  1. Since it got left behind on the previous page, I think it was appropriate. On THAT note...
  2. SBD Updated: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-4-14-2018.html "Adult Swim’s late-night line-up performed as follows: DRAGON BALL at 0.47/0.34 compared to last week’s 0.48/0.40, FOOLY COOLY at 0.27/607K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE down 0.03 to 0.23, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM down 0.06 to 0.20, BLACK CLOVER down 0.04 to 0.18, HUNTER X HUNTER down 0.04 to 0.18/347K, NARUTO down 0.04 to 0.17/334K, SPACE DANDY down 0.01 to 0.17/352K, COWBOY BEBOP down 0.03 to 0.16/341K, and GHOST IN THE SHELL down 0.03 to 0.16/326K." The rest of the night couldn't get out of the 300Ks, but at least it didn't get any worse than that. However, the average was a mere 489K, 15th so far for 2018, i.e.: DEAD LAST. And here are the retention figures for total viewers... 4/14/18 - Total Viewers Show Viewers Retention DBS 1,020,000 N/A DBZKFC 793,000 77.7% FLCL 607,000 76.5% JoJo 489,000 80.6% Gundam 410,000 83.8% BClover 361,000 88.0% HxH 347,000 96.1% Shippuden 334,000 96.3% Dandy 352,000 105.4% Bebop 341,000 96.9% GITS 326,000 95.6% Dandy actually ended up retaining far better than any other show! And it turns out FLCL retained slightly worse than DBZKFC, though JoJo retained slightly better. We'll see how well everything retained in 18-49 a little later on, but here's what we know for now... 4/14/18 - Adults 18-49 Show Viewers Retention DBS 0.47 DBZKFC 0.34 72.34% FLCL 0.27 79.41% JoJo 0.23 85.19% Gundam 0.20 86.96% BClover 0.18 90.00% HxH 0.18 100.00% Shippuden 0.17 94.44% Dandy 0.17 100.00% Bebop 0.16 94.12% GITS 0.16 100.00% I think sometimes the best boon for the block will be when DBZ Kai ends, and it's crazy to think about that since it WAS responsible for the highest-rated episode yet on the block 3 years ago. But it's clear DBS needs to lead-in to SOMETHING fresh in the 2nd half of 2018!
  3. NEW STREAMING SHOW ALERT: It's Shippuden Filler meow. (Yes, THAT episode, plus a wonderful 2-part saga involving Naruto, Jiraiya, and some giant mollusks, plus Kakashi's kunoichi lover...)
  4. These aren't the true retention numbers for JoJo; that's what that asterisk means. The true retention will be how many viewers it retained from FLCL, which was a rerun, so we don't know that yet. But that retention for what was SUPPOSED to be a hyped episode of DBZ Kai in 18-34 is indeed horrible. 67.8%, when the JoJo an hour later still had 75% of its 18-34 viewers! And those numbers won't be updated, since we'll never know how well FLCL did in 18-34.
  5. Well, it's Tuesday, and we've got a new set of ratings! Brace yourselves, because these are pretty awful, even by today's standards: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-4-14-2018.html 51 WATTERS WORLD FOX NEWS CHANNEL 8:00 PM 60 0.18 1,983 52 BLACK CLOVER ADULT SWIM 1:00 AM 30 0.18 361 I think it's pretty obvious some people just flipped over to Dragon Ball Super between two NBA Playoffs games on ESPN. How else can you explain the precipitous decline between DBS and DBZKFC that's WAY worse than usual? Unfortunately, it seems that pattern will continue next week. It COULD be that FLCL is some sort of sacrificial lamb during the early part of the playoffs season, because later on FLCL Progressive won't be up against Finals games, since they occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Everything else pretty much sucked big hairy ding dong. As for retention: Total Viewers Show People Retention DBS 1,020,000 N/A DBZKFC 793,000 77.75% JoJo 489,000 61.66%* Gundam 410,000 83.84% Bclover 361,000 88.05% Adults 18-34 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.59 401,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.40 272,000 67.80% JoJo 0.30 204,000 75.00%* Gundam 0.24 163,000 80.00% Adults 18-49 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.47 603,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.34 436,000 72.34% JoJo 0.23 295,000 67.65%* Gundam 0.20 256,000 86.96% Bclover 0.18 231,000 90.00% Adults 18-49 Show Rank Change DBS #7 -3 DBZKFC #9 -4 JoJo #20 -4 Gundam #39 -20 Bclover #52 -22 *Calculated by dividing the 12:30 slot number by the 11:30 slot number; i.e.: not a "pure" back-to-back retention percentage. Boy oh boy. What the hell happened with 18-34?? The drop from DBZKFC to JoJo was over a whole hour, but somehow DBS to DBZKFC did even worse than that! Not the case with total viewers and 18-49: The drop from DBZKFC to JoJo was worse, as expected, but DBZKai still retained pretty badly. Once the 2nd through 4th shows bled viewers, Gundam and Black Clover actually retained pretty well. And of course everything dropped in the rankings, though Black Clover may be the crap pace-setter, as it has fallen from #15 on March 31st to #52 just 2 weeks later! Guess that's what being on an hour and a half later does for ya. That's all for now, until SBD updates a little later on this afternoon!
  6. Y'all digging it?
  7. Knight's & Magic, despite ridiculously incorrect punctuation, would probably be the "isekai" runner-up to Re:Zero. We certainly wouldn't be missing mecha. I gave it a try but ultimately ended up dropping it.
  8. It wasn't having an outage at 7 PM every Monday night that might not have been corrected until the next morning. That's at least slightly more competent than what we had before! But at least it seems it's done now, and One-Punch Man continues to stream, making it officially the longest-streaming show on the Marathon stream yet. All previous shows have lasted for a week or less (in the September 2015-February 2018 era, 4 days). But it looks like OPM will be the marathonning show for 8 days or more!
  9. What the hell did I just spend 6 minutes 20 seconds watching!? This might be the only game in which it's better for the hero to get knocked unconscious (not dead, and sometimes revived enough to preform the "deed") than to clear the game, except that you get tired of seeing the hero have more sex than you... ...but I'm SURE some couples have played a sex game while playing this game...
  10. Could also be June 2nd when/if we lose GITS. That means that, barring an Independence Day marathon, the first 9 episodes would air on TV before the DVD/BD release of the first 13. Gundam Wing I'm picking to replace Space Dandy in August, but at 3 AM? Hmmmm...
  11. Ah, very well. So 2199 and 2202 have great production values (think Gundam Unicorn) because they were first released theatrically in Japan! I can dig it. These need to be on Toonami. Re:Zero would be a great show to lead into Black Clover, but otherwise, not so much.
  12. We haven't had a true Isekai on the block since SAO II ended in September 2015--unless you count Children Who Chase Lost Voices. I don't see how anything that's been on since then can really be considered Isekai. Black Clover fails because it only has one world where magic is everything, not the "other" world!
  13. You mean this?? https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=18939 This is a Unicorn-style edit of theatrical movies. But then again, so was 2199, to be fair. And they wouldn't be dub premieres, so I'm still sticking with the 2:30 AM slot, at least at first.
  14. Also, face the facts: it IS an older show. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=13776 Vintage: 2012-04-06 (Episode 1 preview broadcast on Family Gekijo) 2013-04-07 (TV Broadcast) There's no way this belongs before Black Clover, a show that despite coming from an upstart rather than a beloved franchise, is still only 2 months and change behind its Japanese premieres, when otherwise its availability is almost exactly the same (dub streaming on FUNi NOW and VRV). But playing after dub premieres of Hunter x Hunter, a show from around the same time frame? Yeah, I can see that! But on the subject of Re:Zero, THIS just got posted less than an hour ago: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-04-16/re-zero-anime-english-dubbed-trailer-streamed/.130459 Notice it mentions home video, but fails to mention streaming or TV...things that make you go "hmmm..."
  15. Oh. I haven't even heard of that. Def only room for one Isekai on Toonami at a time...
  16. I guess by "smartphone anime" you mean "Pop Team Epic???" Don't blame ya there! Well what do you know? I would say that might be the #2 contender for the 12:30 PM slot; though it's not a dub premiere, it WOULD work out so that you can watch the whole thing before the DVD release, if there is no Independence Day marathon. I think it's a lot more likely to take GITS place indirectly and premiere at 2:30 AM, however, since it is a considerably older show. And yes, Shippuden still ahead of it, because Star Blazers->Shippuden->Space Dandy is mood and setting whiplash! Blazers->Dandy->Bebop would make a great spacey "closer" combo!
  17. Part of the reason I'm tempted is so I can read half of his posts without getting spoiled.
  18. The hell?! I didn't know that! That brings the first half status quo numbers down to 3.76 and 34%. If we get a dub premiere on 5/5, that shoots it up to 4.08 and 36.9%. BTW, note the corrections I made for 2017. Somehow I failed to take into account that DBS premiered at 8 PM or 8:30 PM for most of 2017, which means that most of the Toonami airings were technically RERUNS despite the fact that Toonami aired topicals for them, and that completely changed the complexion of my argument! But thanks for your watchful eye. Now I'm tempted to watch Gundam IBO #49 and #50 ahead just to see how all this ends, though!
  19. How in the hell could I forget about Samurai Jack Season 5? Though technically speaking it was a WORLD premiere, not a dub premiere. But I also made one OTHER HUGE error: DBS was only a dub premiere on Toonami, strictly speaking, on July 22 and the first 3 weeks of December, since it got prime-time sneak premieres at 8 PM or 8:30 PM for most of the year. Also taking into account a small error I made regarding DBZKFC's last dub premiere (first DVD set came out 4/25/17), that makes the true breakdown for 2017 as follows: Jan 7-Mar 4: DBZKFC; HxH (2 total) Mar 11-Apr 15 (excluding Apr 1): Jack; DBZKFC; HxH (1 world, 2 dub, 3 total)Apr 22 only: Jack; DBZKFC; AoTS2; HxH (1 world, 3 dub, 4 total) Apr 29-May 20: Jack; AoTS2; HxH (1 world, 2 dub, 3 total) Jun 3-Jun 10: AoTS2; HxH (2 total)Jun 17-Jul 15: AoTS2; HxH; Lupin (3 total) Jul 22: DBS; AoTS2; HxH; Lupin (4 total)Jul 29-Aug 12: HxH; Lupin (2 total)Aug 19-Sep 30: JoJoSC; HxH; Lupin (3 total)Oct 7-Nov 18: JoJoSC; Gundam IBO; HxH; Lupin (4 total) Oct 7-Dec 16: DBS; JoJoSC; Gundam IBO; HxH; Lupin (5 total) The average number of dub or world premieres for normal weeks in 2017 was 2.97. So far, through the first 4 months of 2018, that average is 4.06, MUCH higher. What happens from there depends whether or not we get another dub premiere to replace Gundam IBO. With one like Re:Zero joining the block, the average for the first half of 2018 shoots up to 4.24. Without it, it falls to 3.92, STILL almost a full show ahead of last year. It is also important to note that percentage-wise, 3 dub premieres in 2018 is lower than in 2017, since this year the block is usually 11 shows long. So even without Re:Zero or another dub premiere joining the block on May 5, the first half percentage would be 35.4%, which is still quite a bit higher than 32.5%. So in conclusion, the next show on the block wouldn't really NEED to be a dub premiere, theoretically.
  20. Possibly the funniest thing about the JoJo bath scene was that Carrie Keranen was voicing the woman who was bathing lil' Polnareff, who was voiced by Erica Mendez, who most of us recognize as Gon, got her start on Toonami as Ryuko on KILL la KILL! Of course, Carrie voiced Satsuki, so it was like a KILL la KILL leads reunion out of nowhere! And over on Hunter x Hunter, I should have known having Zach Aguilar (Genos from One-Punch Man) voice Colt was telegraphing something, since he seems to be leading the rebellion against the newly born king, who is voiced by none other than Max Mittelman, Saitama from One-Punch Man! This of course makes perfect sense, since the king can knock almost anyone out with ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH--or should I say "SLAAAAAAP" of his mighty tail! And maybe THIS is why Pop Team Epic couldn't air on Toonami yet, because it would have spoiled Orga's death? But I REALLY don't want PTE replacing IBO.
  21. Exactly. Therefore, as I'm most psyched for Re:Zero, I think I would be most surprised if it turned out to be anything BESIDES Re:Zero. As much as I dig having Space Dandy back on the block, I can't state enough how great it would have been to have had a dub premiere of Darling in the Franxx on the block beginning that week, and maybe THEN Black Clover should have been knocked down to 1 AM? But more likely than not, they weren't even looking at Franxx yet, and that mystery show that was to replace Lupin is none other than Re:Zero!
  22. Hmm, that ALSO seems to point to a probable Re:Zero premiere on Toonami on May 5th at 12:30! The question is: since I believe the first episode is an hour long, if they've got an AoTS2-ish deal going on, where it has to air on Toonami a day or two before it streams, then maybe Black Clover will get pre-empted that night? Also, with the first set of episodes coming out mid-June, and that set containing episodes 1-12, at least it would be a dub premiere until FLCL 2 hits, and then once that's over, we'd likely have AOT S3, so that would keep the 4-or-more train rolling! Finally, as much hate as y'all wanna give Boruto, at least that would be a dub premiere, as probably would Naruto Shippuden as well once it passes a certain point. Don't think we'll get there this year or even next year though!
  23. That certainly gives the advantage to Re:Zero, then. We currently have 4 dub premieres on the block (DBS, JoJo: SC, Gundam IBO, and HxH). When we lose Gundam IBO, we need another dub premiere. Most of the other shows that people are throwing out there (Star Blazers, MHA, Pop Team Epic) would NOT be dub premieres. I think that matters. JoJo replaced AOT S2; that was also a dub premiere (and a "simul-dub" at that.) Gundam IBO replaced Tokyo Ghoul, which was NOT a dub premiere, but at the time we also had Lupin, which WAS a dub premiere. (So in 4th Quarter 2017 we actually had 5 dub premieres.) Here are the number of dub premieres we had in each stage of 2017: Jan 7-Apr 15: DBS; DBZKai; HxH (3 total) Apr 22-Jun 10: DBS; AoTS2; HxH (3 total) Jun 17-Jul 22: DBS; AoTS2; HxH; Lupin (4 total) Jul 29-Aug 12: DBS; HxH; Lupin (3 total) Aug 19-Sep 30: DBS; JoJo: SC; HxH; Lupin (4 total) Oct 7-Dec 16: DBS; JoJo: SC; Gundam IBO; HxH; Lupin (5 total) It turns out that in at least half of 2017, we only had 3 dub premieres. Of course, in January, we lost Lupin, which was replaced by a rerun (Space Dandy), and now this May 5 we lose Gundam IBO. Could it be replaced by a non-dub premiere? With FLCL S2 and hopefully AoTS3 coming, sure! Even though we haven't been down to 3 dub premieres in over 6 months, at least the former of those is the rarest type of premiere: a WORLD premiere! And, there is a chance that Re:Zero would only be a dub premiere for part of its run on Toonami (rumors are that a DVD/BD release may be coming early summer), but even so, at least it would be until those two shows impact the block! It is also remarkable to note that 2017 is the first year we actually had at least 3 dub premieres on the block during all non-marathon weeks. In both 2015 and 2016, there were numerous times the number of dub premieres was only 2. So we certainly COULD go back to 3 in 2018, but I kinda doubt we will! It seems that the bar has been raised to 4 or more--at least I hope!
  24. Yes, Alternative. His character was even in the sneak peek, though of course not voiced by him yet!
