I didn’t even know the movie, The Blob (2nd worst movie ever) was actually a genetically created ball of yeast that decided nonstop, rapid growth was just the thing its species needed to survive.

well....which blob. the original or the remake? because both were awfully good  b movies...even though i don't think they were supposed to be b movies.

introduced the spousal unit and offspring to 'killer clowns from outer space' neither had seen it, and the boy loved it.

just saw that tubi has a kick ass selection of cult classics and b 'movies.

one of my favorite really is 'plan 9 from outer space'.  one that really freaks me out *there's a story*  is 'squirm'

one that also got to me 'C.H.U.D.'

and finally, one that i'm not sure if is a cult or b, but 'the howling'

i honestly have so many favorites.

I do too. I can’t remember the name of the movie but it was these slugs that would infect people and then the infected spat them into another and so on. I like b horror

This was when Fox was just starting to dip their toe into Saturday Morning Cartoons

I miss Saturday Morning Cartoons but I guess streaming and cable makes it unnecessary anymore

idek if they have after school cartoons in network television anymore

There's nothing really stoping you from streaming cartoons yourself on Saturday mornings or weekdays. You just gotta make the committed

I mean not to put an end to anybody's doom scrolling but scientists have had the capability for a while...

The first synthetic life form was a bacterium created in 2010 by scientists at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI). The bacterium, called JCVI-syn1.0, had a synthetic genome.

https://www.jcvi.org/

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3878377/#:~:text=In 2010%2C staff at the, scientists may well do so.

One of the limiting factors if you ask me is that THEY are human. Hell you can even factor AI into the mix but it learns off OUR knowledge,

and starts to get AI down syndrome if somebody doesn't mommy it. :LithiumSmileyIndifferent:

Interesting post just saying that we are still a Far Cry from Cyberpunk if that's what you're hoping for. :LithiumSmileyLaugh:

I am still reading though can it survive outside a lab? I'm sure the science has to be interesting and groundbreaking

but that article is sooo barebones...

jcvi link doesn't link to the actual project like I thought but here's the data

A major hurdle confirmed that the synthetic yeast was able to efficiently metabolize glycerol under elevated temperatures. This involved painstaking genetic debugging, employing CRISPR and other gene-editing instruments to pinpoint and fix the problems.   ~~ my article

It is doubtful whether it was aptly characterised as such, given that only the genome and none of the cytoplasmic structures were synthesised by scientists ~~ yours.

yes artificial life was in fact viewed in 2010 however, as stated, that none of  cytoplasmic structure was synthesised by scientists.

I watched killer tomatoes the movie semi recently (within the last 8 years) and it was just as campy trashy as it was back then. Honestly didn't expect it to hold up that well

So in other words it's just the latest science fair winner for geneticists.
