of Champloo, I'm really hoping FLCL 1 pulls a Champloo and manages to hold DBZ Kai's ratings better than Black Clover. That show was unapologetically making JoJo and Gundam look like crap, and they deserve better. What's funny is 3 years ago FLCL and JoJo Egypt Arc back-to-back would have been a dream lineup; let's see if it can still have the magic touch 3 years later!
  18. Heads up: the Ratings Report tomorrow is gonna be a hot mess! But since Toonami was a hot mess last week, you'd already expected that, right?? Here's my prediction for what we'll see from whom... CABLE ORIGINALS (ShowBuzzDaily; TVByTheNumbers): 10:30 Dragon Ball Super 11 PM DBZ Kai Final Chapters 11:30 Black Clover 12 AM FLCL Alternative 12:30 Mind Game 2:45 JoJos' Bizarre Adventure EVERYTHING ELSE (SBD Update; ProgrammingInsider): 3:15 Hunter x Hunter 3:45 Shippuden 4:15 Space Dandy 4:45 Cowboy Bebop 5:15 GITS 2nd Gig 5:45 Scavengers
  19. FLCL S2 not only could, it SHOULD air reruns outside of Toonami! If you ask me, it will probably get a treatment similar to Samurai Jack, but maybe not that much oversaturation. I don't see it getting a weeknight rerun, for example, but I DO see it getting an 8 PM rerun the next week!
  20. The fate of that timeslot, however, has been confirmed. It will hold FLCL S1 from April 14 through May 19, take a break (most likely) for the May 26th Memorial Day Weekend, then return to showing FLCL, this time with "Progressive" Season 2, on June 2. Meanwhile no clue what is happening to Black Clover. I assume it is continuing but simply moving its timeslot.
  21. What the hell is going on!? I guess that corroborates the April 14th schedule. Guess a lot of shows are moving down. Either that, or Black Clover is falling all the way from 11:30 to 1:30? Also, gotta be a new show in May replacing Gundam IBO. EDIT: WAAAAAAAAAAIT A MINUTE... I actually believe Toonami is expanding again to accommodate FLCL. It only makes sense this time! I believe the plan is to re-air Season 1 at 11:30, then re-air it TWICE on Memorial Day weekend, with LOTS of exclusive sneak peeks of FLCL 2! Only way that happens is if Toonami runs for 6 hours so all 6 episodes can be shown TWICE (and it might be fun if subtitled the 2nd time). So that would give us: 10 PM DBS/DBZK Power Hour 11 PM Black Clover 11:30 4/7 Countdown/Scavengers; 4/14 FLCL S1 12 AM JJBA:SC 12:30 Gundam IBO; 5/5 New Show TBD 1 AM Hunter x Hunter 1:30 Shippuden 2 AM Space Dandy 2:30 Bebop x2 or TBD 3:30 GITS 2nd Gig Then again, it could stay as it is with Black Clover moving down, then expand to 10 PM on 5/28...
  22. And apparently a woman after my own heart if you invoke THAT femme fatale! Well, except for the smoking part. I wasn't so keen on that from Integra! So tonight a Toonami promo aired for Countdown/Scavengers at 11:30 PM. Anyone know if that's legit, or just a silly April Fool's joke? It aired right before the hour-long "Bushworld" Aussie Rick & Morty stunt.
  23. We got "Bushworld Adventures", which is like Badly Drawn Australian Rick & Morty!
  24. What the hell is going on!? At about 9:57 PM tonight before the REALLY BIZARRE badly-drawn Rick & Morty hour stunt, [as] aired a Toonami bump that suggested Countdown and Scavengers will re-air this week at 11:30. What the hell was that? Was that just an April Fool's Day prank or was it for real?
  25. Damn, we're like zombies at this point. I think I'm going to bed now. Good night everyone!
