Well, folks, I'm not expecting anything for Halloween weekend since we saw absolutely NOTHING new on Toonami save for that weird music video which aired at 3 AM, but we DO finally have a number for Batman: The Long Halloween, Part 2: 0.06/144K at 2:30am So there you have it. It clearly was disqualified accidentally for some reason (perhaps they thought it was a repeat of Part 1, as cable stations are sometimes wont to repeat movies in back-to-back timeslots on the same night). Had it been classified correctly, it would have landed between #66 and #76.

Interesting. Most people seemed to be stoked for it and then were underwhelmed by the series' (or at least season's) rather bizarre and unsubtle ending.

2 episodes of this marathon left. And though I dozed quite a bit through it, I've actually been home for it, when I could have been out Halloweening if not for not being used to the cold yet.

I'm here, I guess? Episode 2: An Inherited Journey

MAL is a bunch of elitist snobs. I follow ANN. Yashahime is only about 1500 below Fena there, which actually has pretty good reviews. (2.5☆+)

I will admit that the ending wasn't necessarily very subtle, and that took away from the show somewhat. The prognostication that Fena would have to choose between "Blue Water and Storm Clouds" was something I expected to play out on the way to Eden, not when she actually got there. And the amnesia twist somehow made sense to me despite the glaring lack of subtlety. There is almost no doubt in the viewer's mind that despite her love for Yukimaru shining a light, Fena has chosen storm clouds, and that could play out in Season 2. Even if it wasn't necessarily a ratings hit, I feel that this show has a decent shot at an Emmy nomination like Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal, and if it wins would happen as Toonami's first co-pro Emmy on their 25th Anniversary!

I'm sorry, I'm actually kind of excited about the Double MHA and the return of Yashahime now that it FINALLY has a semi-coherent plot. Food Wars I can take or leave, and maybe because they spam it I'm into Shippuden more than usual, too. Yes, I am a little underwhelmed that Fena sheepishly takes the 2:30 timeslot knocking Toonami back to 5 premiere slots. Who wouldn't be? But I feel that the shorts block will sort of make up for that if it contains new content and not just Rick & Morty shorts. I could see Cosmo Samurai and the Iron Maiden videos ending up replaying there too. Plus, my DVR recordings of the first 2 episodes of Fena screwed up, and now I know that if I can't get home in time for them All Hallows Eve Eve and if they screw up again, then I have a THIRD chance to capture them, something we didn't get with the FLCL sequels in 2018. November 20th will be the true test to see if Toonami is stuck in a holding pattern with new anime acquisitions until the end of the year. If they sheepishly move up 1-2:30 AM to 12:30-2 AM and then throw on MHA Season 5 reruns at 2 AM, THEN I might be worried.

I don't get what you're saying by "nothing" exciting in this update. If you ask me, this is PLENTY exciting, although the excitement level is down considerably from the Batman movies.

I kinda hope Toonami airs Season 1 again before Season 2. Maybe this time uncut for time as a marathon on January 1st, but if not, one of the late night slots would do fine. They DID say HBO Max would get exclusivity for the first 60 days, right? If that's the case, then a January 8th Toonami premiere would seem to make sense to me. Air it and Blade Runner: Black Lotus back-to-back in the Midnight hour to REALLY piss off the 2D animation purists! 🤣

It's probably not going to be a total surprise, but debuting the new 12:30 show promo halfway through the Blade Runner premiere sounds like a pretty good stratagem to me. No, Daos, the only MHA premieres that are airing for the foreseeable future is that hour from 12-1 AM on 11/6, and the following week that is replaced by Blade Runner: Black Lotus, but otherwise I'm expecting the lineup to be the same with the exception of course of the bonus hour. Why don't you go back to torturing Lufia's ancestors or something?

Batman: The Long Halloween was anything BUT predictable and disappointing, even if you could argue the ratings may have been. But strictly in terms of something I wanted to see, Fena and the Bat-Movies were all great. Well, except for Under The Red Hood, which I STILL haven't seen all the way through.

I'm probably gonna be at a party on 11/13. Might TRY to get them to watch the premiere of Blade Runner Black Lotus, Yashahime, and MAAAAAAYBE Food Wars, but they WILL have live music and that usually kills Toonami possibilities.

Or perhaps replays of Iron Maiden videos. It would be interesting if we got a Halloween-themed one buried among the Fenas this weekend, and then they replayed the entire trilogy in the bonus hour. So, I'm thinking Midnight Run Special Edition 2021, just at 3 AM. Another possibility is the original Blade Runner Black Out 2022 short as somewhat of a primer for Black Lotus.

That was...strangely intriguing! Sure to be better than that crappy Death Note remake, at least!

Well, it happened. We FINALLY had a Toonami block that was all network premiere animation released in the current calendar year (2021)! That's a bit better than Batman Ninja did last week in total viewers but worse in Adults 18-49. Still, it didn't receive as much of a windfall from Fena's penultimate episode as Long Halloween did from the finale. As for Long Halloween Part 2, who knows? It doesn't even appear in the Top 150, but it's difficult to imagine it doing much worse than Part 1 since it followed it. More likely than not, it just accidentally wasn't considered a network premiere for some reason like Black Clover was treated last year. Hopefully we'll find out how it did later today! Also, if you look at the spoiler tag, you'll notice that this time the 12-34 Female category outrated the 12-34 Male category by almost 2:1. For whatever reason, ladies have been somewhat fickle with Fena. And unfortunately since the Bat missed the Top 50, I guess we'll never know if this girl power carried over to Catwoman's somewhat surprising heroine-ism in The Long Halloween.

That would make sense! Actually, this ending was foreshadowed in the first episode. The "blue water" she could have chosen was the bio-ark floating around in an empty sea. Instead she chose to be with Yukimaru--and therefore "storm clouds". Those storm clouds will probably begin to take effect in Season 2.
