I'm not sure why the YouTube upload of it I watched had the episode looped, with the second copy lacking sound. I wanted to uncover the mystery of whether it was an extended version, and sadly, it ain't.

Don't feel too bad Hasegawa. Sure you wet yourself, but Kagura didn't judge you...much...and you managed to sum up the plot to Gintoki in under 30 seconds!

:D

E5zsFD6.png

Pretty good episode. Poor Ofusa, she had a pretty rough life. As it turns out that Nizou was no joke. Luckily, Gintoki was just that much better:

yFbfkwk.png

His entrance was pretty badass, and he had a coupla funny one liners...though I already forget one. :D I'm not sure that the humanizing of the grandfather really worked for me too well. After being a total bastard for 2 episodes, beating Ofusa and telling her to have an abortion. I couldn't really bring myself to feel any sympathy towards him. But I guess that was the "nicest" conclusion we coulda gotten all things considered. Gintoki's relationship with Baby Beel, which yes was all I ever thought of the child even though this came first, was far more effective. :)

So, in the last couple episodes Hitomi has gotten jealous over Toshi possibly being with another woman, Miss Asatani. In this episode the shoe is on the other foot. When Toshi sees Hitomi leaving a fancy French restaurant with a handsome stranger he immediately jumps to the most obvious and logical conclusion: She's been kidnapped! And he's right! Because of course he is!

:D

lkThny5.png

Okay, to be fair it was established just seconds before that three beautiful young women had gone missing, but still! :D That's an impressive amount of trust he has in her that the thought of her possibly cheating on him never even enters his mind. As we've seen, I'm not sure Hitomi would pass the same test. :D Either way Toshi enters badass detective mode again this episode:

2Sa1Lgj.png

Meanwhile the psychopath who kidnapped Hitomi reminds me of the guy Fujiko married in that one Lupin Part II episode. Except this guy hasn't killed his victims...yet.

W5a8ehd.png

Ai and Rui are the ones who do most of the work saving Hitomi of course, but Toshi does help in his own ways.

spGOuxx.png

A Slide Projector, in case you forgot it was the 80s. :D

hsAzJD1.png

I love how quickly and nonchalantly Rui gasses the bastard too. :D And it was nice of her and Ai to let Toshi actually recover the unconscious Hitomi. Even if he did get there without their help and they used the chance to sneak away with the painting they were after. And Ai was good enough to let Hitomi know how hard Toshi worked to save her giving us this adorable shot:

2PIw5TO.png

Aaand we end on another kiss fake-out. Oh well, sleep well Toshi...you earned it. :)

We meet Tatsumi, the female firefighter this time and she's quite the looker:

0yBBB4N.png

Gintoki might not be the arsonist she's after, but his crimes are just as severe: throwing away old Jumps! The monster! Kagura's actions are totally justified:

DSLHnmM.png

Anyway Tatsumi's relationship with her adoptive father was our central focus. The soap bubble metaphor for the erratic and fleeting nature of life was on point. Tatsumi had a hard life no doubt, but at least she had plenty of joy too:

OHTnAEd.png

And ultimately she gained some acceptance from and insight into her father. Gintoki, there's no denying it, you are the man. :)

Cat's Eye 53

This was probably the most tragic episode of the series so far. I can't recall all the previous episodes to know for sure, but it was a very poignant and personal episode for Hitomi either way. Teaming up with Mac, a random sailor, to help find his girlfriend and a lost gem. Seeing Cathy deceive, use and ultimately murder poor Mac for effectively the thrill of it understandably riled Hitomi up.

AjrG4QC.png

Even without the show pointing it out explicitly, which it did, the parallel between Cathy's relationship with Mac and Hitomi's own with Toshi certainly must have left her unsettled.

X6F88e2.png

Of course, we know Hitomi's not like that, that she does love Toshi, but it's a reminder of that fine line she walks. And brings up interesting questions like the validity of Rui's claim that episodes like this where they help Toshi catch criminals somehow make up for all the items they've stolen on his watch. And of course what the end game of Hitomi's relationship with him really is and how it'll play out. But that's saved for another time. By the end of this one only this is certain: Mac is dead, and he died blissfully unaware that his love was nothing more than a lie...tragic indeed.

Awwww, how nice, a visit from mother:

Wyowa5y.png

Sadaharu certainly seems happy to see her but...wait a minute...they don't have mothers! Living anyway! Well, family or not Gintoki won't let those disrespectful punks have their way:

r6sIesb.png

And it turns out her real son works at a host club. Geez it's been a looong time since I've seen one of those in a series. Well, Kagura seems right at home anyway:

LKoH9bA.png

All seems to be going well despite mother and son being unable to recognize each other. That is until...an underling for one of the four devas of Kabuki District appears to wreck up the joint! Katsuo eh? You know, despite meeting one of them in that gambling episode I completely forgot the devas were even a concept of this series, had to look it up. :D Well anyway, with the mother confronting him, it's up to Gintoki, Kagura(looking far too natural might I add :D) and Shinpachi to summon their inner host powers and save the day. Can they succeed?

Cat's Eye 54

Second episode in a row where a woman manipulates a man into doing her bidding. Of course, with the Chief involved this one wasn't ever gonna have as nearly as tragic of an ending.

ScrS41b.png

Poor Toshi, running around ragged due to the Chief's libido. Nice garbage can disguise. :D

7KGPzhF.png

At least he and Asatani had a cute little moment together at the Chief's expense:

0yJ49DY.png

Not to say that woman wasn't as bad as last episode's, she was. Cruelly using the chief and another man like that. Looking down on them as expendable little insects...literally!

B03vIwu.png

In the end though that was her undoing, as Cat's Eye exposed her to her pawn who shot down her helicopter, presumably killing her. Well he shared a better fate than Mac I suppose. So too did the Chief, blissfully unaware anything happened...and still alive.

cxMt3lT.png

Makes me wonder though...is the Chief married? They said he had a family but...I guess that might just mean a child or something? He's gotta be what? Mid 50s? I honestly can't recall if previous episodes were more specific regarding that. The potentially cheating bastard. :D Also not sure why the girls returned all the stolen gems including the one they were after only to then announce their intention to steal it. Honor among thieves or something? I dunno. :D Also, Hitomi begging Rui to hold off on stealing that gem earlier in the episode to avoid making the police look too bad because of the other thefts taking place because of that woman seemed sweet at first...but not really. :D

Well for an episode that originally aired on Mother's Day focusing on a mother Kagura beating her up made for a lovely visual.

:D

nme1IUM.png

Gintoki got into the action too, with his trusted Dom Peri:

G7TSk4Z.png

I had a feeling Hachiro was the pretty boy all along, but afro guy being transgender/transvestite/whatever? Well, I shared this reaction:

H66H0gw.png

Regardless, fairly sweet and tearful pumpkin-fueled resolution between mother and child. But who was the real best-mom this time?

OmsFsmS.png

That fourth and final Deva remains a mystery. He appeared, but not his face. And he loves Otose? Hmmm...anywho, holy fuck! I totally forgot Otsu existed! :D And she leads the Shinsengumi now? Oh boy. :D

It was great to see the sisters again.  It's too bad they ran into Rei

while he was with Kyouko.  Momo was right.  Kyouko is a witch.

Way too much Kyouko this episode.  I would have ratted on her in a heartbeat.

It's too bad she ate his food.  She should have gone back home to her dad.  She's so ungrateful too.

I don't think there's anything likeable about her.  If I had my way, I'd send her to tsundere island where they can menace each other.

Okay so this is the episode that made me tear up over friggin chopsticks. It was just such a motherly thing to remember how her son ate, and the son breaking down in tears while eating really got to me. I totally forgot this was a two-parter and will double check in the future if I comment.

The last time I saw a Comiket-themed episode featuring Yuuki Kuawahara, it was a bit more normal, but also not as exciting... or perverted. More Lucoa antics could have improved upon that, really.

Also, I felt like I saw a random cosplayer doing Crunchyroll-Hime. :D

So this time Ai, Rui, and Hitomi must split up to gain passwords that unlock a computer with plans for transporting a statue they're after. Their targets are:

AapCQgr.png

The Chief

SZmauK3.png

Miss Asatani

69AhVcj.png

and Toshi, respectively.

I'm of two minds on this episode. Taken as a one-off it works rather well. There's an interconnected comedic energy that isn't present in every episode that's very fun. Certainly on Ai and Rui's side anyway. A comedy of errors of sorts. Making for a livelier feeling episode than usual. We also get confirmation on two key things: the Chief IS married and thus a scumbag after last episode, and also:

winfIos.png

Holy crap! In addition to WacDonald's and other random burger joints the actual McDonald's exists in Cat's Eye! :D Miss Asatani's sweet potato addiction was also a pleasantly adorable little discovery. :D

My problem, once again, concerns Hitomi's exploiting of Toshi. Clearly the episode isn't meant to be viewed this way but you know...it DOES end with Hitomi driving away with her sisters laughing while leaving her future husband covered in tear gas being attacked by dobermans...love, right? :D Ah well, I guess I'll ignore it. :D At least her embarrassed face while the whole police department watched Toshi try and kiss her as well as her insistence that she was his first love were sweet scenes.

So the Shinsengumi hire Otsu as leader for a day to help boost their reputation:

9ytj1Mn.png

But I hafta wonder...why? I mean, it's not like they're known to frighten children:

zSnkzFD.png

Or for easily letting their leader get kidnapped by terrorists:

far5VUE.png

Oh what's that? They are? Nevermind then. :D Well, at least they got her back:

iF0th5D.png

Also, man was I rooting for Hijikata to murder Okita. :D He's just so annoying! :D That aquamarine haired headphones guy in the ending theme appeared at the end and seems to know Otsu. More on that later I assume. So next time another character I forgot entirely returns, Sakamoto. And apparently he's an old war buddy of Gintoki's? Interesting but uh...in the meantime...can somebody get Kagura a trough? :D

This episode involves Fumiya, a new transfer student to Ai's class. The two immediately get off on the wrong foot when this happens:

FiyiVfu.png

It turns out Fumiya's late father spent all his wealth on a violin Cat's Eye covets. When confronted with the moral quandary of leaving the boy penniless if they steal it here's their response:

1btRN7Y.png

At least at first. Luckily, Ai has a change of heart and starts to like him. Unluckily, he's kidnapped by Jason Voorhees:

vucIksj.png

Not to worry though, they save him. He figures out their identities no problem and we learn his dad knew theirs so they can have the violin afterall while he leaves like the one-off character he is:

Xtw4phu.png

I didn't really like this one much honestly. That whole ending had my eyes rolling at mach speed. Waaaay too convenient, and about as tacky as Fumiya's 80s Bill Cosby sweater. And coupled with yet another assassination of Toshi's character:

XG0EtGI.png

It just wasn't that great imo. As far as similar Ai plots go that episode in the 20s I think where she clashed with Rui over stealing another boy she liked's locket or watch or whatever it was was vastly superior. Ah well, at least the last image was pretty:
