  1. the high yesterday was only like 80. and we got rained out anyways, so oh well. did get to meet with the contractor and finalize design on the stage enclosure, so that's good. he might get started next week if i can get the concrete finished up.
  2. leaving work in 2 minutes. breaking for about an hour, then going back up to the beer garden to do concrete work for one more agonizing evening.
  3. a horsefly's wings are not significantly longer than its thorax. a cicada's wings are.
  4. the kids like to hold the mantis...es...manti...too. we get a lot of tiny ones on the plants in the summer, like 1/2" long. sometimes we'll get a big brown one. they're pretty cool. the one in that picture was the mantis of fertility. it hung out on our back porch with us all evening while we got plastered on red wine sangria. i got the wife knocked up later that night, shortly after we had given up on trying for almost 2 years.
  5. but what about this cute little guy? he was such a cute little guy.
  6. traditionally speaking, "many" is a number greater than zero. didn't know if you knew that.
  7. i don't know if they have the ability to bite. they never bit me in all my years.
  8. they leave their shells all over the place around here. sometimes we'll find a live one hanging out on a tree or in the grass. the boys like to pick them up and let 'em crawl around on their hands.
  9. it was a cicada. fucking deal with it.
  10. they can be any color, basically. and they change colors as they age.
  11. not brown, btw

pig feet and chicken feet too, yes. really the only feet i'm ok with belong to pets and baby humans. but anyone over age 6, nope.

  17. damn. chili and cornbread.
  18. that's right, you mentioned that last night. looks like it should move thru a little faster today. good luck.
  19. where tf are you that it's raining again? storms have moved on, at least everywhere around here.
  20. every now and again i look forward to a rosie palmer.
  21. i never have the food problem anymore. but i keep mine high & tight these days, so that's probably why.
  22. lol, we made a shitload of beer in the spring of '16 because it was still pretty new to us at the time and we had more time to devote to it. along with the oatmeal stout, we discovered some black ipa, nut brown ale, and bourbon barrel porter. the ipa was not good anymore (no surprise) but everything else was still decent.
  23. we just found a 6-pack of a homebrew oatmeal stout that we made 2.5 years ago. it got buried under some other stuff and we forgot all about it til sunday. it was deeelicious.
  24. you can get into homebrewing for as little as $100 for the basic equipment, and 5-gallon ingredient kits start at around $25-30. but it gets expensive fast, as you upgrade components and start making more complex styles. there's a great book out there to intro yourself to homebrewing, called "how to brew" by john palmer. dude is like, one of the pioneers of modern homebrewing and he does a great job of explaining the science and process.
