ben0119 Posted Sunday at 04:25 AM Posted Sunday at 04:25 AM Ah, so the Blue Exorcist canon story does indeed go in a completely direction haha. Doesn't look much less generic than season 1, but should be less stupid and nonsensical at least. Of course, can only take so much from a short promo. Quote

DangerMouse Posted Sunday at 04:32 AM Posted Sunday at 04:32 AM They were ready to kill themselves afterward too. 1 Quote
ben0119 Posted Sunday at 04:35 AM Posted Sunday at 04:35 AM Also the crazy cult that committed mass suicide over that comet. Though the flames are more like the Branch Davidians, though they weren't planning to kill themselves, of course. Yep, Billy has lost it. Naga has lost it too! Did those clowns really deserve rescuing though? Well, Billy was responsible actually, but he's already dead. 1 Quote

Hmm, I don't think it looks any more or less generic than most other big shonen and, especially at the time, I thought it was pretty unique for being as "modern day" as it was too, considering this was before recent stuff like MHA, Mob, etc. Edited Sunday at 04:51 AM by DangerMouse Quote

The main villain is the literal Devil, so it doesn't get much more badass than that, right? And it started out that way, then we find out it's just yet another show about a fucking school lmao. I don't know, maybe the original Toonami promos made it seem darker and more badass than it actually was haha. Then the filler started it and made it even more silly. Now here for this season 2 teaser, we see the bad guys are trying to revive some ancient big bad (who isn't the Devil apparently.) Doesn't exactly sound earth shattering, but again, it's better than turning The Devil into a Twilight character. 😄 1 Quote
Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted Sunday at 05:05 AM Posted Sunday at 05:05 AM Since there's no other new stuff on tonight, I went back and rewatched the episode a bit, cuz it seemed to have a couple of weird coincidences to me. First they just happen to find a clue that leads them to Elaina's old home, and then they just so happen to arrive right before they're going to have the "holy festival" where they're all going to kill themselves off. It would make sense if they knew about hapna and figured they were going to die soon anyway, but given how they're cut off from the outside world seems there's no way any of them would have taken it. I suppose it's possible though that maybe Skinner still had some type of control over the AI and decided to have it order them to die so they wouldn't escape his plan to kill people off. As to Elaina... Have they mentioned how old she is? Probably a stretch, but she mentioned she didn't know who her father was, so... could it be Skinner? She'd have to be fifteen, so I dunno. I was thinking she was a bit older than that. 1 Quote

Yeah, since the promos would have focused on the stuff in the first two eps before the school it did give a tease early on of a more "next-level shonen" vibe. I do think it's still a little "edgier" thanks to those first couple of episodes and the more modern touches of the setting but yeah, it's never gotten back to as dark as that once they get to the school. Yeah, I still expect some silliness, but hopefully it'll re-find it's footing once season 2 gets going, since there were some cool bits to season 1 before things went full anime-only. I expect it'll be a little disorienting in the beginning since it was so long between seasons and there was not really a smooth transition point, when you think about it, the story is still just getting started since only a little over half of season 1 actually happened. Yeah, it was the whole school thing and how light-hearted, silly, and well, generic, it got after that. Funny enough, the the school setting of MHA was considered a detriment to it by many people when that series first started, but that show ultimately did get darker, though may have gotten bogged down in some ways. That is true. It's really weird how that whole first Blue Exorcist season happened. The anime adapts what is barely the set up to the world and introduction of characters (maybe some could say it took too long to do this) and before the show can get off its feet, it's into filler divirgence. Yeah there was a long gap in the original production release, but at least we got the first season replayed here, so it's fresh in our minds. 1 Quote

I honestly can't say the story for this series is too gripping for me. 😄 Quote
