They sell beaters, now.  Five year battery and you can knock the Hell out of it for fifteen years before it finally quits.  Better than using any of your decent watches in some tasks.

Is that the watch you were getting fixed?

About six months, which is three times what it should take to find a job.

Did you not pay rent? On what planet does $3k last 6 months

Unless that shit was 30 years ago and maybe not even then 😬

I guess we aren't counting the stealing...

And the BJs.

Bro is independently wealthy with no marketable skills, a pension on a 30k a year salary and a stfu settlement from a job that hated him. Can you not clearly see he's a financial genius....the evidence is right there.

Like I said, the room rental was sixty five per week, which was all a minimum wage guy could afford back then.  You know who always lost out during layoffs?  People who got paid minimum wage and rented places that cost three quarters of their take home pay.

The same planet with a jewelry/tobacco shop.

Idiot... that's a pawn shop with a tobacco license.  What do you think the loupe and gram scale are for?

Also, room rental was still cheap in some houses, back in the 80's.  Mine was only sixty five bucks per week.

Sorry, the same planet where you can pawn your grandmother's wedding ring to buy smokes.

And I don't care nor did I ever ask how much a room was.

Well, you couldn't figure out how $3k could stretch for six months.  The cheap rent was part of it.

My grandmother's ring is in her coffin.

Uh oh, grandpa forgot his meds and is confusing people again.

Nope.  You're agreeing with other people that such budgeting isn't possible.  Ergo, you can't figure it out.

No, no, I didn't. I was suggesting an area with a jewelry(pawn)/tobacco shop would be the exact type of place you could find cheap housing. And I wouldn't be surprised if you actively sought out such a place.

I know you just assume you're always correct, but that's not always, or even usually, the case.

So, your answer is word salad.

You referred to "such a place" as a foreign planet.

Calling some place a "foreign planet" is a humorous way of saying how out of the norm it is for the average person.

I understand it's difficult to sense that when your "funny" responses involve references to Nucky Johnson, whoever that is, and other people who haven't been relevant in decades, if they ever were.

And no, I don't want to know who that is, so don't bother.

I'm surprised you never heard the name of that mafia kingpin.

Wasn't the point of that "$3k lasts 6 months" claiming to be relevant to TODAY, not some 40 odd years ago?

I didn't say it was relevant today.    You need to save up about $10k when you want it to stretch six months now.  It's doable, even on a low wage.
